Yes they are using a WordPress ratings plugin because that’s all they need. A BuddyPress user IS a WordPress user. BuddyPress just makes it easier to make WP content more social. a lot of WP plugins work with BP like the ratings plugin. Your expecting BuddyPress to be exactly what YOU want OOTB. It should only give you building blocks to achieve your goal and it does. The reason I showed you Tasty Kitchen is that its a perfect example of they had a site that users added posts(recipes) with ratings. Nothing new here WordPress gives you this through various plugins. They then used BuddyPress to aggregate user content and allow user relationships.
Yes, the default of BuddyPress is to show the common social network but you don’t have to go that route. Look at the Tasty Kitchen site as an example. The authors post recipes and they use BuddyPress to manage the user profile and connect ratings and such.
the button is hidden until you click inside the textarea. JavaScript is used to show button. Are you using the BP-default theme?
In reply to: Mobile siteAfter 1.7 is out and I get back to mobile dev I’ll create mobile wap template for BuddyPress that should work on feature phones.
In reply to: Mobile siteYour device may not work with certain mobilized themes or plugins. Most mobile options require a WebKit based browser.
Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean it can’t be done. You can create all the functionality you want by extending BuddyPress. BuddyPress should not obtain a position that its a be all. It should have a core that helps someone to extend functionality. It would be very easy if it’s not already a plugin to have a like feature for WP content.
In my opinion, Buddypress should be a social network that connects authors, readers, and every creation in between.
You can have this. you just have to tweak BuddyPress to accomplish this.
The BP plugins in the WP repo do have that warning it just doesn’t show here. The dates are listed on plugins when they are last updated. This should be sufficient enough for you to make a decision on its validity.
In reply to: Social Theme Question?BuddyPress 1.7 is coming soon and will work on any WordPress theme. If you are not in a hurry you might want to choose a responsive WordPress theme

In reply to: Post Update button, Activities DisappearTemplate pack CSS is probably not updated to current BP.
oops wrong function. This will add a sub nav under profile called Page. I don;t think you can change the slug for this item for different pages. What you would want is /page/name-of-page/
In BuddyPress the part after /page/ would be considered an action variable. So you could do a looopy of some sorts to get the action and match it up to a page.
Example code to read the variable and then you could display an appropriate page. if you visit /page/2/ it will echo the string. action variables are anything after an action. page is the action so anything in between slashes = variable and they are stored in an array.
if you had this in the url:
page/2/3/4/the variables can be accessed like this:
$bp->action_variables[0] = 2
$bp->action_variables[1] = 3
$bp->action_variables[3] = 4`function bp_page_nav(){
global $bp;$user_domain = bp_displayed_user_domain() ? bp_displayed_user_domain() : bp_loggedin_user_domain();
$profile_link = trailingslashit( $user_domain . $bp->profile->slug );
bp_core_new_subnav_item( array(
‘name’ => ‘Page’,
‘slug’ => ‘page’,
‘parent_url’ => $profile_link,
‘parent_slug’ => $bp->profile->slug,
‘screen_function’ => ‘page_screen’,
‘position’ => 20) );
}
add_action(‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘bp_page_nav’, 10 );function page_screen(){
global $bp;add_action( ‘bp_template_content’, ‘bp_page_screen_content’ );
bp_core_load_template( apply_filters( ‘bp_core_template_plugin’, ‘members/single/plugins’ ) );
}function bp_page_screen_content(){
global $bp;$variable = $bp->action_variables[0];
if( $variable == ‘2’ ){
echo ‘page 2’;
}}
`Go to codex above and find the page for members loop. You can pass an argument to show newest members.

In reply to: Change Blogs to Network in MenuWhat theme are you using?
In reply to: global.js 3.4.2 .on is not a functionDid you by chance load your own jquery? Sometimes plugins block WP and load their own jquery. .on works if you are using the right version of jquery loaded from WordPress
Use
`$bp->bp_options_nav = ’30’;
$bp->bp_options_nav = false;`People will chime in but anything recommended by WordPress should be good. Just remember BuddyPress has more overhead in displaying content and will use more resources.
In reply to: 1.7 theme definedBuddyPress 1.7 will use page.php and override the_content() to display BP content. Think in terms of page template hierarchy in WP. single.php gets overridden by single-{post type}.php
You can then just create the custom template parts and style it however you want. BP will have base files and styles to make it work with most themes. When 1.7 gets closer to release I’ll blog a bit about how to customize.

In reply to: Re-naming and re-ordering tabs.you can use this plugin as well https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-extended-settings/
In reply to: Mobile siteOk, are you using the BuddyPress template pack to add the required template files? BuddyPress won’t work with Twenty Eleven without a little work.
In reply to: Mobile siteBuddy mobile will work with 1.6. But that doesn’t explain pages not showing. What plugins or theme are you using?
In reply to: Post Update button, Activities DisappearIt’s not BP menus so its fine to post here. Update topic title to reflect the real issue, post button.
In reply to: Custom profile fields issueFields are hidden on a profile until a user edits their profile and adds something to that field.
In reply to: Post Update button, Activities DisappearBP menus does nothing that would interact with the submit button. Deactivate all plugins and revert to bp default theme to test each plugin.
