In reply to: New User Actions for BP
Just looking into the bp_core_signup_user() function again. Sorry for pointing this to you in the first place!
I would not recommend using this function because it sets a user’s status to “not active”, then sends an email to activate the account (which makes sense because that’s the default registration behavior in BP!).
Since we don’t want to ask a FB user to activate their account, stick with the wp_insert_user() function, then use some code to sync up the xprofile fields like:
// set xprofile field 1 (Name) with the fbuser's first name
xprofile_set_field_data(1,$user_login_id,$fbuser['first_name']);
/*
* @param $field The ID of the field, or the $name of the field.
* @param $user_id The ID of the user
* @param $value The value for the field you want to set for the user.
*/To initialize BP, look at using the bp_init action:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/checking-buddypress-is-active/
[EDIT]
Just looking into the WP-FB-AutoConnect plugin, Justin (the author) has a do_action that you could hook into:
do_action('wpfb_login', array('WP_ID' => $user_login_id, 'FB_ID' => $fb_uid, 'facebook' => $facebook) );Here you can sync up your xprofile fields, etc. Unfortunately, this action occurs every time a Facebook user logs in. You could view this as a positive or a negative!
I think it would be nice if Justin added another do_action right after the wp_insert_user() function in _process_login.php.
[EDIT #2]
Requested a new do_action on Justin’s plugin page – http://www.justin-klein.com/projects/wp-fb-autoconnect/comment-page-5#comment-11638.
In reply to: New User Actions for BPThat’s correct the $usermeta variable holds the submitted xprofile fields from the BP registration page.
eg. you could do this:
$usermeta['field_1'] = $fbuser['first_name']; // field_1 = "Name" on BP registration pageYou’ll have to grab the correct field_x name for each xprofile meta you want to sync up with the FB auto plugin.

BP_VERSION might not be working because WP-FB-AutoConnect is probably loaded before BP, so WP-FB-AutoConnect (man that’s a mouthful!) doesn’t know that BP exists.
In reply to: Skysa Footer BarI removed the affiliate link from the original post, other than that, it appears okay.
If there are reports of illegitimate usage, let us know.
In reply to: Forum replies won’t stickLogin to the WP backend, navigate to “BuddyPress > Component setup”. Disable bbPress forums. Save and re-enable bbPress forums.
Then navigate to the group in question, navigate to the group admin area, click on “Group Settings”. Uncheck “Enable discussion forum”, save and then re-check “Enable discussion forum” and save.
Now try to post a forum topic.
See if that works.
Locking thread.
Contact Kevin for more details.
Yeah, you can basically use any jQuery tooltip plugin out there (there are a ton!).
But thanks to gian-ava for getting the ball rolling for everyone!
In reply to: New Install – Seems not to work fullyCool, glad that worked!
Marked as resolved.
Btw, disregard that “admin” account thing I mentioned above.
I’m just so used to a default “admin” account!
In reply to: New Install – Seems not to work fullyLooks like you renamed your “admin” account.
That might be causing your problems.
Also try adding the following to your /wp-config.php file:
define( 'BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE', true );In reply to: Notification is not working properlyBy default, notifications are not created for replied updates or mentions.
You’ll have to create a plugin for that.
In reply to: New Install – Seems not to work fullyIn the BuddyBar, navigate to “My Account > Profile > Change Avatar”.
Your site seems to work fine for me.
In reply to: send mass emailA notice displays a message on the site only; an email isn’t sent out.
In the default theme, this is shown on the sidebar.
Use the following template tag to display notices:
<?php
if ( function_exists( 'bp_message_get_notices' ) )
bp_message_get_notices();
?>In reply to: send mass emailJust took a quick look at the code, it’s not great to add all the recipients to the one message because when you view the message in BP, you’ll see all the user IDs attached to that message.
To remedy this, use a foreach loop for the $user_ids array.
Also, implement some type of delay for every x amount of messages sent.
Check out the sleep() function.
eg.
