Is that a Buddypress site?! Perfect plugin. where to get it?

Makes no sense and is preventing the community from pushing forward!

@dan77 that code doesn’t seem to work anymore. It gives the following error:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /site/wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:50) in /site/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 881

Is this the page you mean: http://www.enterprisenation.com/become-member/

Is something that can be easily implemented if outlined in a tutorial? Or made into a plugin? I’m sorry to hijack this thread btw, but since spam is obviously a major issue with Buddypress, if sites like the ones you create have found a way around it, you could be helping tons of people if you share, in detail, the way you did this. Or you could at least make a ton of money if you sold it in plugin form.

I, too, am curious how custom post types come into play here. Does Buddypress itself use custom post types for activity or groups at all?

    Ah, got it. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Would you be able to go into further detail about what you mean by alternative sign-up page?

Just curious, what percentage of those members would you consider spam accounts?

Edit: Presumably a ton since there are 75,000 members but only around 5k Facebook likes and under 10k Twitter followers. Or is your renamed login page and captcha helping immensely?

But if you do this, then the home page will display only the members avatar and a logout button when they are logged in, right? Would there be a way to have a login/register on the homepage for members who are not signed in? But then when they are signed in they would see the activity stream when they go to the homepage?

@Tina but isn’t it interesting that they supposedly have so many people keeping an eye open for spammers but so many important posts go unanswered. LOL I’m calling BS on that one. A completely unused Buddypress site is having new registrations and posts on average of every 5 minutes and sometimes less. But yet this site is virtually spam free. What’s the secret? Why can’t Akismet block the Buddypress spam?

Site looks great! Now you just need more users on it. That’s the hard part.

Good luck. I’ve been trying to get tags added for over a year now. I’ve come back to beg some more since I’ve come to realize that tags are desperately needed to make the activity feeds worthwhile (see: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/tags-in-activity-feed-posts/).

Are you basically looking to have a type of user generated content and not necessarily activity feed? If so, try ucanpost plugin (which wont have all the options you need) or gravity forms.

What kinds of site is it meant to be?

@tina have you ever wondered why they can’t get Akismet to block the spammers like it does on WordPress? And even more thought provoking is how does this site block spammers so well but none of us regular users can manage a normal BP install without being overtaken by spam? After all the hard work to get BP looking nice, it’s a waste due to issues like this. :(

I’m not alone with this: http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/add-tag-and-category-to-status-updates

But it shouldn’t be a plugin when P2 already has this ability built in…

That is a great looking site and looks pretty active. Did you pay for the theme? Also I want to ask how you are faring with the use of Groups and a Forum. Are users figuring out the differences between them? And are you getting any spam?

Along with tags for status updates, having the ability to select a group to post in from a dropdown box would be useful too.

Which leads to another thought. BP is too confusing. Groups, Activity Feed, Forum, etc. It doesn’t have to be so convoluted. This is why 9.9/10 BP sites are unsuccessful. It’s exciting to build it at first, only to realize that users don’t have a pleasant experience navigating the mess (and spam) and never return. Why not build the platform around the Activity Feed and Groups?

What I can’t understand is how all the big time Buddypress sites don’t have the same heavy spam that little, unkown sites are experiencing. This site for example. Where’s the spam? Or testbp.org, where oh where is the spammmmm?! They are obviously doing something to block it. But what’s the secret, and why is it a secret??

Nice to see that the official Buddypress site is having a huge problem with spam as well. Congrats.

    Where did the site go?

    @neononcon

Thanks. What about using groups and forums together? What’s the point of that?

So you go to a group and see a bunch of status updates, then you see a button for the forum which goes to a bunch of forum posts. All are presumably under the same overall topic. It just seems so confusing and all over the place.

Best buddypress site ever seen! Now I will give up. Thanks.

Get rid of the popup bubble over content. It’s not showing anything just keeps recycling. Put some sort of background color on latest-update in the profile page.

Thanks for not answering any of the questions about groups and forums. You guys just turned up the suck and turned down the good of this thread haha.

@etivite thanks for the reply, but all I see is “status, topics, posts, comments, userblogs” but not time since active, followers, updates, forum posts like the BuddyPress.org site. Do I have the wrong plugin?
