In reply to: How restrict the create group for one user
In WordPress each user role has a number of assigned capabilities, I’m looking for you to tell me a capability that the Member has that the visitor does not.
In reply to: Create a new Extended Profile (xProfile) field typePossibly a good template plugin would be https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-xprofile-rich-text-field/ it’s got the filters and actions you’d need. It’s not straightforward, you’d need to extend the BP xProfile Field Type class in order to have it as part of the xProfile field type collection by the looks of things. I agree it would be nice to have it documented but we have what we have. Maybe one of you can strip down one of these plugins and write it up for the rest of us?
The other option is to ask either of the collection plugins to add your type to their collection?
In reply to: How restrict the create group for one user1. Go to Roles in the Dashboard.
1. Inspect the roles assigned to the role that is the default for new sign-ups.
2. Inspect the roles assigned to Members and find one that is not assinged to your default users.
Tell me what that is.
In reply to: How restrict the create group for one userMember is not part of WordPress’s default roles, so you must have created this using the user role editor you posted the link to. When you did that, you must have added some extra capabilities above the default subscriber, it’s one of those extra capabilities that we need.
In reply to: How restrict the create group for one userWithout knowing what capability to filter on it would not work, that’s the basic thing we need.
In reply to: How restrict the create group for one userAh good, you are using a user role editor, that should make this easy, simply find a role that the member has that the other users do not, that could be publish-posts or similar. Then you would add that as the capability required.
You could work out a code snippet to do this, but you would still need to know the capability to filter on.
In reply to: How restrict the create group for one userI’m pretty sure we can get it to work for you. What you need to work out is a capability level that your chosen role has that the other roles to not, set that as the restriction in the form and save it.
Which role do you wish to allow group creation for?
In reply to: How restrict the create group for one userI’ve a plugin for that: https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-restrict-group-creation/
The first question is if you have overloaded any template files? These would be located in
themes/your-child-theme/buddypressIf you have files in directories in there then switching the BP Theme could cause errors.
If not then it’s worth switching to Legacy just to see if it works. However that’s not really solving the issue and if you are getting JS errors the same errors could stop the Legacy theme from working too.
Nouveau is the latest BP Theme ans it came with extra customisation options in Customizer but if you have not used these then there’s very little difference between the two theme views.
Might be worth letting me know what those error are so I can advise further. The other option would be to deactivate all of your other plugins and see if that fixes the problem but it’s a bit longwinded if you have some errors – better to address those first.
That’s interesting, with the LEgacy theme you have to enter the name without the @ but with Nouveau you have to enter the @ for the autocomplete to work. But either way on my test system both autocompletes work.
If you right click on the page, select Inspect Element and choose Console are you seeing any JavaScript errors?
If you look in Settings>>BuddyPress>>Options you can see which template is configured, it’s either Legacy or Nouveau.
Can I confirm which BP Template you are using? is it BP Nouveau?
Hi there, if you miss the @ off the start of the name it will autofill for you
In reply to: Create a new Extended Profile (xProfile) field typeThere’s a few plugins that add extra field types, for example – https://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-xprofile-custom-field-types/ I’d take a look at these and see how they do it?
In reply to: Formating the slidersPresumably that’s a feature of Learndash then
In reply to: Formating the slidersI think you are talking about something not added by BuddyPress. You need to refer this to the specific plugin developer in question.
In reply to: Formating the slidersHi there, Which sliders would these be?
In reply to: Image attachments not retaining transparencyHi there,
It won’t be BP, image handling in BP is usually added by a plugin such as MediaPress or RTMedia.
In reply to: Fan Page or group rvert to fan page ?!OK it’s live now: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-fan-page/
That’s strange, I’ve just tested it an it works for me.
In reply to: Fan Page or group rvert to fan page ?!We’ve had a few requests for Fan Page functionality recently so I took a look at the announce group code to see what changes could be made to turn it into a fan page plugin. Other than changing the name to fan page I also noted that it did not prevent group members from creating new topics in the forum so I’ve forked the plugin and added those changes. Hopefully that will deliver something like what you are looking for. I’ll submit it to WordPress.org and let you know once it’s live.
Looks like that would be buddypress/groups/single/members-loop.php.
this line:
<?php if ( bp_group_has_members( bp_ajax_querystring( 'group_members' ) ) ) : ?>Would be the one to change:
<?php if ( bp_group_has_members( bp_ajax_querystring( 'group_members' ) . '&type=alphabetical' ) ) : ?>Hopefully that should work
In reply to: Fan Page or group rvert to fan page ?!There’s a plugin the converts a group to announce only, maybe that could be the basis of a fan page?
In reply to: Posts not syncingBuddyPress does not manage what happens to posts when a user is deleted, I think that’s a WordPress function.
