I did that but for some reason people are able to select other themes such as twenty ten and twenty eleven.
I can understand how.
Note: The funny thing is that those sites and the mebers that created those sites are only visible in the WP-Admin but not on the main site. I am wondering if there is a security hole somewhere because any new mebers and his/her site should show on the main site also, not just in the WP-admin area.
Thank you @ubernaut
I am now facing another problem:
I have network enabled the main theme that we use on socialwikileaks-dot-com (it is X2 theme from themekraft) for members to use for their sites.
Since there are 3 other themes (BuddyPress default, BuddyPress Twenty Ten, and BuddyPress Twenty Eleven) also available in the “theme” section, so some newly registered members have selected one of those 3 themes.
I manage to delete two of the themes (Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven) but I can not delete the “BuddyPress Default” theme.
Since I want members to “only use the main site theme X2”, I am wondering if there is a way to:
1. Delete the BuddyPress default theme?
2. Not allow anyone to use any other theme except the main site theme X2 to maintain consistency thru out the network?
Thank you for your time and help.
Appreciate the help.
Thanks you gentlemen!
Couple more questions:
Is there somewhere a list of various profile fields that can be added?
Is there any plugin that can help add various profile fields?
Thank you.
Thank you my friend!
Thank you @ubernaut
My WPEngine hosting (Professional Plan) came with Multisite enabled.
Is it possible for me to just have regular buddypress site and disable the Multisite?
The static page problem is fixed.
Still working on the other one.
Thank you for your help.
I just asked in the SocialAuth plugin forum if they can make it compatible with Multisite and BuddyPres.

Ok, found two plugins for ‘wordpress’ based on HybridAuth:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/socialauth-wp/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-social-login/
Q: Does any of these two plugins work with Multisite and BP?
Thank you.
Thank you @rogercoathup Good to know for future reference when I need this functionality in few weeks.
I just checked http://hybridauth.sourceforge.net/ and it looks very powerful and free.
Is there any Multisite/BP plugin already available for this?
Btw, here is the latest about “Social Sign In” using Facebook/Twitter/Google (linkedIn soon) plugin from addthis.com guys:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis-social-sign-in/
I asked them few questions as follows on there site:
My Questions:
Is this for ‘social sign in’ only?
Any plans to eventually include social sharing and social commenting?
What kind of cost if any are we looking at?
Does this plugin supports all the following:
1. WP
2. WP MultiSite
3. BuddyPress
Please advise.
Thanks.

@RK
1. It’s only Social Sign In. We have a host of other plugins however for some of these tasks. We decided to keep them separate to give you maximum flexibility.
– Social sharing: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis
– Following: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis-follow
– Welcoming: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis-welcome
2. It’ll always be free! Since we’re just a middleman there’s no significant cost to us providing this service, so we’re happy to pass the savings on to you!
3. We haven’t tested on Multisite or BuddyPress yet. If you do, I’d love to know what happens.—————————————————
Note: I don’t have a live site yet.I am wondering if someone can test it for Multisite and Buddypress?
Btw, WP-FB-Connect is a free plugin for WP and BP but it is paid if for Multisite (single license $30, Developer license $70)
Still trying to find out more details about the https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis-social-sign-in/
Thank you for this great info.
I am also looking for a free open source plugin for social login and connecting etc.
The paid ones are too much to afford at this time.
I will research these two a bit more:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-fb-autoconnect/
Is it ok to launch your primary site as a BP/WPMultisite social network first and once everything is working well, then we can add other BP networks “later” with unique domains using BP-Multi-Network and Networks+ plugins?
Will that be ok or will that cause issues?
Please advise.
“Social Login” is based on LoginRadius.com and is ridiculously Expensive.
They have limits of users also. 75K users for $149/month and then you have to contact them if you exceed 75k limit and they will custom quote you the price.
They are like paying another hosting company…….not for you if you don’t have a huge budget.
Is there any other less expensive solution?
We are in the process of launching lots of independent network sites using single install of BP/WPMultisite and have already bought hosting, theme etc. All the sites will have their own unique domains but will share the user base. I am also going to use BP-Multi-network and Networks+ plugin.
But my host WPEngine just warned/advised that they have activated wildcard for subdomains but it may cause problems.
So what does it mean?
If my primary site is for example: MyDomain.com
And the other sites on the same install are My2ndDomain.com and My3rdDomain.com and so on……
Can I have the following withOUT any problems:
Subdomain1.MyDomain.com
Dancing.MyDomain.comSubdomain1.My2ndDomain.com
Dancing.My2ndDomain.comSubdomain1.My3rdDomain.com
Dancing.My3rdDomain.comThank you.
Thank you for posting the links…..good helpful info for me to learn and understand what are all the differences. I will get the networks+ plugin.
After reading thru all info, this is what I plan to use for our network of BP networks:
* X2 theme from themekraft
* https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/
* http://wpebooks.com/networks/I plan to host the sites on WPEngine using their ‘professional plan’ that allows multisite hosting with up to 10 WP installs. Hopefully that should be good to start up because there won’t be much traffic in the first few months.
Thank you again!
I was thinking exactly the opposite. Thanks for clarifying the differences between both the plugins.
I want to have different domains with different sites/groups/activities/forums etc but I want to share the users among all the different networks i.e. once a user signs up, then he/she should be able to login and use any of the BP network site in the entire network.So I basically need https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/
I just checked the plugin page and it says: Segregate your BP networks in a multi-network WP install.
Requires BuddyPress 1.5 or greater.This plugin segregates BuddyPress social networks in a multi network WordPress install so that each WP network has a different social network. The user base is still shared across the WP install.
Multiple WP networks can be created with either:
WP Multi Network
Networks+
Q: Does this mean I need to install “WP Multi Network” along with “BP-Multi-Network” plugin?
If yes, which one first and which one 2nd to install?Thank you Toby.
Thanks……I am looking forward to developing my first BP site using it.
Have you tried this plugin:
http://buddydev.com/plugins/buddypress-multi-network/
I hope I am posting a relevant answer because I am a newbie when it comes to BP knowledge.
Checking out your suggestions now.
Thank you for the help.@modemlooper Thank you for your response.
Any idea about when BP 1.7 is coming?
Actually I am in a hurry and want to have the site(s) online within a week or so.
The sites don’t have to be fancy but need to be launched soon. I thought of choosing social theme because I am afraid of making lots of changes again if I choose a different theme later.“BuddyPress 1.7 is coming soon and will work on any WordPress theme. If you are not in a hurry you might want to choose a responsive WordPress theme”
Are you saying that all the regular wordpress themes will work fine with buddypress/multisite/multi-network environment when BP 1.7 comes?
Are there any BP responsive themes that I can choose from at this moment?
Please advise. Thank you.
Thank you for the link. I am currently checking it out.
Hi again,
I am almost ready to go ahead with the buddypress multi-network project as mentioned above.
I need some recommendations for:
* selecting a host
* what themes are great (paid or free etc) for the buddypress multi-network projectAlso some tips on starting such as:
* install wordpress
* now enable multi-site
* now install buddypress
* now install multi-network plugin etc etc.I don’t know if the above order is even correct so looking for some help on how to do it.
Thank you for your help.
Thank you very much for your detailed response.
We want to keep complaints totally public.The buddypress multi-network plugin looks great.
I think the author is going to soon update it to BP 1.6 version.Thank you again.
