In reply to: PLUGIN REQUEST: Forum Ads
after the first post within a forum topic?
In reply to: Buddypress needs to STOP supporting bbPressI just wanted to mention this is a proof of concept for the most part (as in the activity stream as blog comments i did)… if @andy and @mrmaz can chime in for future plans (though i’m sure 3.0 is bringing more to the table) that would be great. Personally – I want consolidation but the right tool for the job. Maybe back away from the nomenclature of forums – where the activity stream is already holding a discussion and that this proof is just formalizing the view of the activity stream. (hybrid? – something that is more familiar to the average forum user, etc)
In reply to: Making bp_has_activities() have a global scopethis is defined within the function, to pick up the profile of the user you are viewing…
/* User filtering */
if ( !empty( $bp->displayed_user->id ) )
$user_id = $bp->displayed_user->id;but the wp_parse_args call is after – so have you tried passing in user_id=false to the loop?
In reply to: Buddypress needs to STOP supporting bbPress@boonebgorges Let me read up on custom post types more, I haven’t given it much thought to be honest. A quick glance seems it seems BP activity stream took some steroids, had a fun night, and mated with WP posts.
(even seems in a futuristic sense that the activity stream could utilize custom post types as the backbone?). So that may throw a kink into my original thinking about using the activity stream.Given that… Simplistic reasoning. Basically @21cdb and @r-a-y have mentioned some finer points which I agree with. The hang-ups I have with bbPress is how much “dumbing down” occurs within the BuddyPress wrapper and some of the minor issues that others experience. IMHO – the activity stream IS the backbone of BuddyPress – in the forums context the information is already duplicated (recording the activity, updating on topic post edits) and the fragmentation of conversation is very confusing. We already have the biz functions for recording, replying (+ for nested), pagination, hooks, add-ons, etc
In reply to: Buddypress needs to STOP supporting bbPressI think Buddypress need some kinds of forums for detailed discussions. I don’t think it needs BBPress. The Activity Stream has nearly everything to replace BBPress. … Because it is all build with the Activity Stream technology users can reply from within the Activity Stream, have nested comments and all the great plugins that are developed to work with the Activity Streams.

FWIW – I’m going to attempt this now… hopefully conning @r-a-y into helping (i need someone smarter
) I’m 99.1% sure it can be doneIn reply to: de-activate username link in forumscorrect, have a look at the function/filter bp_get_the_topic_last_poster_name (in bp-forums.templatetags.php)
return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_the_topic_last_poster_name’, ‘‘ . $forum_template->topic->topic_last_poster_nicename . ‘‘ );
*edit – annoying we can’t post code here…
friend count is stored in the wp_usermeta table ‘total_friend_count’ so you may need to manually reset those
there is a function friends_get_total_friend_count( $user_id = false ) { – maybe a quick loop over your user_id(s) to update the wp_usermeta table. Unless something already exists for a better recount (maybe a plugin idea) – for which i’ll wait for @r-a-y to correct me on

Might be sad if I don’t remember what my own plugin does but I have something called Group Forum Extras – which contains some functions to pull out an index of forums. But I believe I coded the sql statement only to pull out the private forums if the user is logged in and a member of. Though this would point you in the right direction if you wanted to modify the code. (just remove that conditional) look for (bp_forum_extras_index_get_forums in the file bp-forums-extras-index.php )
correct, there are instances where it loads in the members/single/activity/permalink
the function bp_activity_screen_single_activity_permalink() calls this but you can override the template call in this filter:
apply_filters( ‘bp_activity_template_profile_activity_permalink’, ‘members/single/activity/permalink’ )
where bp_the_topic_post_admin_links is echo’d?
have a look in function bp_get_the_topic_post_admin_links( $args = ” ) { (bp-forums-templatetags.php)
$bp->groups->current_group->id would be the actual group_id for the group you are viewing (within the group component)
Now if you needed the group_id from an activity record, then the item_id contains the group_id (whereas the component is $bp->group->id )
In reply to: Here come the spammers!!!interesting:
2) How do spammers find BP communities?
Using Google.
Example: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=%2B”is+proudly+powered+by+WordPress+and+BuddyPress”; (front page of every BP site on the net)
Example: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=inurl:%22/community/members/%22+%2Bbuddypress (members page of every BP site on the net)
I have two open test BP installs (one wp_user linked to my blog domain) and changed the standard footer. Not a single spam sign-up (just hashcash installed)
In reply to: @mentions is confusing to memberswhat i posted above – just remove the subnav on the activity component and all the filters so it doesn’t autolink and kick off emails.
In reply to: @mentions is confusing to membersas in the autolinking and email notification during an activity update? You’ll need to remove all the filter hooks and the subnav for the mentions tab.
bunch of filters on bp_activity_at_name_filter, bp_activity_at_message_notification, groups_at_message_notification
bp_core_remove_subnav_item($bp->activity->slug, ‘mentions’)
(though i’m not if someone has created a plugin for it)
In reply to: Different font sizes for various activity itemsyou’ll need to add them to your css theme file – bp_activity_css_class() will output various css names depending on the activity type
In reply to: Remove Member joined group messages from streamyou’ll need to search back a bit – as a number of examples have been posted about “unset”-ing the activity items
In reply to: Activity Stream – “XYZ User has a new avatar”no reason for an if statement
function my_activity_avatar_changed() {
//then pass in whatever array args you want to the activity item
xprofile_record_activity( )}
add_action(‘xprofile_avatar_uploaded’,’my_activity_avatar_changed’);In reply to: Activity Stream – “XYZ User has a new avatar”*runs and hides away*
i need a big flowchart of hooksIn reply to: Activity Stream – “XYZ User has a new avatar”hook on xprofile_screen_change_avatar
In reply to: How would I show “next topic in forum”?When viewing an actual topic – you’re within the scope of the BP_Forums_Template_Topic class instead. So you don’t have a handle to what is the previous or next topic is (since we are dealing with posts)
If you think about it more – it would be hard to build that reference in a forum environment. What if someone replied to a different topic and it was bumped above the current topic being read? Where as in blog posts – they are static based on the time.
In reply to: Remove “are now friends” from activity streami can’t find the old post on here but you can hack it for now by unseting the activity type from the loop
something like this
http://blog.etiviti.com/2010/02/buddypress-hack-remove-new-member-registration-from-activity-stream/In reply to: @mention in wordpress post commentwill need a plugin – see the function bp_activity_at_message_notification how it is done now.
In reply to: Groups name not changing….same as this?
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2264you may have to pull the db side and do some manual edits
@r-a-y if you want to work together on an activity stream only based forum – i would be more than happy to join in. An idea that has been pestering me for a while now.
IMHO – I really see no need for bbPress within BP – I’m not arguing against why it is there now but the activity stream has more potential (i think it leads to more confusion anyways)
In reply to: Different profiles for different user typesone quick way would be to hook on
apply_filters( ‘bp_located_template’, locate_template( (array) $filtered_templates, false ), $filtered_templates )
and perform your check for whatever user type method you have implement and check for members/single/home.php or whatever
have a look at function bp_core_do_catch_uri() {
otherwise depending if xprofile is installed – various filter names are used for the profile pages
apply_filters( ‘bp_core_template_display_profile’, ‘members/single/home’ )
or
apply_filters( ‘xprofile_template_display_profile’, ‘members/single/home’ )as for changing up the members slug on a niche level – i would look over function bp_core_set_uri_globals() { on how it works
*edit – apparently code ticks no longer work… ugh.
