In reply to: Cannot create groups
Turn off
WP_DEBUGinwp-config.phpand you should be able to continue using the “Re-order Group Tabs” plugin.As for BP Group Hierarchy, that probably requires an update to function properly.
BuddyPress 2.5.3 can be found here:
https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/buddypress.2.5.3.zipTry switching your theme to a WordPress default theme.
If that doesn’t work, disable all unnecessary plugins. If that works, then re-enable your plugins one at a time to see which plugin is causing trouble.
Sorry to hear you are experiencing trouble.
You could try adapting the friend count script:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/2.5.3/src/bp-core/admin/bp-core-admin-tools.php#L168Or, if you are familiar with wp-cli, you could convert that script into a wp-cli command:
http://wp-cli.org/docs/commands-cookbook/Then, you could run the script through wp-cli.
In reply to: BuddyPress redirects to frontpage on registration@terpz – I think your problem is similar to this thread:

https://buddypress.org/support/topic/registration-and-edit-profile-issue/#post-254078I’ve listed this bug report here:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7109If you are going to be using functions from BP components, you should check if that component is active before using that function.
For example:
if ( bp_is_active( 'messages' ) ) { $count = bp_get_total_unread_messages_count( bp_loggedin_user_id() ); }In reply to: colors on emailsCheck out this codex page:

There is currently no member extension API.
Check out the
bp_core_new_nav_item()andbp_core_new_subnav_item()functions inbp-core/bp-core-buddybar.php:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/2.6.0-rc1/src/bp-core/bp-core-buddybar.php?marks=15-38,369-399#L15You’d want to register your navs on the
'bp_setup_nav'hook.eg.
function my_custom_bp_nav() { // Fill this in from the documentation. $nav_args = array(); // Add nav. bp_core_new_nav_item( $nav_args ); // If you need to add another nav, copy and paste the block above and paste here. } add_action( 'bp_setup_nav', 'my_custom_bp_nav' );Check out this older example on the codex as well:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/function-examples/core/bp_core_new_nav_item/Depending on your requirements, you could also use the BP Skeleton Component:
https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-skeleton-componentHowever, that might be too much for what you need.
You should only activate group extensions on the BuddyPress site whenever possible, not network-wide.
What happens when you activate the group extensions only on the BuddyPress site?
Try this snippet instead:
if ( defined( 'WP_NETWORK_ADMIN' ) ) { error_log( 'group extension: ' . get_called_class() ); }Make sure that
WP_DEBUGis turned on. Then, when the fatal error occurs, checkwp-content/debug.logto see if anything is logged withgroup_extension:.@sharmavishal – Do you see anything printed in the browser when the fatal error occurs?
Something like:
BP_Groupblog_ExtensionBBP_Forums_Group_Extension?In reply to: Adding Sub-groupsYeah, that’s right.
We ran out of time to add these features, but we will in BP 2.7.
@sharmavishal – Can you add the following in
wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-groups/classes/class-bp-group-extension.php:if ( defined( 'WP_NETWORK_ADMIN' ) ) { echo get_called_class(); }Right before this:
// Usually this will work. $group_id = bp_get_current_group_id();This should print the names of the group extension classes that are being loaded right before the fatal error.
Can you copy and paste this info here?
Thanks!
In reply to: Adding Sub-groupsYou can only manage group types when editing a group in the WP admin dashboard’s “Groups” page at the moment.
@sharmavishal – I tested on a multisite subdirectory setup and going to the “Network Admin > Sites” dashboard page to create a new site (is this what you used as well?) and I could not duplicate the error.
I’m guessing it is a BP group extension plugin that is loading too early. Do you have any BP group plugins installed on your site?
In reply to: Adding Sub-groupsso i can bp group types following the codex and add it in bp-custom.php?
Yes, you can add the code to
wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php.@sharmavishal @harrytsang – I have split this bug report into its own topic from the main beta topic thread.
Can you please list the steps for how you are encountering this fatal error? On what page? We need to duplicate this bug. Also, list the plugins you are using.
In reply to: Private messages isn’t workingSjoerd – I think your issue should be fixed in BuddyPress 2.6.
BuddyPress 2.6 is going to be released next week, so if you can wait until then that would be great.
Or, you can test our release candidate version here:
BuddyPress 2.6.0 Release Candidate 1 now available for testing
In reply to: Adding Sub-groupsbut BP Group types is comming in BuddyPress 2.6..just wait for that if that would meet your requirements cause that would be in the core of bp…
For BuddyPress 2.6, group types will not allow you to sort groups into sub-groups. It’s only a developer feature for organizing groups into different types (think tagging posts) at the moment. We hope to expand this feature in future versions.
Check out the codex article for more info:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/group-typesIn reply to: BuddyPress 2.6RC Embeds for activityWe do not show the preview of the URL in the actual activity stream. It shows up in the activity embed when you want to share your activity update on other sites.
Check out the codex article for more info:
https://codex.buddypress.org/activity-embedsYour suggestion is something I’ve been thinking about as well, but this will be changing the default behavior of oEmbed items since BP v1.5. We might think about this for a later version of BuddyPress.
In reply to: Blank notifications in BuddypressBlank notifications are usually caused by a plugin.
To find out which plugin is causing it, hover over the “Read” link for the blank notification on your Notifications page. You should see the
notification_idparameter. Memorize the value of that parameter.Now, go into your database using phpMyAdmin or Adminer and find the
wp_bp_notificationsDB table. Underid, locate the notification ID we memorized above.Note down the
component_nameandcomponent_actionfor this notification. This should narrow down the plugin that created that notification.In reply to: php errorContact the authors of rtMedia:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/In reply to: WP User Avatar Not Showing in BuddyPressSo what you’re looking for is to use a custom user avatar instead of BuddyPress’?
Try the following code snippet in your theme’s
functions.phporwp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:remove_filter( 'get_avatar', 'bp_core_fetch_avatar_filter', 10, 6 );Update – That code snippet only reverts the avatar in WordPress posts and comments.
To override BuddyPress avatars in BuddyPress content with a custom avatar solution, you would have to hook into the
'bp_core_fetch_avatar'filter:
