    @kalico – You should post your question on the CBOX forums:

    About the Project

    If the problem is with Docs, do post a bug report here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/buddypress-docs

    You could also try upgrading to the latest version of BuddyPress Docs to see if that fixes your problem.

    Which, broke the profile again. No worries, I’m a pro at this now, LOL, so I changed the group ID to 1

    This is very weird indeed. Not sure why the group ID is not set to 1 even after purging the Extended Profile database tables and doing a fresh install of those tables.

    We’ll try to duplicate this when we have a chance.

    Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

    Hmm… I forgot that those “Name” fields were not deletable from the admin dashboard.

    I would recommend the following:

    1. Disable the Extended Profiles component
    2. Tell your developer to go into your database and drop the following DB tables:
    – wp_bp_xprofile_data
    – wp_bp_xprofile_fields
    – wp_bp_xprofile_groups
    – wp_bp_xprofile_meta
    3. Next, go back to “Settings > BuddyPress > Components” and re-enable the Extended Profiles component

    This should recreate the Extended Profiles database tables from scratch and hopefully things should be okay afterwards.

    that worked!!

    Glad to hear you’re up and running!

    But should I now see 5 tabs of Field Groups that all say “Base (Primary)” when I go to Profile Fields under Users?

    No, you shouldn’t.

    You should leave the first “Base (Primary)” tab alone, but do delete the rest of them.

    Do the same for the “Name (Primary)” field in the “Base” group. Keep the first one, but delete the rest.

    Note that this is a new install. I’ve never used BuddyPress before

    This does sound like a bug. It would be great to retrace your steps so we can duplicate this problem. Did you activate / deactivate / activate the plugin multiple times?

    Same goes for the components list under “Settings > BuddyPress > Components” in the WP admin dashboard. Did you uncheck / check / submit certain components multiple times?

    Sorry to hear you had trouble applying the snippet. I tested it locally before posting and it worked for me.

    How did you add the snippet? If you have FTP access to your server, you should be able to navigate to the file to open and remove the snippet.

    If you do not have access to your database, you can temporarily put the following snippet in your theme’s functions.php or wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php file:

    function ray_xprofile_group_fix() {
    	global $wpdb, $bp;

    	if ( empty( $_GET['xprofilefix'] ) || empty( $bp ) ) {
    		return;
    	}

    	$wpdb->query( "UPDATE {$bp->profile->table_name_groups} SET id = 1 WHERE id = 2" );
    }
    add_action( 'get_header', 'ray_xprofile_group_fix' );

    Then, go to your website and append ?xprofilefix=1 to your website URL.

    eg. example.com/?xprofilefix=1

    This should change your profile group ID back to 1. Next, check your registration page and “Edit Profile” link and see if they work.

    Once you have confirmed that it works, remove the code snippet from your theme’s functions.php or bp-custom.php file.

    @angelaq – I think your problem is related to this:
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/bad-link-to-profile-edit/#post-174602

    I’m quoting the workaround solution below:

    Since I’ve seen so many threads regarding it and I was having same issue.

    this is regarding 404 error page if you are on page profile/edit/group/1/

    Problem is group 1 is missing in your profile section.

    All you need to do is go into you DB and look for table: wp_bp_xprofile_groups

    Then look for id=2, Base

    then just change id=2 to 1 and that’s it.

    This does sound like a legitimate bug.

    I’ve opened an issue about this here:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7109

    @r-a-y

    Can both of you try reading this and see if the same problem applies to you?

    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/bad-link-to-profile-edit/#post-174602

    It sounds like this might be the problem at least for @angelaq.

    So I thought I would shed some light on this issue. Since I’ve seen so many threads regarding it and I was having same issue.

    I’m interested to see what the cause of this problem is.

    If anyone is not scared of letting me debug on their site, please contact me.

    The link has to be added on a new line.

    This is the same as how WordPress does embeds:

    I also tested BP 2.5.3 on WP 4.5.2 on a fresh install and cannot duplicate your problem, Earl_D.

    I tested with the Extended Profiles component enabled.

    Are you using any caching plugins? If so, try to disable it or whitelist the register and activate pages from caching.

    Do you have any special extended profile registration fields? If so, can you list what they are and how they are configured?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    The Settings component allows a user to change their email address and password.

    So if that is all you need, there should be a WordPress plugin out there that does something similar on the frontend. Check wordpress.org/plugins. I do not have a recommendation for you.

    “Everyone” is public, “All Members” means someone has to be logged-in in order to view the field.

    @r-a-y

    You would have better luck posting on the BuddyPress Docs support forum:
    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/buddypress-docs

    @r-a-y

    For users to delete their own account, they can navigate to their profile. Next, tell the user to navigate to “Settings > Delete Account”.

    @r-a-y

    In the WP admin dashboard, go to “Settings > BuddyPress > Components” and uncheck all components except Settings.

    IMO, I don’t think you necessarily need BuddyPress for this.

    Thanks for the post, however since you are referencing forums, you should post on the bbPress support site.

    Edit – I see that you’ve already posted on the bbPress forums:
    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/how-to-delete-remove-posts-andor-threads/

    Just for reference:

    * bbPress = forums
    * BuddyPress = community (member profiles, groups, private messaging, etc.)

    bbPress adds forum support to BuddyPress.

    I think it is a plugin problem.

    I’m guessing that @palla5000 is using some type of post type changer plugin or something along those lines.

    palla5000 – Can you list the plugins you are using?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    See:
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-2-5-1-maintenance-release/#post-250987

    I’ve added a potential fix for this here:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/attachment/ticket/6969/6969.01.patch

    Make the change to bp-core/classes/class-bp-email-recipient.php to fix this temporarily until BP 2.5.2 is released.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    That’s your problem.

    Whitelist the register and activate pages in W3 Total Cache from caching.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Have you checked to see if you are able to send email using what I stated above?

    Try going to “Settings > Discussion” and make sure the checkboxes under “Email me whenever” are checked. Next, try posting a blog post comment as a logged-out, anonymous user and see if you receive the email.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    I turned off all Plugins except WordPress and Buddypress and this issue still occurs.

    Are you sure you disabled all plugins except BuddyPress? If so, check for any rogue code snippets in your theme’s functions.php or wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php.

    Once that is done, delete all registration pages you have set up in WordPress. Create a new WordPress page to be used for BuddyPress registration. Just enter a post title and hit “Publish”. Also, ensure all your pages in the “Pages” trash are deleted.

    Next, go to “Settings > BuddyPress > Pages” and set the “Register” page to the page you just created.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Are you using any caching plugins?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    If you are using any WordPress plugins that manipulate email, try disabling them and see if you are able to send out the activation email.

    If you are using any email plugins, please list them as well. If not, check if your WordPress install can send any email. You can check by enabling post comment moderation under “Settings > Discussion” and using an anonymous user to post a comment on your blog.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    bbPress wouldn’t give you any suggestions.

    I just took a look at the bbPress codebase and bbPress should link usernames when @USERNAME is used in the post content. That’s basically the extent of their at-mention functionality.