$s = 0; // sent messages counter
foreach ($user_ids as $user_id) {
if($user_id == "1") continue; // do not send message to yourself!
messages_new_message( array('sender_id' => 1, 'subject' => $subject, 'content' => $body, 'recipients' => $user_id) );
$s++;
if ( $s % 50 == 0 )
sleep(10); // to help server load, delay 10 seconds for every 50 messages sent
}This is fixed in BP 1.2.3:
https://buddypress.org/about/release-history/#1.2.3
Upgrade to the latest release.
In reply to: Adding blog tab on WP/BP installIn reply to: Members Page Messagewould be good to have a plugin that would let you admin a message in case there’s news or updates to the message if you think its going to change that often.
I believe that was the original intention for the site notices in BP:
hxxp://mydomain.com/members/admin/messages/notices/
You can re-position the notices display with the following template tag:
<?php
if ( function_exists( 'bp_message_get_notices' ) )
bp_message_get_notices();
?>In reply to: Group AvatarsIn reply to: Group AvatarsIt’s hard to pinpoint the problem without knowing more about your install.
Are you able to upload a profile avatar?
In reply to: Avatar Image SizeCheck out this codex page:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/changing-internal-configuration-settings/
Scroll down to the avatar section.
These defines should be inputted in wp-config.php.
In reply to: BuddyFace free BuddyPress themePiu e meglio!
In reply to: BuddyFace free BuddyPress themeCool! I think this is the second Facebook-like BP theme out there.
The first was Fishbook by Mike Kuhlmann – http://www.michaelkuhlmann.com/buddypass/
You could probably use this snippet in your theme’s functions.php file:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/how-to-make-a-private-community/page/2#post-44729
If you attempt to access the site and you’re not logged in, you will be redirected to the register page.
In reply to: Login moved from sidebar to admin barIf you’re using a child theme of the default BP theme, use this tidbit to remove the login widget from the sidebar:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/how-to-remove-login-sidebar-from-bp-12-default-theme#post-46264
To add the login form to the BuddyBar, you’ll need to create a function that outputs the login form and then you’ll need to hook it to the BuddyBar.
Here’s some sample code that you can add to your theme’s functions.php:
function my_login_bar() {
// basically a copy of the login form from the BP sidebar
?>
<form name="login-form" id="sidebar-login-form" class="standard-form" action="<?php echo site_url( 'wp-login.php', 'login' ) ?>" method="post">
<label><?php _e( 'Username', 'buddypress' ) ?><br />
<input type="text" name="log" id="sidebar-user-login" class="input" value="<?php echo attribute_escape(stripslashes($user_login)); ?>" /></label>
<label><?php _e( 'Password', 'buddypress' ) ?><br />
<input type="password" name="pwd" id="sidebar-user-pass" class="input" value="" /></label>
<p class="forgetmenot"><label><input name="rememberme" type="checkbox" id="sidebar-rememberme" value="forever" /> <?php _e( 'Remember Me', 'buddypress' ) ?></label></p>
<input type="submit" name="wp-submit" id="sidebar-wp-submit" value="<?php _e('Log In'); ?>" tabindex="100" />
<input type="hidden" name="testcookie" value="1" />
</form>
<?php
}
// the magic that hooks your my_login_bar() function to the BuddyBar
add_action( 'bp_adminbar_menus', 'my_login_bar', 2);Keep in mind, you’ll need to style the form to make it look nice in the admin bar, but that should get you started.
More info in modifying the BuddyBar can be found here:

In reply to: Following / Followers at testbp.orgAndy moved testbp.org over to standard WP because the majority of new BP users are likely to be standard WP users:
http://testbp.org/activity/p/73263/
You could probably use another test install that other developers have setup such as Marius Ooms (http://sandbox.ywamcloud.com/) or David Cartwright (http://namoo.co.uk/). Though their BP installs might not be running the latest trunk version like testbp.org is.
You could always create your own test environment locally as well!
In reply to: Install on MU or regular WP?There are also some BP plugins that require WPMU such as BP Groupblog, BP Group Wiki and BP Classifieds.
Make a copy of the bp_adminbar_notifications_menu() function (located in /buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-adminbar.php) and add a check to see if there are any notifications to the main list item, if there are, output a CSS class for the list item.
You’ll need to override the default notifications menu in the BuddyBar.
Read this guide to find out how to modify the BuddyBar:
