Require Avatar for approving users?

Hi – I would like to make the registration process for new community users add the option that it is mandatory to upload an image for an avatar, otherwise the sign up would not complete. Would there be a solution for this?

Allowing upload of avatar/image file at signup in open registration installs could lead to hacking of your system. I’ve cleaned a site where uploaded .jpg contained hacker scripts instead of real image files.

Really? Is this still the case with the new versions of buddypress?

I thought that allowing avatar uploads in open registration installs was the default.

If that is still risky, which solutions would you recomment, @mercime ?
