    Interested in your ideas on only showing groups forums to members on the bbPress side Burt.

    There are many places that you can discuss this that I mentioned above including the wpmu, hackers, wordpress & other lists if you want to further discuss this.

    WPMU forums as well as in the WPMU Advanced Forums as well as on the WPMUDEV Premium Forums

    Unless I am missing something, the only reference in the wp-super-cache for 404’s at all is a simple function that looks at is_404() from WPMU and if it comes up that way, it doesn’t cache it. I have been around this for quite awhile now and can’t seem to put my finger on it. Sure would be great if anyone has any extra input as cache of everything would be ideal :)

    I even tried taking out the template action for this 404 in wp-super-cache and it did work. For several page views it worked caching everything from member pages, groups, etc. Problem is then it became poisoned and any pages served from wp-super-cache failed and gave server errors. I could get around it by disabling wp-super-cache and just using wp-cache, but it has to do with that function itself it seems….

    It is something that I am looking at. I am not sure what is in the “user” feed for videos from phpmotion, but I am it already running and looking at that myself. Without a video RSS feed, it might be difficult!

    I had a ticket in Trac about the feeds not working and somewhere along the way, it started working for me. Andy saw the same thing and closed the ticket today. Are you using the latest SVN as of now? 840 at time of this post. Clear cache if you have it operating! :)

    Found another tip for you all if you have tried everything and it still won’t work….

    If you manage to have done everything and it seems to not work, check your bp_groups_groupmeta table and delete any entries that deal with the forum. Make sure you back things up before doing this though! If an existing entry is there for forums, it won’t allow you to create a new one!

    Best bet is create a ticket for this in https://trac.buddypress.org/ with the login credentials from this forum so that Andy knows he is breaking something again ;)

    There must be someone who is running subfolders on their buddypress that should be able to answer this one! Hopefully someone will chime in for you.

    That is great! I would imagine I will just make the little plugin myself ;) Thanks Burt!

    Seriously it works for you? It works for me on http://onvertigobloggers.com/members/admin/flickr but not on the profile page I linked above. I don’t even get the call for the JS in the page source! !

    These are great issues to bring up on the buddypress mailing list and I encourage you to do it. I do not develop WPMU or Buddypress and these are just my opinions. This is just background information as well. WPMU is known to be extremely server intensive as is.

    Right now, most scaling solutions have been implemented for WPMU and the database structure that is already developed and in place. Mainly, blog sites like wordpress.com and edublogs.org. They have implemented multi-database solutions where the request gets analyzed for the blog hash and directed to the proper database and the connection only occurs to the database that houses that data. Databases can reside on any server in any location.

    Images are also housed in directories created through the blog hash as well. This also allows you to have multiple image directories in multiple locations if you wanted. Some even offload some of their images to 3rd party services like S3.

    At present time, AFAIK, there is no solution for spreading around the buddypress data. It hasn’t been addressed yet.

    I am not going to argue and say this is the most ideal circumstance or setup. There are plenty of discussions on scaling both in the WPMU forums as well as in the WPMU Advanced Forums as well as on the WPMUDEV Premium Forums. Not to mention the WP Hackers list is also a great resource from the real developers and hackers of WP in general.

    Buddypress, like WPMU, are open-source communities and all input is not only welcomed, it is encouraged! Feel free to add anything that you feel would be better. I am sure Andy is welcome to hearing all feedback if you know a better way to do something.

    My previous comment on this topic was purely my opinion on how the current setup could be scaled based on my experience with already ongoing projects. Right or wrong, it is just my opinion.

    It really isn’t that hard to believe since the plugin is creating 3 tables for every user when WPMU creates 8 tables for every single blog right now. It makes perfect sense from a scaling point of view because there are already solutions to split the information from WPMU across multiple databases and something in the works for scaling BP information as well.

    There are multiple installs of WPMU right now having to use multiple servers to run their installations and a large BP site might have to do the same if it is busy enough. Having the data in just a few tables doesn’t allow scaling and puts limits on something that doesn’t have to have any. 50,000 users information in a couple of tables is not the best solution. I would rather have those 50,000 users spread across 4000 databases so that you are scanning for 12.5 users per database. Even better would be those 50,000 users over 256 databases. With 4000+ databases you can have millions of users ;)

    The only blog that should be using the buddypress-home theme is the main blog. All other blogs can use whatever theme the users usually want if they are installed. I am getting the impression that you deleted the “default” folder out of /wp-content/themes/ and that is what is causing you issues.

    No plugins running other than BP on that install that I am testing this out on. Only JS loading is the standard WP one as well as BP stuff:

    /wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.2.6
    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/js/jquery/jquery.livequery.pack.js?ver=2.7
    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/js/widget-members.js?ver=2.7
    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-groups/js/widget-groups.js?ver=2.7
    /wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/js/general.js?ver=2.7

    Not sure why is works calling all these same scripts on flickr page and not on this one. In this case, it isn’t even putting the call onto the page. What is the add_action that puts it on the profile page anyways?

    JS is not loading for me on the profile page at all. It is loading like such on the actual flickr page though:

    <!--BPDEV-FLICKR PLUGIN LOAD STYLE&CSS START-->
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/wp-content/mu-plugins/bpdev-flickr/js/prototype.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/wp-content/mu-plugins/bpdev-flickr/js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/wp-content/mu-plugins/bpdev-flickr/js/lightbox.js"></script>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="/wp-content/mu-plugins/bpdev-flickr/css/lightbox.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <!--BPDEV-FLICKR PLUGIN LOAD STYLE&CSS STOP -->

    Lightbox not working on main profile….guess I better check if it is loading the js on that page or not. No other plugins.

    I would also check to make sure that you didn’t get any SQL errors by checking your apache log. If you have access to the DB, find out if the bp_wire_ tables were created and if they have any information in them.

    @sdq80 I would be interested in your hacks as well. There might be a way to put it in as a plugin if you share your code.

    Thanks,

    That is a very good question! Never run across anyone that tried it, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work since the hardcoding for site “1” is all gone now. Short of testing it out, I am not sure if anyone has an answer. I might get a chance to test this out later today though. If you test it out, let us know.

    I would try uploading the image again as it isn’t showing up correctly anyways. Even though it is the same size, something went wrong somewhere along the way….

    On surface, it looks like the image and not the theme coding since all you did was overwrite the original image

    This topic might get more attention if you post it in the WPMU forums as it isn’t a buddypress related issue.
