Trouble is other then the lack of buddypress support I really like my theme, I guess that’s always going to be an issue unless I can find an alternative that has the right look and feel. None of those that were listed for example seem to support a header image, which I find is desirable. Also, they tend to be a bit too buddypress centric as far as I can see.

@paulgibbs that gives me a related idea, there could be an @friends context sensitive broadcast that could be made from the users compose area to send an email to all that members friends. I think both @group inside the group and @friends from the profile compose are good and related ideas.

@henrywright I’d be happy to Beta test for you.

Not really, there is already the sitewide message feature so this is minor compared to that.

@Henry, the plugin would need to add text to the group to show such a command is available to users.

I think ideally from within each group there would be a link to message all group members, and that there would be an option for the group admin to disable this for non admins.

I agree @group runs the risk of someone having that name, unless there was a special prefix to use, ie @Group groupname

I’m not aware of any plugins that would let you do this. Maybe someone could suggest some code.

Are there any Themes that show these lists as grids?

Have you tried unloading your other plugins to see if it’s a conflict? It should work so it looks like something is interfering with normal operation.

I think the idea is that the Username is the unique reference point for each user and this is used for messaging too, hence @Username. One the other hand the display name can be anything and multiple users can have the same display name.

I’ve got Mediapress loaded on my test server, it seems to work but you need to make sure you have the latest version as it’s currently changing daily. I can only suggest it is one of two things:

    1. A Plugin conflict of some sort
    2. A Memory issue, are you close to running out of memory? Could the size of the image have a bearing on the process succeeding or not?

Yeah I’m not aware of any that integrate with Buddypress, all of them seem to be their own variants on WordPress.

With Mediapress you need to save the settings at least once in order to get it to activate.

After that you need to set a Gallery page in the Buddypress page settings.

With that completed, users can create their own galleries and group admins can choose to have their own galleries too.

Mediapress is still in Beta and changes pretty much daily so be sure you have the latest download.

There are some premium content plugins that do this, one I was looking at is WP Customer Area, this gives you the option of having individual pages private to a particular user. you could look at that.

Maybe you could ask on the WordPress Forums? This is more a wordpress issue than Buddypress.

I know in the theme I am using I can create a secondary menu bar, and using a plugin I can hide the contents of this from my logged out users. Does your theme allow this?

Otherwise I’m not sure how you would create this second menu without coding, I can’t see any plugins that would do that.

Which plugin are you using for the pictures?

    @venutius

Yes mine does too, not sure this can be changed

Think that option may depend on the theme that you are using having the option for a second menu bar.

Another way of doing that would be to add all of the items to the one menu bar, then set half the items to be viewed only by non-logged in users and half the items viewable by logged in users only

Think you need to raise this with the plugin forum

I’m not exactly sure what you are asking, but if you want to hide menu items from non-logged in users then have a look at WPFront User Role Editor, it adds that option.

Thanks for answering, I’ve sorted it, I googled my requirement and found out how to edit the .pot file.

This seems to be part of the way Buddypress works, you can’t change your login name and this is the name it uses for messaging, hence the @name issue you mention. it means that users can get pretty confused if people change their display name.

I’m not aware of anyway to change this.

Try using the Buddypress Registration Options plug in, I use this and it sends me an email once when they first register and then another once they have activated their account.

You could set the to be private pages and give your member the ability to view private pages using WPFront?

In the Buddypress pages setting, try setting the activity stream to point to your “Activity” page, that should work, you should then see all the activity on that page.
