In reply to: Password strength feature
Since no codewarrior has stepped up, I’ve implemented a temporary fix. I modified the registration page to say “Is mine strong?” with a link to https://www.microsoft.com/protect/fraud/passwords/checker.aspx?WT.mc_id=Site_Link that opens in a new window. It would be nice to have a password strength meter to encourage strong password creation in future Buddypress versions.
Thank you. I wasn’t sure but I’ll do that. It’s good to know that the forums are more organized than meets the eye.
In reply to: WPMU 2.9.2 to WPMU 3.0 –> Avatars broken@r-a-y you’re amazing and so is Pete. Thank you both!
Thanks! I just had to delete that file and do an upgrade via the dashboard. Definitely easy. Hope others read this and don’t get worried by the message. Love the new 3.0 look!
In reply to: A Webinar tool for Buddypress? You might enjoy 37 Signal’s service called Campfire or Basecamp for team/staff interactions: http://37signals.com/
I heard about https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/scholarpress-courseware/ in the blogosphere lately. I wasn’t impressed with how it worked so I took it off my beta site. I hope one of both of these will help.
In reply to: Remove ”/members” slug so its “.com/membername”Thank you!
In reply to: Posts & Comments Count on ProfilesThe buddypress-member-profile-stats plugin might interest you: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-member-profile-stats/
The Invite Anyone plugin by @boonebgorges is great for inviting people but you have to enter their emails: http://teleogistic.net/code/buddypress/invite-anyone/ People on my site like it because they invite people who they know will contribute to the site instead of just click around.
In reply to: A Webinar tool for Buddypress?Could you describe it a bit more? Do you mean you want to have a live stream embedded somewhere on the site? Some sites like Justin.tv or Ustream may offer an embed code (I’m not sure since I don’t stream) that you could drop in a Text/HTML widget on the sidebar.
One option is to have Field Groups for different things. For example, on one BP site we have a section for each category of users on the site. Undergrads, alum, businesses. So each group will fill out their respective section and the public view will appear to be completely different profiles types I guess. Hope that helps.
In reply to: Achievements Achievements AchievementsAwesome. Thank you.
In reply to: Plugin for customizing language file?https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/ is what I was looking at.
If anyone knows any shortcuts for customizing the buddypress language file that would be a time saver. Thanks.
In reply to: WPMU 2.9.2 or WP 3.0 RC2?Thank you both. It seems like WPMU 2.9.2 is the safest bet. I hope the WP 3.0 normal release will continue to let me have multiple blogs with my clients.
@intimez that’s good to know that it’s a simple edit. I’m sure that it will be a FAQ item or topic of discussion when we cross that bridge.
In reply to: Welcome Pack has blank text zones@DJPaul . Weird. Disabled everything but BP and WP and it still occurs. Tried to update settings in Chrome, Safari and Firefox and it still happens.
In reply to: Welcome Pack has blank text zonesLoL Paul. I didn’t know it came with Welcome Pack Roulette too.
I’m not sure what a user names only plugin is. All I have are achievements and cubepoints (and its BP integration plugin) right now. Not sure why this is happening. Sounds like you’re close though.
In reply to: Here come the spammers!!!There are some good exhaustive posts about spammers on this site… but what will change from the server level? I have gotten a few spam messages too and there’s nothing I can do except for delete them. Could the site setup a recaptcha required box before sending messages? Would that be effective?
If Buddypress can create a proactive plugin or core feature to mitigate spam that many of us are receiving, it will improve our confidence in the service (privacy and security is a common mantra in the forums). If buddypress.org finds a plugin works well, please share which one it is in a sticky post so we all see it and it won’t get lost between many posts. When there are multiple suggestions to a specific problem then it shows that there really isn’t a solution at this time. Thank you.
In reply to: Avatar error@BooneGorges I have that same error/issue occur on Buddypress.org, so it doesn’t seem to be an isolated issue. I still have the randomly selected gravatar because I have that error when I try to upload a new image on this site.

In reply to: Cubepoints just doesn’t work?Is there a way to remove the “$” before the points on profiles?
In reply to: Cubepoints just doesn’t work? Also, does your Ranks page not work? when I click Add Rank a blank white box appears and nothing happens.
In reply to: Cubepoints just doesn’t work?Thank you so much hnla. That’s a silly but important first step I overlooked.
Question: there are two panels for point value settings: one in its own button at the bottom left of wp-admin and one in the buddypress section. Which is the one I should focus on or do the two match each other?
In reply to: Cubepoints just doesn’t work?1. Upload the contents of `cubepoints-buddypress-integration.zip` to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory.
2. Activate the “CubePoints Buddypress Integration” Plugin
3. Modify the point values if you wish in the BP CubePoints admin menu.Yes. Uploaded, activated, changed point values. Nothing.
In reply to: Minimum Post Level — Inactive UsersYou can do it manually. One option is to go to the WP admin > Site Admin > Users. You can sort users by when they register. Check to see if they’re active. If not, you can deal with it accordingly. Others might have crafty ideas that would be easier than this.
@r-a-y sorry for the incorrect reference on wmpu.org
Good point. Most of those concepts I’m comfortable with.@stwc
a) Good idea to have a localhost setup! That might work well if users know how to set it up. I can do that this weekend.
b) I’ll check that out. I’ve noticed a lot of learning is just trial and error and it’s an extremely well organized and well written plugin. Some sites hide their files so others can’t see it, but if available, it is fun to see how other sites customize their site.
c) Plugins on a localhost would be fast and easy to add/drop/modify too.
d) I’ve been extremely impressed with the feedback in the forums. Most people who post clear questions/topics are able to get answers within an hour or a day or two which is a major plus.I guess I’m in the same spot. I can modify my themes a bit, move stuff around, but I’m not comfortable with the PHP or programming aspect of the site. Having a testbp site of your own is a great low-risk learning tool and a lot of fun.
Thank you both. The forums have a wealth of information.
In reply to: Password strength featureHmm…. I’m not sure how I’d approach that feature.
Thank you. I was able to be reminded of what it was.
But if I can download the file, can’t anyone potentially see the password?
