How can users add a new post in buddypress?

    Hey all,

I’m a total newbie here. I just set up a new site with WordPress and buddypress (NOT wordpress MU!).

I want my new users who sign up to be able to add posts to my existing blog. I don’t want them to create new blogs and having to manage them separately. I want them to add posts to my existing blog, in different categories maybe (optional).

Is it a user role issue? Right now I’m setting all my new users as “Author”. This should allow them to create new posts right? Where would they need to go to add a new post? In the admin panel?

    Thanks!

Yep, you’ve got it exactly right – in /wp-admin/post-new.php.

If you want to let your users post from within the front-end, take a look at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-quickpress/. It hasn’t been updated in a long while so if it doesn’t work, hopefully someone else is aware of an alternate.

wow that’s really nice thanks! However, my problem is that I don’t see the “blogs” option in the menu, like the one they have here: https://s.w.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-quickpress/screenshot-1.jpg?r=234544

The “blogs” menu options only shows up if you have member blogs when using MU.

    Blogs are not posts. :)

Just a note that burtadsit’s “group blog” plugin is perfect for your situation. check it out.

Andrea I know but I only want them to be able to creat posts. I installed the Quickpress plugin but I still don’t see an option in the Front-End to create a new post. Am I missing something?

3sixty that plugin made my whole site crash. I had to get rid of it. I guess it hasn’t been updated in a while.

Alright guys, will I be obligated to install WPMU to achieve this?

Is there no way to allow people to post on my existing blog without going to the admin panel?

If you’re using standard WP, just assign new users the WP role of “Contributor” or higher… that’s it!

I think he’s looking for posting without going into wp-admin

Anyone tried using Posthaste Plugin or the TDO mini-forms with BP posting yet?

Yeah I’m trying to figure this out as well.

I tried TDO mini-forms but it crashed my site. and kept on giving me 0=error. Are there any other similar plugins that might work?
