You may have better luck asking the folks at BuddyBoss.
But here is a hint, instead of unset, use the filter: apply_filters( 'bp_rest_group_settings_forum', $fields, $group_id );

Very difficult to diagnose if you cannot recreate the issue.
I have seen that for both members and groups when there is a js conflict – but it is consistent.
Suggestion: Ask them to open the javascript console and send you any errors.
Since you are using the BP Profile Search plugin, you should send your question to Andrea, the creator of that plugin.
You would probably want to use this filter: apply_filters ('bps_request', $request, $type, $form);

Find the template and remove the code that creates that content.
The template is most likely in this folder: buddypress\bp-templates\bp-nouveau\buddypress\groups\single\
Some code on your site is makes the community pages ‘private’ and does a redirect to the home page.
You’ll need to find that code ( theme? plugin? ) and change the target for the redirect.
