In reply to: 1.1.x Compatible Themes@profitsbuzz – try the updated forums that ship with bp 1.1+ because they’re a bit better than the previous version (and very easy to install). otherwise, you can try your luck with the simplepress plugin.
In reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme Released@r-a-y thanks man
only a few more days left until the big plunge, so that’s why i almost got a heart attack when i saw this long thread, haha!
In reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme Released@erich – i’m not sure if there’s a plugin for that. mine was just a simple hack of assigning every other comment a different class, so that i could style it differently. this would work sitewide as long as you keep referencing the comments.php file whereever you display your comments. if you message me your email addy, i can send it over.
In reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme Releasedhey, sorry guys – i’ve been swamped with my wedding and other personal stuff, so big apologies to these unanswered questions and a big ‘thank you’ to DJPaul who stepped in.
so for all of you who want to have the organized, aligned, 3-column homepage a la BP 1.0 style, all you have to do is delete the “layout” folder from the AvenueK9 theme folder (it’s located in avenuek9 >> _inc >> css). it’ll take care of all the widget and alignment issues that have been mentioned here and elsewhere.
also, the slim container issue can be fixed real easily by adding this line “padding: 20px;” to your #container. it’ll be flush with the nav bar and the footer.
if any of you want to have an image logo rather than the h1 text, go ahead and change “display: block;” to “display: none;” in the “#header h1#logo a” element. then, drop in your image tag and play around with “padding-top:” values for “#header”
i’m still running BP 1.0 on my http://members.avenuek9.com, since i haven’t had any time for the upgrade yet, but once life settles down a bit, you can be sure to hear about further improvements to this theme!
also, i’m much faster at responding to messages, so if it’s urgent, you can try that instead.
In reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme ReleasedI actually changed up the homepage slightly from the older 3-column version to reduce it down to a 2-column one, since it gets kinda busy with the filters and all. If you want to have 3 columns, though (I had a request for this yesterday), all you have to do is delete the “layout” folder… just an fyi, anyway
In reply to: New Theme ArchitectureOne general tip that I can give you is to use Firefox’s Firebug (and YSlow if you’re really savvy) development tool. That way, you can just click on the “HTML” tab and figure out just exactly, which section or element you need to adjust. It’s exactly how I made my theme
In reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme ReleasedIn reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme ReleasedThat’s true. One thing that’ll definitely happen relatively *soon* is that I’ll block out my demo site, because I’m thinking of creating another BP 1.1 theme… one that’s a bit more customized that this css/image one. It’s always fun going back to the drawing board, knowing more than what you knew before.
In reply to: NEW Avenue K9 BP 1.1 Theme ReleasedHaha, glad I could help a little
It’s just a little rework of Andy’s default BP theme, so I can’t take too much credit for it.
In reply to: Google maps for xprofileThat is sweeeeeeet man. Yeah, the group map would be a solid addition, and I absolutely love MapPress — totally dig the print directions feature. What would be even neater with your plugin is if the marker was the small bp avatar, which on hover, would display the user name and last time logged in/status update (for the group map), but that’s probably asking for a lot though, haha.

In reply to: Activity Widget Time is off.I’m betting your Timezone is off under General Settings… maybe tinker with that and see if you can get it to display the correct time
In reply to: forums in 1.1perfecto! had one *slight* mistake in that setup … i dumped everything into /plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/ … without the bbpress folder
and yes, it was via zip, lol.
In reply to: forums in 1.1here ya go…

In reply to: Forums in v1.1wah… forums aren’t working for me
running the latest versions on everything — bp 1.1beta, wpmu 2.8.4a, bbpress 1.0.2. everything else is spot on though. wpmu/bp is in the root with directory install. fresh install for everything at michaelkuhlmann.com … no mods, just testing everything before i theme it. any takers? eh? eh?
In reply to: When comes the 1.1?“when it’s done.” lol very true.
you can try trunk… it’s probably as close to 1.1 as you’ll get at this point (https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk)
In reply to: Members Widget ProblemsTry this: Go to your widgets page (WPMU backend), remove your members widget and refresh your homepage (on the front end — best if you have two windows open, side-by-side) until you see that “please log in to add your widgets” wording in your sidebar). Next, add your members widget again (backend) to your sidebar with your desired amount of people and refresh your homepage. Hopefully, that’ll fix it. You might not even have to do all that refresh stuff, but I had the same problem yesterday and it fixed it, so it seems to be some sort of caching thing.
In reply to: can't change email address in general settingscheck your junk/spam mail and see if it landed there. if you’re using mail services like yahoo or aol it may take a while to get in your inbox. i’ve had mail delay by several hours using those services… very rarely, but it happens.
you have to go into the directory to replace that image file for that change or any other tweaks like css changes typically (unless your files are writable).
In reply to: Make width fixed to 900px?yep, you can with some css. the parts you wanna tweak are #header and #main, if i remember correctly. you can also download the Avenue K9 theme from this page https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/ to help you get started, which is optimized for those pesky 1024×768 screens.
In reply to: BuddyPress Showoff: Post your linksFINALLY launched BuddyPress site for AvenueK9.com… http://members.avenuek9.com/ … here’s a lil slideshow about it http://www.avenuek9.com/2009/07/27/sign-up-become-a-k9ner/
In reply to: Deactivating BP plugin returns blank screenResolved. Deleted all plugins. Upgraded to WPMU 2.8.1 and then upgraded to BP 1.0.3 both through the automatic uploader. Re-uploaded all my other plugins again and everything’s all dandy. Only thing that’s a bit quirky is the fact that I’m still being prompted to upgrade to WPMU 2.8.1 and BP 1.0.3 even though I’m already running the latest versions. Weird.
In reply to: BuddyPress Future w/o MVC: Big Deal? That’s exactly why I brought up this topic. Just speaking from my own experience of talking with clients who want a CMS site, virtually all of them initially scough at WordPress because it still, to a large extent, carries the stigma of just being a very good blogging system. And if you wanted to build something more substantial, Joomla would be a better choice — you’ll constantly see that argument in whichever forum, be it Joomla, Drupal or EE. By and large, most clients will reconsider using WP when they’ve seen an amazing site that doesn’t look like your typical Kubrick blog.
So now that Anahita is out in the open, there’s going to be that debate again… and I can just see the client’s pitch for Anahita. “Well, Joomla is more for enterprise sites, so we’d like to run with Anahita instead of WP/BP.” If that’s the case, you could argue to look at the companies using WP and that Anahita requires Nooku and the whole MVC thing is just a moot point. Along the same vein, why not just get rid of that slide that even mentions spaghetti code? Just keep it simple… one is just as good as the other. Yes?
In reply to: BuddyPress Future w/o MVC: Big Deal?I was gonna say… at 3:30 http://blip.tv/file/2335055/. Does it feel more like a friendly competition between Anahita and BP or would you consider those two completely different social networking solutions?
