In reply to: Buddypress child theme creating problems
I’m seeing twenty ten not the default theme. Also, I haven’t updated . They may be out of whack with recent version of BP and WP.
In reply to: “Reply” box AJAX problem with child themeI mean changing the id or class in your html. Javascript attaches to these and if you change it it could break the ajax.
In reply to: “Reply” box AJAX problem with child themeDid you change any of the id’s or classes in the html?

but it was for the old BP
In reply to: Goodreads IntegrationIn reply to: WordPress theme vs BuddyPress themeDon’t use template pack. That’s a quick fix to get WP users without theming skills using BP. For the long run you are better using a child theme as a start. Upgrades are easy this way too.
The main problem is you can’t do find and replace all. It breaks the file. You have to hit next over and over and search manually. Very time consuming when you want to just change one word.
A reason I’m wanting an easier fix is for theming. Say you are developing a theme for sports teams. You would want the user of that theme to change groups to teams. They are not going to edit a po file. ‘Groups’ in my opinion is too generic anymore for social networks. The network is the ‘group’. Unless you are trying to do a facebook type site then ‘groups’ will work but for niche sites it’s too generic.
In reply to: Sign in / Registry button on the top barDo you have ‘anyone can register’ checked in your admin >> general settings?
Ok @boonebgorges , I’m new to po files. Why are the strings in the language file not in order. Anything related to groups is all over the file. Could they be made in a way that anything with group be placed together?
In reply to: template tag for child theme javascript?include( TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/custom.js’ );
Not sure if that’s what you were asking for but if you are creating a site for your self its better on a server to not use php to call this file and just hard code the direct link.
@wpsec That wont work because the word groups is spread over the site. Your suggestion would only change the nav title. You would want every last instance of the word group to be something else.
In reply to: Simple editor for BP?Doesn’t the forums extra plugin allow this?
Language file should be used for translations not changing the actual wording on a site. po-edit does not make it easy. It takes me about 2-3 hours to change the title group to something else and I’ve had to do this 3 times now. You can’t simply do a find replace all you have to go through each and every one manually and this word is used a bunch of times. I tried find and replace all and then the site broke.
In reply to: Introducing JobBoardrCurious, you say a theme but it’s the default. Is there a custom theme?
[edit] saw you have it coming
the other fix is to change the function in the BP functions file. You’d have to keep track of that change on upgrades to BP. I still think you can remove it via remove_action.
@r-a-y can you help at all?
Why not just remove the code directly from the template file?
remove_action( ‘bp_get_displayed_user_nav’ );
Should be that to remove an action.

In reply to: Default Activity Streams Are Backwards IMHOhow to do it was mentioned on here. I just ended up canning the main activity stream on the site I was building.
That CSS only includes basic WP styles. I think the ‘bp’ is just coincidence.
In reply to: Default Activity Streams Are Backwards IMHOMoving the ‘All Members’ tab to end?
In reply to: Job board using buddypress ?Yes, BP works with almost any theme. You’d have to do some adjustments though.
Most themes are
header
content
sidebar
footerThe content area on a regular WP theme has the loop that shows you blog posts. BP can fit inside the content of almost any theme. It’s like extra pages with a loop for BP stuff instead of blog posts.
So to make BP work on another theme you have to match the content divs. If the theme you want to use has a content div like this.
div id=”myContent” >
div id=”padding” >Then on the BP page HTML you have to make the content divs match. The BP content structure might look like this.
div id=”content” >
div class=”padder” >So you’d need to change it to match the the theme.
In reply to: Buddypress.org’s New Plugin Review FunctionalityI’ve been playing with post types and groups with some fun results.
