    We have so many talented, engaged developers here. What I don’t understand is why someone with the skills doesn’t just pick this thing up and run with it. It’s clear that this new, barely-working port to BP 1.2.x isn’t what we’ve been waiting for, and not a peep from the fellow responsible (RESPECK KNUCKLES for going that far, at least) since doesn’t instill confidence.

    As I’ve said so many times before, if I had the skills, I’d do it, but I don’t. Dozens if not hundreds of people here do, though, and are active in the BPDev community. Fork the code, move it forward, and you’ll be a damned hero!

    I am taking another look at SocialEngine. It’s a more expensive solution for sure but it has a complete feature set. I will wait and see what their new release (V4) looks like.

    Maybe you will find this info from the Google SoC site interesting @derekbolden:

    Student Name: Kunal Bhalla
    Mentor Name: John Jacoby
    Title: Events Plugin for WordPress and BuddyPress
    Abstract: Events have become an integral part of Social Networking; this plugin would also be useful for WordCamp.org – allowing people to handle WordCamp registration through the WordCamp site itself, etc.

    This plugin will provide basic event functionality for plain vanilla WordPress installs and enhanced capabilities for BuddyPress installs by leveraging the new WordPress Custom post types and moving on from that.

    @derekbolden

    Somebody? Anybody? Come on guys/ gals this really stinks! If I knew PHP I would do it myself but I am just a BuddyPress user… Somebody has to know how to get this working?

    I sort of got it working @derekbolden. But needed to do much in the way of some css stuff, and a few other minor changes. Hopefully that was not because I have the Hybrid theme.
    I do not have calendars working. and I have not worked out how the forum integration works.
    But check out my hardly used site – suckitupprincess.net – which has the events in it – with two events

    @vee_bee

    @silversurferes do you have a calendar in mind??

    @silversurferes

    yes i´ve activated this plugin, and it works well – but i´m missing the ability to show the events in Calendar – for example in a monthly calendar view

    is this plugin able or nor

    or is there a widget for this ???? I don´t know – is there something like that?

    I’d strongly recommend looking into fullcalendar http://arshaw.com/fullcalendar/. Even though I ended up developing our event management system from scratch, on the old h-mag.com site I managed to get the calendar system working by feeding BP Events tables directly into FullCalendar. The instructions for loading events as an array into the calendar system are extremely detailed.

    cool how do you add the googlemaps functionality ?

    but my question about a calendar view – I mean it more simple. I want only to show the events from in a weekly / monthly calendar view

    Hi Silver,
    Take a look at the scripts available here (http://speckyboy.com/2010/02/03/10-jquery-plugins-for-easier-google-map-installation/) for adding Google Maps to your events. You’d need to parse every Event’s address to achieve the effect. I actually prefer Bing’s map over Google’s, which is what I’m using.

    In terms of calendar view, again a good starting point would be to setup fullcalendar (http://arshaw.com/fullcalendar/). It can be configured to show events only in weekly/monthly view. However, you would need to spend quite a bit of time in order to make it work with the BP Events plugin.

    Now I have another question – how can I add pictures to the text?

    I too would like to have the events plug-in working. I have the same results of taking me to the home page. I’m new to BP and not a programmer but I think it’s an application worth having and I would probably pay for it if it had calendar integration. 2.9.2. e it gets picked up by a programmer.

    hmm what is up with this plugin

    is the developing stopped ?? I hope so not because there is so many potential after this.

    do anybody know how it stands at the moment with this plugin?

    (sorry for my bad english)

    This plugin does work, if you use Dave Aubins latest update version.
    It doesnt work in full though. I can’t get the notifications / invites to work, has anyone else managed to get them to work?

    @vee_bee

    @troy I started looking at the notifucations and invites, got part of it working.
    But other projects have taken priority. I will be back to it soon though

    @vee_bee please let us know if u manage

    Great! I’m going to try it on my proyect; I agree with many that somehow the “events” feature is a community activity booster ;)

    @jasonsbarr

    It seems to be placing the “event-avatars” folder into the wp-content folder, instead of in the child theme or plugin folder, one of which I assume is where it should go. Anyone have a fix for this?

    Jason Barr
    Participant

    @jasonsbarr

    I would try to fix it myself, but I’m utter crap with PHP. I’m also in graduate school, so having the time to learn how to code it better is not likely to happen anytime soon…
