Gigya is a wonderful plugin… the only problem i see is the profile photo is not linked… everything else is super stable.
anybody know any idea for linking profile photo?
does this work fully with BuddyPress?
ie, I know i can login, but can I then view my buddypress profile and edit etc?
Has anybody got the problem with the profile photo is not linking using Gigya fixed?
Gigya has some great (stable) plugins it would be nice to see this adjusted for BP. It sort of works. It will get them logged in, but its setup for WP so everything goes to the WP profile pages and not BP. I would say moding this would be ,much easier than try to make a stable version from scratch.

I haven’t heavily tested Gigya yet, but it seems to work “out of the box” with buddypress. The lack of facebook photo seems to be the only real downside to it. While that’s not a show stopper, it would be nice if that could be fixed. I unfortunately don’t know the facebook API from adam – can anyone give us hints on where to start?
That would be good to fix the facebook photo issue… then you have more login options!
No, you wouldn’t – it already works with facebook. It’s just not the best integration if the user logs in with facebook but instead of seeing their flattering facebook profile picture, they see a random and crudely drawn “wackytar” (or whatever these default wp/bp avatars are called)
Maybe a developer like Peter Hofman could look into this or somebody! Does this plugin give the user all BP features!
Yes, it simply creates a wp/bp account linked to that user’s facebook profile, so there is no difference in terms of the features users can access.
Not to speak for Peter but I would guess he’s primarily interested in getting his “post to” plugins for facebook, twitter, and linkedin to the point where they are stable. Though he probably does know the facebook API well enough to say “you would need to do x y and z ” to modify the gigya code to pull over the avatar.
This ultimately should be on gigya to fix – I don’t think their wp plugin has been updated in a long while.

I agree with @dennis_h,

If this plugin would let you map FB profile info into xprofile fields, it would be exceedingly useful.

Well when i use gigya with wordperss 2.9.2 and buddypress 1.2.3 there is a problem with the activity stream and the users login with gigya. In the activity streams it shows only that a user make all the comments, made by other users in entries. This only happens with the users that are connected through gigya. And i tried to desactivate all the plugins and the problem is in fact the gigya plugin.
Maybe we should look into this issue because FB is stopping FB connect very soon.
Well I send an email to gigya support, they answer me that they would help, they asked this:
“Can you or anyone else from your team help debug the BuddyPress to figure out which user ID/User name is saved per action?
Is there a place we can see this in action?”
Im looking through the code now, but anyone know where the specific action is?
I think I got it… in bp-blogs in line 417 inside the function bp_blogs_record_comments
They get the user id using the email of the author:
“$user = get_user_by_email( $comment->comment_author_email );”
And when a user login using gigya, the email isnt record, so probably thats the problem. Any one know how to change this line to get the user id in another way?
i just can’t get this to work right. anyone succeeded yet?
anyone succeeded yet? i’m failing.
@claud925, did Gigya get back to you about the activity stream stuff? (Or, by chance, profile pics?)
Yeah, so I’m bumping an 11 month old post. But if anyone has done a Gigya + WordPress/BuddyPress integration, I’d love to talk to you about any lessons learnt, etc.
Timely… I’m about to embark a project that might use Gigya as well. I’ve seen some sites use Janrain Engage as well.
