In reply to: Site Admin > Group Access
If you’re using WordPress MU, the groups admin menu can be found under “Site Admin > Groups”
In reply to: Create a Site ForumThis site uses an external bbPress install, and is not the conventional BuddyPress method for setting up forums.
An example of the conventional BP method can be found here: http://testbp.org/forums
If you like the way the bp.org forums look, you’ll have to integrate WordPress with bbPress.
One guide to integrate WP and bbPress can be found here:

Other WP/bbPress guides are available over on:
In reply to: how can I request a new do_action hookThere is:
<?php do_action( 'bp_after_groups_loop' ) ?>But that isn’t directly after the bp_has_groups loop.
Add it in Trac as an enhancement:
https://trac.buddypress.org/newticket
Login with the same username/password as you use on bp.org.
In reply to: Advanced Search, is it possible??I believe the plugin is called BP Member Filter:
In reply to: Disabling Groups, using global bbPress forum anywayOmit steps 38-41 in the tutorial above.
Your issue is really a WPMU<->bbPress integration and has nothing to do with BuddyPress.
It is definitely doable to integrate.
Last time I did it, I used WPMU 2.8.6 (i believe) and latest bbPress (1.0.2).
Might I suggest heading over to the bbPress forums?
In reply to: Tried HipHop ?I had no idea what you were talking about at first!
But a quick Google search led to it:

Sounds interesting!
I’m not brave enough to try it yet, but do let us know!
In reply to: Disabling Groups, using global bbPress forum anywayIntegrate bbPress with WPMU first. Then disable groups and forums in BuddyPress. No need to go through BuddyPress’ Forums setup.
In reply to: Disabling Groups, using global bbPress forum anywayThis tutorial worked for me:

It’s a little old, but the basic premise is the same.
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.3-beta released for testingOne bug I just noticed, if you check a user’s profile activity (eg. example.com/members/admin), only the links activity is shown. All other activity is gone.

In reply to: Editing Group and Forum page title tagsIn reply to: Editing Group and Forum page title tagsHey guys,
You need to replace the pipe character with ” &##124;” (without quotes).
[EDIT] Remove the second # character! I had to add it to this post because of the HTML character conversion.[/EDIT]
Replace this line:
$title = str_replace( ' | Groups', '', $title );with:
$title = str_replace( ' &##124; Groups', '', $title );Also right after that line, add the following to remove the word “Forum”:
$title = str_replace( ' &##124; Forum', '', $title );—

http://pastebin.com/1zdN7C7K (August 24, 2010)In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.3-beta released for testingMrMaz: Latest bleeding version of BP Links works beautifully! And even on a subdirectory install of BP. Works well and the AJAX for grabbing the avatar and item description is way cool!
Couple of suggestions:
-On the Links Directory page, for each BP link, can you remove the “Home” hyperlink, I don’t see the difference between clicking on that and clicking the “Comments” hyperlink
-When you’re on a BP link, you see two tabs: “Home” and “Admin” (if you have the privileges to do so). Can you rename “Admin” to “Edit”? I think the word “edit” makes more sense.
-Minor thing: In the WP admin area, can you move your “BP Links” settings menu under BuddyPress’ menu?
-Major thing: Is it possible for the activity permalink to display the link avatar and vote panel? (eg. hxxp://example.com/activity/p/RAND-NUM/
–If not, if possible, can you remove the “View” link from the activity comment?
—eg. “Ray posted a comment on the link MYLINK: 2 minutes ago · View · Delete” (remove View)
—Reason why the “View” link should be removed is an activity comment refering to a BP link doesn’t make much sense without the link avatar or vote panel. The user can still click on MYLINK to view all the comments for it.
In reply to: Facebook-Like-Chat Plugin for Buddypress?I haven’t tried Cometchat, but the demo is quite impressive. Integration with groups would be killer.
Forgot to mention that you’ll need to modify Bowob if you want BP display names shown instead of usernames.
Also chat data for Bowob, Footerchat and Webbychat resides on their servers. So if that’s an issue, you might not want to use these scripts.
In reply to: Install BP in a Sub-BlogHey Michael,
Forgot about your question.
If your old member / group avatars work without redefining the avatar URL and upload path, then that’s good for you

I also can’t tell you what will happen with subdomains.
The only thing I can say is try to break it!

Try uploading a new avatar with an old user and see what happens.
In reply to: Activity Stream as homepage, no blog tab RC21) Create an empty, new page called “News” or “Blog” or whatever you want.
2) Under “Settings > Reading”, set front page to “Activity Stream” and your posts page to the new page that you just created.
In reply to: Activity Stream as homepage, no blog tab RC2You have to create a new page specifically for your blog.
Then you can set it in the reading settings.
In reply to: Facebook-Like-Chat Plugin for Buddypress? These are all that I’m aware of:
Cometchat is working on a BuddyPress integration with friends support. It’s a paid script.
Bowob Chat works, but does not have a friend feature, also you might get the plugin author’s ads on your site. Free (w/ ads).
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bowob/
Footerchat is another possibility, again, it has no friends support and you will get some ads occasionally. Free (w/ ads).
Webbychat is another. Has a basic free option, which only supports up to 10 users. Variable paid options are available. You’ll have to manually configure the script to work with BP.
In reply to: Friends limitWow, you limit your friends in real life to a certain number too?
Facebook does!
In reply to: BP on subdomain and new blog registration URLI’m wondering about the exact same thing (only for subdirectories and not subdomains!)
Since using a subdirectory install is less obvious than a subdomain (eg. example.com/community/register vs. example.com/register), I might just theme the register page so it matches my root blog.
But, I’d love for you to figure this out, Boone!
In reply to: Anchor tags/permalinks for individual forum posts?Upgrade to RC2 then.
Since you’re on 1.2 beta, you can just download RC2 and overwrite the files.
Check out testbp.org.
It’s running on RC2 and the forum posts have permalinks.
In reply to: BuddyPress for dummies booklol @ designodyssey!
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.3-beta released for testingAlso if you’re using a child theme of bp-default, the stylesheet URL links to:
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-links/themes/bp-links-custom/style.csswhich doesn’t’ exist.
But the actual location of it is:
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-links/themes/bp-links-default/style.css
—
[EDIT]
Looks like the magic happens here:
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-links/buddypress-links.php
There’s a couple of defines here that can be overriden in bp-custom.php.
Will play with this a bit more when I have some time.
In reply to: BuddyPress for dummies bookIt’s by Lisa Sabin-Wilson, it’s not officially by BP.
Not sure how the book addresses BP 1.2 though!
In reply to: BuddyPress Links 0.3-beta released for testingUsing WPMU 2.9.1.1, BP trunk installed in a subdirectory and a fresh install of BP Links bleeding, I get a wordpress “Page Not Found” for the links directory.
Also, if the “BP Links” settings menu can reside under the main BuddyPress menu, that would be great.
