Thanks for posting @synaptic,
I had read somewhere about the campaign and couldn’t remember where I had seen it. I came here hoping there would be something about it. I’m glad you posted.
IMO, something like this should be known to the community.

Boone Gorges replied to the topic the permalinks issue – another way to look at it in the forum Ideas 10 years, 7 months ago
> the hobbled together mess
Just to push back a little on this one. There are a couple of key ways in which BP’s current permalink router is not ideal (it’s not amenable to caching; it’s not non-pretty-permalink friendly; it’s hard to write unit tests for it; it leaves some slugs difficult to change). Moving toward the WP Rewrite API is a…[Read more]

Henry replied to the topic Optimize by removing blank lines and comments? in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 10 years, 10 months ago
@synaptic not a stupid question – always a good idea to improve performance. That said, removing comments isn’t where you should start.
1. Try minifying your scripts that haven’t already been minified.
2. Run your site through a tool such as tools.pingdom.com to identify all of the unnecessary resources your page is using – and remove them where…[Read more] -

a fragment caching system
I totally agree with you, and would love to see fragment caching in BuddyPress (or more generally in WordPress)
That being said, if WordPress doesn’t include caching in core, it’s highly unlikely that BuddyPress would. If you created a ticket for this in Trac, it would probably quickly be closed as plugin…[Read more]

@synaptic I didn’t realise the auto emails were sent from ‘wordpress’@mydomain so thanks for this!
The code does go into your theme’s functions.php file. This is what I have:

bp-help replied to the topic How to Contribute to BuddyPress if I'm not a programmer? in the forum Requests & Feedback 11 years ago
@synaptic
This may sound a bit off but it is just a suggestion so please do not take it as down playing what you are trying to achieve. Instead of relying on the Dev’s to do the coding for you all the time, try learning something new like how to code. It is possible for you and I personally think people only set their own limits because they are…[Read more] -

+1 Boone.

Boone Gorges replied to the topic How to Contribute to BuddyPress if I'm not a programmer? in the forum Requests & Feedback 11 years ago
@synaptic Thanks for starting this interesting discussion (and for doing it in a more sensible and measured tone than the linked article).
I agree that the current process for selecting and advancing features is not ideal. It is indeed a shame when a ticket like the CPT one gets punted release after release. I’m not sure that I can *justify* it,…[Read more]

@synaptic
I don’t really see why you think custom post types is a BP issue but then again maybe I just need a solid explanation of what benefits it would have towards the BP components. When I said I resolved all of my issues with BP I meant my personal issues and not the worlds! Everyone has different requirements, I have just fixed all of mine. Cheers! -
Ben Hansen replied to the topic How to Contribute to BuddyPress if I'm not a programmer? in the forum Requests & Feedback 11 years ago
@synaptic the development cycle for buddypress has been greatly accelerated in the recent revisions. the whole idea behind that is to foster more features and better functionality at a faster pace. nobody is trying to claim that buddypress is perfect. to the contrary we are saying that if you want to help, please do.

Just wondering if you could supply some feedback. You may want to download and install it again from the same link. I made some minor changes but it really doesn’t add anything more then what I had but they are using me as a test monkey I suppose with the wp plugin review panel. It works great on 4 different installations I…[Read more] -

Guys, thanks you for your responses – very helpful!
See i have a very active web site built in WP (well i will – its just being built). The Community/Forum elements (with BuddyPress and BBPress) will be an integral part of it also. @richardicanie buddypress is designed to be fully integrated with your primary wordpress installation. If you are using multisite then you would network activate buddypress. Be advised that although the various sub sites are part of the buddypress integration for…[Read more]
