    I’ve been looking for a similar solution. What is the difference between free and premium for the rating widget plugin?

    You can try cubepoints plugin or the new myCred.me plugin (which hooks into GD Ratings)

    GD ratings is very complex and allows for importing of data from other rating plugins I think

    I should have added that I’m looking for a rating plugin that works with BP and bbPress of course!

    thanks @tse11 but that’s not what I was asking :).

    I’ve already seen the tutorial you linked to and btw, that tutorial has nothing to do with S2member or the private plugin @bp-help developed so I’m rather confused

    @bp-help can you pls describe what the difference is between your plugin and S2member (the free edition)?

    Not that your plugin isn’t great, I’m just trying to understand things a bit more 🙂

    thanks!

    I suggest you use a plugin like S2member to handle membership and login. Regarding specific theme issues, it is best to contact the creator of the theme, Tiguan on themeforest.net

    Please use English or at least use google translate or babelfish so we know what you’re talking about!

    “Could you help me create a registration form?”

    I believe you can also use membership plugins like S2 (free and premium) or membership (premium) from wpmu to customize the register.php

    @nykess what “other solution”? can you provide the code you used instead?

    thanks

    Hi @darrenmeehan looks interesting. Is this like cubepoints vote it up module? where users can like or vote on posts, comments, etc.? can you provide a screenshot?

    ok, close your eyes and take a deep breath, then take another and relax, this is just a website issue, not life or death

    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/when-asking-for-support-2/

    then write with more clarity, provide screenshots, URL etc. so others can help you

    @synaptic

    @bphelp can you please link to the plugin? Thanks!

    ah, ok so the plot thickens! now why can’t I see my own post then? very strange! I’ve also tried logging out and viewing the thread as well as viewing with another browser with no history of buddypress.com/support

    @richardicanie your response sounds like you got my original message but I can’t see it on this thread (the forum here stopped it from being published and gave me an error when I tried to resubmit it).

    anyway, about the site you mention: http://community.babycentre.co.uk/

    it doesn’t look like they are using wordpress at all. my guess after looking at the source code is that it is drupal

    in the future you can also check with builtwith.com

    moderators: I am unable to respond – I’ve tried several times. There is an error which doesn’t allow my posts to show.

    I’m opening this up again in the hopes that someone who knows something will see it this time:

    I’m looking for a plugin that would allow me to put up a page like this one:
    http://moz.com/invite/signup

    and to collect name/email from those interested in joining as members for my site

    I do NOT want to block off the site from them if they are not members or haven’t joined yet, like so many beta plugins do. For example:

    Review: Closed Beta WordPress Plugin

    I want them to be able to find the site, read it, etc. but not to be able to signup, except for through an invitation request.

    I know there is a plugin called invite anyone, but this is to allow existing users to invite friends to join. I want to be able to accept invitation requests from the public.

    not sure if I understand you correctly but it sounds like something that can be solved with the apache modrewrite module in your .htaccess file

    @aces this may be a dumb Q, why do you need poedit? why can’t you just edit via notepad++ or some other text editor and change, for example:

    line 5560: msgid ” Friendship could not be requested.”

    to

    line 5560: msgid ” Friendship could not be sent.”

    most people get this functionality by installing a membership plugin like S2

    there are many more, just do a search for membership plugin wordpress in the official plugin repository or google

    @bphelp thanks for your feedback, the site isn’t mine, just thought others might benefit

    speaking of spam, what do you think of the sandbox idea I shared here?
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/idea-stopping-spammers-with-sandbox/

    since you have the knowledge and experience writing plugins, can you comment on how feasible it is? could you write it?

    @synaptic

    Thanks @derdzi – can someone please confirm this? also, can you share it with the Yoast SEO wordpress forum so they can respond?

    @ubernaut the scenario you outline is possible. that I can agree with. but I don’t think any reasonable person would respond by ‘leave never to return the interesting but apparently broken site’ if they didn’t immediately see their friend on the site.

    to clarify, the (new) member would be shown and included in the membership directory – if there is one – but their activity would not be for a short time, say 1 day, assuming the admin are active and flag or approve users immediately upon the new user having some activity to flag or approve in the first place

    @synaptic

    @shanebp the very nature of the functionality is that it is *not* explained, the user doesn’t know they are in a sandbox! (like a user being ‘shadow banned’) otherwise the benefit that this would confer is totally erased.

    please explain why would this result in a flurry of support submissions? the new user sees their own activity being reflected on the site, for what reason would they ask for help? they write, comment, etc and it is shown to them on the site as normal, so nothing is wrong as far as they are concerned. except it is only shown to them, not everyone (until the admin approves them and removes them from the sandbox)

    having said that, I do appreciate your feedback and criticism, that is why I shared the idea in the first place, to get some reaction and ideas so we know if this is feasible and perhaps to improve upon the original idea

    @synaptic

    Participant

    @bphelp thanks, I’ll take a look at that plugin but it lacks this specific functionality as you already mentioned

    @shanebp
    how is this ‘too complicated’? I also like using the community to flag spam but that only finds spam after the fact, what if you could ID spammers *before*? wouldn’t that be even more valuable? or why not both?

    @synaptic

    https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

    a theme is a completely different thing than bbpress or buddypress. the theme gives the ‘look’ the bbpress and/or buddypress plugins give the functionality

    @synaptic

    @ubernaut and others, re spam, I would appreciate hearing from the more experienced dev and web masters about the pros and cons of a private membership site.

    By not allowing just anyone to become a member you automatically arrest spam. Of course, you also impede your growth because legitimate users can’t join.

    One way to get around this is to use the great invite anyone plugin and have the original number of ‘seed’ members invite their friends and their friends invite their friends and so on.

    Limited but organic growth in members and a total elimination of spam!

    What do you guys think?
