In reply to: New Code: show forum posts since last visit
i would just store a last_activity (every 5 minutes – like the standard last_activity) for each group a user is a member of then run the compare on the topic->topic_time (maybe to make it cleaner – store the last_activity for each group in the bb_meta table – and restrict it down to is_forum and is_forum_topic )
(WP and BP use a lot of cookies as it is – you run the danger of some of the being purged out when the limit is hit)
but what I could not figure out is what code is necessary for the bbPress install to be viewed as configured in the backend within BuddyPress.
Nothing to configure on internal bbPress – it does nothing since BuddyPress just wraps it for group forum functionality.
In reply to: Trying to tweak things up again!Well BuddyPress is not a forum or nor will act like a traditional forum. Are you talking about updates posted to the activity stream?
When you create a group – you can attach a forum for topic discussions to take place within that group.
Its working here: https://buddypress.org/forums/ <- how did they do that? Its exactly what iam searching for
Answered twice in this thread already:
As @r-a-y mentioned – a theme’d “external” bbPress to match BuddyPress is how this current site works.
In reply to: Group Forum Search and TagsI believe the tag issue is slated to be fixed in a future release (remember Andy mentioning something about it)
(can’t see the elance site – login required – so i don’t know what exactly the request is)
As @r-a-y mentioned – a theme’d “external” bbPress to match BuddyPress is how this current site works.
FWIW: BuddyPress wraps the “internal” bbPress and is pared-down down for group-only interaction. Even though you may see the fullset bbPress files and such (ie getting to the bb-admin via hacks, etc) many of those features/functions are disabled inside the BuddyPress context. Obviously making any sort of “backdoor” changes to the internal bbPress will not have any impact on the BuddyPress group forums. This includes adding new nongroup forums, categories, parents, bb-admin settings, etc…
In theory it is possible to display nongroup forums – just a plugin/component/themes files need to be built with that functionality.
In reply to: Several Buddypress sites one login?WebID is a 1st-party solution that each individual owns and controls.
Or even something like Lasso http://lasso.entrouvert.org/documentation/writing-a-php-sp.html
In reply to: Several Buddypress sites one login? If they share the same DB then simple as setting up custom_user_table & custom_user_meta_table
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasFor those using the Forum Index and later on update the group description – a small bug where the bbPress forum table.forum_desc will not update with the new information:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2264
You’ll need to manually update the mywpprefix_bb_forums.forum_desc col
In reply to: BuddyPress Restrict Group CreationSorry about the admin page disappearing… on my local instance it showed up during testing but I was able to confirm on a production the same behavior. It was related to using a “loader” file for safe BP deactivation – some reason the admin_menu was not hooking. So I just reverted back and updated to 0.1.6
also as a side note and if anyone else has this problem. One of my user’s wp_cap is somehow corrupted (set at subscriber but some reason the current_user_can(‘edit_posts’) evals to true but if I import the same user_tables to my local testing instance everything works fine. strange.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasUpdated development version to 0.1.9b3
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-forum-extras/download/
Added Topic Preview – Hover over topic title link, inserts a new table row beneath the title with the first post post_content.
uses jquery hoverintent (default settings)
no theme edit but it traverses the dom tree on the bp-default theme – so you may have to edit the .js file to account for a different forum-loop.php structure.
no ajax – the first post_content is stored in html under a hidden div (i’ll add an option in the future to select full post or excerpt)
In reply to: Embedded video in forums and streamsyou’ll need to add allowedtags to the filters
bp_activity_allowed_tagsandbp_forums_allowed_tagsIn reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasI meant, is there a way to link to the last active post In the Forum Index (i.e. outside of the forum loop)
I remember this discussion on bbpress.org – but i don’t recall the solution, if there is one.
The buttons do need a slight change for my bbcode plugin.
Add Avatar to BP Forum Extras – Forum Index
widget which would display ‘forums’ without many details, like description, but simply a list with forums names
All Updated in the development version – 0.1.9b2
Also added to dev is a new subplugin: Activity Comments on Forum Posts
In reply to: Trouble with the BuddyBar in BBpressdepends on how you have it setup – deep integration is needed to pull in buddypress adminbar into bbpress.
technically it is hooked on
add_action( 'wp_footer', 'bp_core_admin_bar', 8 );In reply to: Forum vs. Activity Stream split personalityuploaded to the development version:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-forum-extras/download/
requires a theme edit (details on the forum extras admin page after activating the subplugin)
In reply to: Plugin Hall of Shame! 🙂 Plugin Devs Please Readupdated BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation to use a loader file (0.1.5) and will look into the sitemap stuff in a few days (need to update it with other features)
In reply to: Plugin Hall of Shame! 🙂 Plugin Devs Please Readah the loader.php way (i had the older check)
When the new and cool bp-org site comes online – possible to have a plugin developer group where best practices, codex updates, etc can be communicated? (just auto assign the user when it picks up the plugin?)
also what about instances where we need to modify items before bp_init? is loading the file on bp_core_loaded ok? (only way I can get restrict group to function properly)
In reply to: Plugin Hall of Shame! 🙂 Plugin Devs Please Read# BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation
# BuddyPress Sitemap Generator
both use
add_action( 'bp_init',but i just noticed restrict group used wp_head so i’ll change that to bp_head
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasThe buttons do need a slight change for my bbcode plugin.
I’ll add this to the next update.
Question: can you think of an easy way to include a link to the last active post, say, in a final column? I looked at the code last night didn’t get that far.
this function will return the link to the last post for a given topic (inside the loop) (where 15 is the default posts per_page setting)
bp_forum_extras_topic_last_post_link( 15 )In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum Extrasit is on there, when you enable the shortcode filter – under the admin settings there is a checkbox to enable the buttons.
In reply to: Forum vs. Activity Stream split personalityI’ll get something added into group forum extras development in the next day or so
– the functionality is basic – no replying but there is a activity permalink, and probably some css work is required
In reply to: Forum vs. Activity Stream split personalityi was dreaming about it last night and had a few moments this morning between meetings….
so how about something like this?
http://files.etiviti.com/misc/buddypress/buddypress-activity-stream-on-forum-posts.gif
Pulls in the activity-comments for a forum post
In reply to: Upgrading to bp 1.2.3 broke activity RSS feedIn reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasReport Post is a must for me – so something I will look into. Unfortunately my mind suffers from scope creep and Activity comments would benefit from this as well (not sure if I’ll create a new plugin for an encompassing functionality)
