In reply to: How can I change the @ usernames in profiles?
So does buddypress usually use the regular wordpress login user name? If a site just uses bbpress and buddypress – people set up an acccount just through wordpress and bbpress/buddypress use that?
Yes and yes.
In reply to: How can I change the @ usernames in profiles?Yikes, afaik, that is not done by BuddyPress.
It looks like you have a plugin or other code that allows emails as user names.
Myguessre the ‘2-2-‘ bits is that more than one user was created with that email.
( Try a test registration using a unique email )
WP dictates that login names have to be unique.BuddyPress uses the login names for @ mentions.
So does bbPress – for example, this forum where your @ mention name is: badusernameSo, again, afaik, it will not be reasonably possible to simplify the @ mention names.
With considerable and complicated customization, it might be possible. In reply to: Infinite Load – Won’t Accept Friend RequestI cannot duplicate your issue re friendships and woocommerce.
Just to be sure re theme issues, try switching momentarily to a WP theme like 2016.
Also try deactivating other plugins and check the issue after each one.
My guess – javascript > ajax is in a loop.
So make sure to turn off any settings ( cache plugin ? ) that minifys javascript. In reply to: Do not get activitiesIf I post “bbp_create_topic”
Do you mean, create a topic or create a reply in bbPress?
And it does not create an item in the BuddyPress activity stream?btw- these are the BuddyPress forums.
The bbPress forums are here and are probably a better place to ask your question. In reply to: How can I change the @ usernames in profiles? You want to change the user name that is used for @ mentions?
afaik, that is not possible, or at least would require considerable customization.
User names in this context are the login names and are unique.Mine are really long for some reason
Why? Do you have some custom code that handles registration?
In reply to: Reversed Search ResultsMean you don’t know how
No, I mean your issue is not due to BuddyPress.
It is due to the plugin that you are using for member searches.
Again, you should ask the creators of that plugin.members/bps-form-home – located in: /buddypress/
No, it is located in the additional code that you have added to buddypress.
Are you using the BP Profile Search plugin?
Go to the wp-admin area for your site.
On the left side, you should see a link to Plugins.
Click on that link and then you should see a list of the plugins on your site.
Look for the BP Profile Search plugin.
If you find it, then you know who to contact with your question. In reply to: Reversed Search ResultsBuddyPress does not include the code for those kinds of searches.
Please ask the support staff for your theme or for the plugin that handles your searches. Please ask the support staff for the rtMedia plugin.
In reply to: Check unread notificationDid you look at the class in the codebase?
The$is_newargument defaults to true, meaning only unread notifications are returned.By the way – using 2 output buffers in that loop is unnecessary.
In reply to: What plugin do I need to work with BuddyPresssYou’ll need to look at paid membership plugins.
There are some free versions in the WP repo.afaik, when that hook runs, the user is not logged in yet. Try using a login hook, like
login_redirect.
btw – try to use BP functions, especially if you plan to distribute your code.
wp_redirect( bp_loggedin_user_domain() . '/profile/edit/group/1/' );The default component constant applies to all visitors. Visitors and other members cannot edit the profile fields of another user.
In reply to: Forced to DeactivateJust a guess… Try:
1. Change the title and the slug of ‘the page about membership benefits’.
2. Go to Settings > Buddypress > Pages and make sure that you have not assigned ‘the page about membership benefits’ to any BuddyPress components. In reply to: “Add Friend” won’t ever changeOK… Maybe not a string. A Word then perhaps?
A word is a string.
A string is a type of variable – text – example: unfriend
An integer is a type of variable without a decimal point – number – example: 33
A float is a type of variable – number with a decimal point – example: 45.67Again – the string ‘unfriend’ is not coming from BuddyPress – unless you have edited it.
In reply to: “Add Friend” won’t ever change‘Unfriend’ is not a BuddyPress string, as you can see by searching the codebase.
In reply to: How to specify an ID with “bp_has_activities”Activity items are not posts.
Use the proper function:bp_has_activities().
Look it up to find out how to pass in an array of arguments. In reply to: Send buddypress notification to WhatsappI’m not aware of any such plugin.
If whatsapp has an API for receiving 3rd party notifications, then you could write a plugin. In reply to: trying to change font size in forumDid you try asking on the support forum for bbPress ?
Most browsers have an inspection tool that gives you info about css and files. Right click on the page area and select ‘inspect’.
In reply to: Error (rtmedia Activity) pluginThis is not the support forum for rtmedia. You should ask their support team about your issue.
But my $0.02:
The errors refer to the PHP memory size, which is set in your php ini file. Ask your hosting provider about this number and how to change it. The recommended minimum for that number, for a WP install, is 128 MB. And for rtmedia, it may be 256 MB.
Increasing the WP_MEMORY_LIMIT is just an internal limit in WP – it does not increase the memory size used by PHP. And in general, you should not use or rely on WP_MEMORY_LIMIT.
So remove the WP_MEMORY_LIMIT setting. And increase the memory available for PHP.
In reply to: profile picturePlease do not double post. Your other post has been deleted.
Please test on mobile with a WP theme like 2016.
If the issue persists, we will try to confirm it.
If the issue does not persist – please contact the creators of your theme. In reply to: profile pictureDoes the profile picture appear properly when not on the mobile site?
If so, then you need to talk to the creators of your theme – BuddyPress does not show ’round’ avatars. You could look in the database for the names of those activity types.
You could ask on the support forum for bbPress. In reply to: Avatar not appearing after uploadif I do it on the User Screen through the Admin page it works fine…but my Users won’t have that option.
That tells you there is something happening on the front end.
I’ll bet it will work if you deactivate any ‘lazy’ loader plugin or code. ( jetpack ? )
And / or any ‘minify’ plugin or code that is affecting javascript.I am using a theme now that is tested with BuddyPress
Sez who? The theme creators? Always check by momentarily switching to a WP theme like 2016.
In reply to: Avatar not appearing after uploadYou need to narrow down the possible sources of the issue.
Have you tried in with a WP theme like 2016 ?
Do you have the same issue with avatars on your member profile screen?
Have you checked your browser’s javascript console for errors? This is a good place to check for conflicts with other plugins. In reply to: Buddypress skeleton componentIt could work.
Especially as a learning path, given that BP Docs is quite a large and elaborate component.
But sometimes that approach takes longer than just starting from scratch. Please use the
codebutton when posting code.If you are asking for the location of the
bp_has_activitiesfunction, it is in this file:
buddypress\bp-activity\bp-activity-template.phpYou can find the location of a function by searching for them via your code editor.
Or by using google and entering the name of the function.
