In reply to: Search for user role
@shanebp
I was wrong, it’s not a 404, but a “cannot find any user”. However, @henrywright-1 – your idea would also be my favourite solution – but I’m not a coder.
Someone out there who can give me a hint (function)? In reply to: Search for user roleSpam did not solve my problem, no.
You can setup a network and use bp-multinetwork (free plugin – search wordpress.org). So you have the possibility to setup two different bp-networks with one common userbase. To hide things from logged out users there are a few plugins available (search buddypress.org).

I don’t think you have to explain someone why you do or don’t do things. As Buddypress is Open Source and as long as people do things for free, I’ll appreciate their work. I don’t think that the guy who developed a paid version of the plugin you do for free has to starve or die because of your work – maybe he has to think about some more advanced functions – so, I would be glad to get a free version of your plugin!Greetings,
noizeburgerMaybe, this could be a first hint regarding your question:
found this on Brajesh Singh’s site buddydev.comIn reply to: Buddypress Profile privacy for non-friends@jsigned
The same for me. Found solutions that worked until bp 1.2.10 but not on 1.5.
Made the changes from cnorris23 – it’s working. Sadly, these changes will be blown away with the next update and have to be done again – hope, this solution work then at least. In reply to: Member Area ProblemsI’ve tried to register on your site – got an email with the activation-link, but none with my login credentials. Not sure, Janrain Engage works fully with BP. Login via Twitter also does not work.
In reply to: Member Area ProblemsBuddyPress 1.0-RC1? Sure? Not 1.2.8? Is your theme the standard-wp-theme? If so, you need to install bp-template-pack or search with google, there is an adapted twentyten for buddypress out there.
In reply to: Member Area ProblemsSome information about your system: which wp-version, which bp-version, plugins?
Had the same problems on a multisite installation. Didn’t try deactivation of the bp-theme. In my case I just overwrote the buddypress plugin and then made my modifications.
In reply to: 2 Different Member Types On Different Member PagesMaybe you can use this as a starting point: http://cleverness.org/2010/08/08/add-user-types-to-wordpress-and-buddypress/
In reply to: how to echo a custom fieldIn case, the above solution does not work, I found another: http://blogcastor.com/extend/codex/how-to-display-buddypress-profile-field-data/
In reply to: how to echo a custom fieldDoes it work?
In reply to: 2 profile types and 2 “members” pagesPS: you can see it in action right here: http://www.minemusig.at/thenaughtydaughters/ -> go to “Profiltyp”, it’s a selectfield you have to check on registration and also works as a “role-selector”, too (if you want to know how, I can help). If you click on “Band” it shows you all other profiles of that type.
In reply to: 2 profile types and 2 “members” pagesIf your users fill or check a field “Band” or something else, the easiest way to show them on one page, seems to be a search link: http://www.mydomain.com/members/?s=Band where Band is the name of the used field.
In reply to: BuddyPress Competition is heating upI’ve been working with Joomla for years (2004 – 2009), especially with community builder and also took a look at JomSocial, which isn’t that bad – but you have to pay for. There has always been discussions about SEO and security. Most annoying thing is, that more and more components and modules have to be paid – support isn’t always that good as you would expect. Buddypress lacks a few standard features Jomsocial or Communitybuilder has, but the community here is very active and helpful, so most of my needs get fulfilled. Only alternative to WP/BP: Drupal – but that takes a long time to understand (for me) if you’re not a programmer.
In reply to: 2 profile types and 2 “members” pagesDo you mean two different memberlists?
In reply to: Best free chat plugin? It’s beta but hopefully gets updated regularly: http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-chat/
In reply to: how to echo a custom fieldYou can find the code (think, that’s what you’re looking for)
“in your bp-theme (if using default bp-theme it can be found in /members/single/member-header.php.
Maybe this helps! In reply to: how to echo a custom fieldis it a profilefield?
Have you tested the solution I’ve mentioned? Just for your interest: I set up a naked wp 3.1. (single) with buddypress 1.2.8, BuddyPress xProfiles ACL, Capability Manager and WP Roles at Registration – works like a charm and requires no coding by hand.
PS: I often think about switching to single installation of wp, your combination of plugins would be the only one working, as described by the author of the stuff in my links. So I don’t have to think about switching again.
Maybe you should try this solution: works for wp3.1 multisite, also there are hints when working with single-site. I have it working on my multisite (but with the old code example).
The first link shows you how to make a selection for roles at signup: http://cleverness.org/2011/01/27/updated-buddypress-user-roles-code/
The second link is for the setup of which profilegroups (fieldgroups) are shown on certain roles: http://cleverness.org/2010/10/13/user-types-in-buddypress-assign-xprofile-groups/Give it a try, it works for me.
