Combine /user & /user/profile pages?

Right now when you go to the members page and click on a profile, it goes to members/USERNAME but I would like EITHER to:
a) have it go to members/USERNAME/profile
OR
b) combine the information from these 2 pages
Are either of these possible? Thank you

Don’t you think this would throw people off? You add friends by searching the members directory. How else would one determine if they want to be friends with this other person?
Answer to b) I have a plugin that will add data to the members directory.
