Thanks, looks interesting!
In reply to: Interactive Profile Fields During RegistrationThis looks like the exact kind of thing that I could do with.
I have a site for actors where actors can network.
So that the profiles are uniform and can be searchable, I HAVE to set many fields as required.
I don’t want people signing up with incomplete profiles as it looks bad, so I have to have required fields.
I want to now enable industry businesses like photographers etc to sign up, and they will need a business profile.
The profile can be the same fields for all business that sign up, (they can select a business type as the first drop down) but the business profiles will obviously require different fields to the actors.
I’ll need things like business name, an about us text field, web address and contact info.
Would this plugin be suitable for that?
Any guidance on how this would be possible would be great!
Ross

Tracked thsi down to 2 plugins guys.
Web Purify Profanity Filter and Under Construction.
2 plugins that seem to double page load time on the activity stream.
Deactivated and now cut page time down from 4.5 seconds to 1.3 seconds.
Will try and let the authors know.
In reply to: oembed in BP 1.5 activity stream – is this a bug?Hey Paul, thanks for that.
Just seems members will normally place links in the midst of text, thus not everything is going to get embedded.
You can place a link anywhere in text on Facebook etc and it detects it.
It’s no great problem, but it;s cooler to show embedded stuf, rather than links.
You can see the behaviour in my post above.
One embeds, one doesn’t, yet the difference is tiny in how it is written.
Do you think it’s worth me posting it to the WordPress guys?
Hey Boone,
I use (BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR) and am getting MASSIVE avatars in the toolbar when a person hasn’t uploaded an image and the avatar defaults to mystery man. (doesn’t seem to resize properly)
This happens in a not so big way with gravatars too.
Do I put a bug i, or are you guys aware of this?
Hey Oz,
You don’t have a problem pal, that’s totally normal.
It just means that the BB Press forums will use their default styling, nothing fancy from your theme.
there are templates out there to dress up BB Press forums to make them look a little nicer, but if your theme doesn’t contain any, BB Press will just use the default styling.
You don’t have anything to worry about!
In reply to: What Can Cause A User To Be Marked As A Spammer?Any ideas on this? Can WP automatically mark people as spammers?
Yep, I’ve also noticed this. I expect there is a very easy way to fix this.
Gonna talk to my developer now and will report back.
If anyone has an idea in the meantime, let me know!
@boonebgorges Nice one Boone.
I’m not a developer, but I’ll gladly donate to have it put together.
I’ll open a ticket and thanks again.
Sorry to put you through all of the screencasts, but I find it so much easier than writing it all down!

I’ve done a screencast to illustrate this point a little better.
Does anyone agree that the required profile field behaviour should revert back to how it behaved pre BP 1.5?
Would love to hear opinions as this may affect other plugins for people.
Nice! Glad we figured this out! Nice work team!

Now I just need to find out why blog comments aren’t showing up in my stream!

Hey Boone, there is no other meta data in the picture from what I can see.
I have tried it on one more install and done you a screencast to show you exactly how I recreate it.
Hope it helps!
I can definitely recreate this on 3 installs now, the latest being a vanilla install of just WP and BP
Here is what you do.
-Create a new post
-before typing any text, insert a picture and give it a caption
-you can type anything you want now and then publish the postBasically the picture has to come at the start of the post, so that the [/caption] shortcode is within the character limit of the excerpt.
If you have a post with a picture further down the post, it will be outside of the excerpt character length and you will be okay.
If you want me to make a screen cast, let me know and I’ll knock one up to show you.
As long as your picture is at the top of the post, you’ll 100% see what I mean.
Let me know dude

@boonebgorges pretty sure this is a bit of a bug, unless it’s my server set up. I’ve tried it again on a different blog and it happens.
Any luck replicating it yourself?
Posts that are just text and have no picture are fine when first published or updated. It’s posts that have a picture WITH a caption attached to it that suffer from the [/caption] text in the activity stream excerpt.
If you put a picture in the top left of your post, add a caption and publish or update the post, you might see the [/caption] text appear at the start of the excerpt in the activity stream.
Would be great if you could let me know.
Still having problems with blog post comments not appearing either. Need to explore that further.
Cheers Boone, I’ll have a play around and report back.
Would there be a way to stop the bump on new posts?
It’s alright Paul, just checked and JJJ wants BP 1.6 out at the same time as WP 3.3 which is scheduled for November 29th, so just about 6 weeks away!
Great stuff!
Any idea on when BP 1.6 will be scheduled for release Paul?
Can anyone confirm this is happening on their install?
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.5 user fullname save/show errors@boonebgorges I know what configuration is causing this but I don’t know why.
You can recreate this easily by installing a BP version previous to 1.5 (I used 1.2.10).
Alter the base ‘Name’ field to something else. I used ‘Full Name’.
Upgrade to BP 1.5 and you’ll see all of your First and Last names deleted from your DB.
This leaves only the users ‘username’ showing on their profile, set to their ‘display publicly’ name.
If you try editing the name from the front end, as soon as you click save, it reverts back to showing the username.
If you change it in the backend, by re-adding the first and last names, they then show okay, but try changing the name from the front end again and the changes you just made in the back end get deleted and the username displays publicly again, replacing the First/ Last name.
Now to fix this, you have to rename the base ‘Name’ field from your current ‘Full Name’ field back to just ‘Name’.
You can then edit the field in the front end and backend successfully and your changes will save.
You are now free to rename the base ‘Name’ field back to anything you like – again in my case ‘Full Name’ and it will all work again no probs.
It’s as if BP needs clarification when the base ‘Name’ field is anything else but ‘Name’ after an upgrade to BP 1.5.
If you have it set to ‘Full Name’ etc then it won’t play until you have renamed it back to ‘Name’ before changing it again.
I hope that’s kind of clear. I know it’s long winded!
Ross

*** So to avoid this issue, make sure your base ‘Name’ field is labelled as just ‘Name’ before upgrading to BP 1.5.
After that, you can alter it again, but if it’s anything but ‘Name’ on an upgrade, you’ll lose all of your First/ Last name data!
@travel-junkie Cheers Boris, just got around to testing this, and it works a treat without brackets!
Changed 145 rows in under a second! Saved me A LOT OF TIME!
Thanks!
Hahaha, nice one Boris! I’ll test it out!

Hmm… tried this but am told the syntax is wrong
UPDATE [wp_bp_activity]
SET [action] = replace([action],'[admin1]’,'[admin2]’);I’m trying to change all mentions of the admin’s original name, with the new name in the wp_bp_activity table to display the new name in old stream items.
Anything obviously wrong with that?
Does filedname refer to the column the string is found in the DB? That’s what I’ve used.
@travel-junkie Cheers Boris! Gonna have a play around on a test DB to see if I can get this to work!

Any ideas on this people? I see there are strings of SQL to achieve things like this.
