Both of these were powerful tools for me as a moderator.
And indispensable as a user!
Link to forum thread post item in Activity Stream should link to actual post. I’ve done this on my own site by adding an id to the a:link with post-(post#). Needs to be pagination-aware, too, of course.
I’m finding the shade of light blue chosen for a:link to be really, really eyestrainy on the #888 backgrounds especially, at least on my CRT here at home.
In reply to: Feature/plugin request – RSS to Group WireGuess I’m just lucky, this time. I’ve got multiple RSS feeds on several different groups, with no duplication (although that issue did occur with earlier versions).
This version is clearly not quite fully baked, but it’s definitely a step along the path. I made dozens of changes to it yesterday, but then figured that it was probably pointless and I ought to wait for a few more iterations.
I kinda wish Dfa would drop back in to the thread and let us know more about his plans, though.
In reply to: Changing the number of topics on forum home pageTry
<?php if ( bp_has_forum_topics( "per_page=5&".bp_ajax_querystring( 'forums' ) ) ) : ?>in forums-loop.php
In reply to: Seo for Buddypress 1.0 betaNewest beta fixes forum threads returning title of thread rather than most recently updated one. Yay!
But introduces a new bug, for me, on a non-standard setup. I’ve got the forums as my front page. The way I’m doing it is by creating a new Page in the dashboard, using a custom template that consists of the normal template code for the forums index, and selecting that page in Settings—>Reading to be the home page for the site.
Oddly, the title for that page (which is the index page of the main site now, and renders the forums list) is now ‘Blog’. The title of the actual WP page in question is ‘Discussions’ which I thought it would pick up, at least.
It worked fine with the earlier version (1.0.7?)
Also, confirming greg’s problem with blog creation — it just boots me back to /blogs/create/ when I hit the “Create Blog” button. This is using 1.0.9 beta.
In reply to: Avatar database storeComments list where? Avatars should be showing pretty much everywhere you can make a comment in Buddypress itself. Make sure you have avatars enabled in the dashboard in Settings–>Discussion for the main blog and any hosted blogs you wish to have avatars visible for.
In reply to: enable theme 1.2 sitewideThis is the stone-knives-and-bearskins approach, but you *could* do it by hand (or use some SQL) by going in to the database and doing it directly.
User blogs for WPMU are in sets of db tables as wp_#_tablename, where # is 1 (the main BP site), 2, 3, 4 and so on for each blog and tablename is the name of the table in question.
Tables called wp_#_options (again, where # is 2, 3, 4 and so on) have a row in the column option_name with the value current_theme, and with the value in the option_value column being the name of the theme used for that blog.
You could either go into each one by hand (very suboptimal with 200+ blogs to fix) and edit that field to be the name of your child theme you want use, or run an SQL update query (which I am underqualified to attempt to write for you) to do it quick-like.
Disclaimer: I may be wrong about this — it might be more complicated than that. But failing a better solution, it might be work a shot.
In reply to: Plugin Release: Default Blog OptionsNice, thanks. Will have a look — the previous version was causing some issues for me (which I have since forgotten). Will report back if I find any problems with the new one…
For those who are also not getting a navigation item, a temporary workaround:
Edit your header.php in your child theme, and add
<?php if ( bp_is_active( 'events' ) && bp_core_is_multisite() ) : ?>
<li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_EVENTS_SLUG ) ) : ?> class="selected"<?php endif; ?>>
<a href="<?php echo site_url() ?>/<?php echo BP_EVENTS_SLUG ?>/" title="<?php _e( 'Events', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Events', 'buddypress' ) ?></a>
</li>
<?php endif; ?>to the #nav ul.

Heh. I was having a hell of a time trying to post more in this thread yesterday, too. Now I forget all the notes I had taken.
Functionality:
If a user is not member of a Group, but are invited to an event attached to that Group, they’ll get an invite to the Group but no invite to the event. That might be intended, but just in case. This also means that any friend of the Group creator can be invited to an Event attached to a Group, even if they don’t belong to the Group.
Optimal functionality would, I think, be the ability to just override the filter that shows us who we can invite (ie don’t filter to friends, user-choice on the fly). If someone is invited to a Group-attached event, then optimally, they’d receive an invite to the Group and an invite to the Event if they don’t already belong to the Group.
Another thought. I’d probably add the event meta info for a single event above the navigation ‘fold’, like in single Group view.
More testing and fiddling underway: functionality is looking pretty solid so far!
Don’t take these notes as criticisms — it’s always good to have more eyes looking at something, I find, to help tweak stuff. I know this is an early release — just throwing out thoughts as they occur to me..
Hmm. Also no navigation item for me in my child theme after site-wide activation.
I can use the admin bar menus to get to it, or via my profile, though, or by typing in the /events URL.
Event creation works fine. Some CSS issues, but easily tweaked for my dark child theme.
Looking good — I’ll have a look and try and figure out what’s up with the navigation — I’m using a non-standard front page (forums rather than Activity or Posts or a WP page).
Couple of (minor, styling) notes:
1. Needs a <div class=”padder”> in /events/directories/index.php after the content div.
2. (edit) Sidebar needs a padder class too in that file, it looks like, and the H3’s need class=”widgettitle” on them.
In reply to: Footer content appears in sidebarThat’s what I was about to say — it’s almost always an unclosed <div>. Hate when that happens!
In reply to: New Facebook LikeNah, I just don’t like Facebook.

Carry on!
In reply to: Make Comment Form QuickTags work with BuddyPressHeh. That’s exactly what I did here, except by I did it by hand. Wish I’d known the plugin existed!
I used it for forums, of course, and you can too, if you do similar edits to:
forums/index.php
groups/single/forum.php
groups/single/forum/edit.php
groups/single/forum/topic.php
in your child theme, so it survives future upgrades.
In reply to: New Facebook LikeA separate iframe for every single item in the activity stream seems a little… suboptimal.
Will test this afternoon, with thanks!
In reply to: Feature/plugin request – RSS to Group WireOld topic — there isn’t even a wire anymore.
For my part, the newest versions of both of Andy’s plugins on the latest BP 1.2.x work fine, with the duplicates issue long since solved.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BP Advanced SEOCompetition is healthy. Thanks for releasing this.
SEO is not on my list of priorities — all I really want is fine-grained control of page titles (forum threads in particular) for my users’ multitab browsing convenience. Waiting on Sven’s next beta of his SEO tool for that, but I’ll have a look at this one, too, with thanks.
Fixed by removing
&& bp_is_page( BP_FORUMS_SLUG )from line 60.
Not sure if that’s a smart fix or not, but it works for the moment anyway!
I reckon the best currently-out-there fancy tooltip library in terms of flexibility and completeness is jquery qtips (http://craigsworks.com/projects/qtip/), but that’s just me!
None, as yet!
I think I found a bug — the indicators don’t seem to be working properly in the /root/groups/groupname/forum/ listing of threads, just on the main forums list (at least for me)…
Working flawlessly so far. Logging out, posting as a testuser, logging back in, thread’s marked new.
If there’s no major performance impact involved, I think we’re good!
Also, I’m using the famfamfam icons (black and yellow bullets) instead for the moment because my child theme is a dark one with yellow highlights. Looking nice, may or may not go with pure css for read/unread.
Thanks again for this — it was a user request literally just a few days ago.
