BuddyPress 1.2 RC3
February 12, 2010 in News
We’ve got one more 1.2 release candidate ready for testing (zip | svn).
This should be the last pre-release version of 1.2, we hope to have the final version released very early next week.
Don’t forget that you can also play your part in testing by signing up at our BuddyPress Test Drive community. This is currently running 1.2-rc3.
If you are upgrading from an earlier pre-release version then you can just overwrite must delete it and then re-upload the BuddyPress plugin directory. Instructions for upgrading test installations from previous versions of BuddyPress are also available.
As before you can find a list of known issues and a place to post bugs via the BuddyPress Trac installation.
Please do not post bugs in the comments as they may be missed.
Update: Please make sure you delete any old pre-release versions of BuddyPress before uploading this version. You also DO NOT need to move any themes to wp-content/themes. WordPress knows that the BuddyPress default is in the plugin folder.

We are using 1.1.3 and it is a perfect timing to upgrade to 1.2 because we are right now in the prozess of adding new features to the website. I really appreciate your effort and your work on Buddypress. It is a great Plug-In. Thank you!

Wow! kudos to you and the team . Can’t wait for the stable!
There is no ticket in trac for 1.2 currently and I hope, this Rc will not cause any more tickets.
Looking forward to stable earlier next week

After updating from rc2 to rc3:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_dtheme_show_on_frontpage() in /mnt/web6/30/61/5183661/htdocs/portfolio/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/home.php on line 9
Have commented the line out and removed the loop, works for me this way… but, what’s the problem?

Awesome work team. Great to see so much progress – can’t wait to install the release version and also upload some more child themes!

SlaFFik: that makes no sense at all…

Cool! The release arrives just in time for a new site theme we’re building based on Buddypress.
SlaFFik said on February 12, 2010
madlyfe – my words have no sense or RC? I was ironic, ’cause everyone knows – it can’t be without any mistakes.
Al Delgado said on February 12, 2010
Wow! I just installed the 1.2 rc 3… . Wow! The new BP home theme out of the box is well thought out and looks great!
madlyfe said on February 12, 2010
nah i read it wrong.. i thought you were saying that the more RC’s = more bugs… sorry im retarded..
Chris said on February 12, 2010
I get the same error as Dave.
Dave, you running WP 3.0 bleeding edge?
For me, 1.2 RC3 works with WPMU, creates an error with WP 3.0 bleeding edge
Dave said on February 12, 2010
Looks like the BuddyPress Default 1.2-rc3 doesn’t have a themes options page for choosing blog or activity for the front page …
Dave said on February 12, 2010
@Chris
I’m running on 2.9.1
As I say the prob seems to be with the theme not having (or showing) theme options. Using an early theme which I saved under a different name, I have no problem

@chris @dave
We are currently discussing it here. Share your config/setup.

Diesel Laws said on February 13, 2010
I’m getting the same thing as Dave – have no idea why it is doing this. Dave have you opened a Trac ticket on this?
Christopher Gillespie said on February 13, 2010
Dave,
Delete home.php from the themes dir or simply re-up the whole buddypress folder. Overwriting the old folder leaves old nonsense in place.
Diesel Laws said on February 13, 2010
Scratch that. I may have installed extra stuff into the 1.2-rc3 folder. Double checking now.
Richard said on February 13, 2010
I too am getting the same fatal error as Dave. Hmmm….
Richard said on February 13, 2010
P.S. Am I right in thinking you don’t need to install the bp-fault theme into your themes folder? Wondering if that might be the cause?
Richard said on February 13, 2010
Scratch that last comment. I’ve noticed there’s no home.php file in the default theme folder. Will trying installing home.php from previous RC and see what happens…
Richard said on February 13, 2010
Right. I think I’ve figured out the reason for the fatal error people (myself included) have been experiencing. The old RC1 or 2 had a home.php file in the default theme but RC3 does not. When overriding the buddypress plugins folder, my home.php file was not being deleted from the default theme folder. Deleting it from the folder now makes my site work as it should.
Cheers
Richard

damn I just see that there is a new version, I’ll take this one, thank you.
Sannie said on February 13, 2010
Only the sidebar can contain widgets in bp1.2, this is different en not backwards compatible with an earlier version. Why is this?
chengdu-living said on February 13, 2010
Really looking forward to the 1.2 final. Great job with the development of BuddyPress!!
Andy Peatling said on February 13, 2010
Thanks for working this issue out, I knew it wasn’t an issue with the code. I have updated the post.
Andy Peatling said on February 13, 2010
@Sannie: There is a plugin you can install alongside BuddyPress to make it backwards compatible with 1.1. This is in the upgrade instructions linked in the post: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/
Diesel Laws said on February 13, 2010
@Andy – I have opened a Track ticket though on the fact that there is no option to choose the blog/activity on the front page. Other than that, it seems like a beautiful working system ready for release!
Diesel Laws said on February 13, 2010
Actually, I have found a weird link in the header nav – http://example.com/BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG/
Obviously that points to a page not found – is that an error or is that something that is just happening on mine (fresh buddypress 1.2 rc3 plugin install)
nzde said on February 13, 2010
Hi there Andy – I probably shouldn’t put this one here, but I’ve noticed that the uploading a group avatar/image function isn’t working properly (not on my install at least). When I upload an image for a group avatar (whether sized at 150px x 150px or otherwise), the image doesn’t show, I see a heading “Crop Avatar” with the next line immediately beneath it saying “Avatar to cropAvatar preview” (exactly like that); there’s then a gap where it seems the image should appear followed by a “Crop image” button. If I click that, I get this message: “There was a problem cropping the avatar, please try uploading it again”. Trying again doesn’t help.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Cheers
Richard
P.S. Small issues like that aside, I wanted to say that BuddyPress 1.2 is superb. Great work. And thank you!
Andy Peatling said on February 15, 2010
nzde: Sounds like your server doesn’t have the GD image library, or you have incorrect image upload directory permissions.
maxanda said on February 14, 2010
I installed the RC2 version and had no issues that I’m aware of.
Although I barely noticed a difference between RC2 and RC3, I’m happy to report that both have been working well for me and I am looking forward to the final release of 1.2.
Arx Poetica said on February 14, 2010
@andy — something you may want to note for the final release.

I cannot post on the forum, no matter what I do, so I simply have to say this here – the upload images issue is still there. They do end up in folders on the server, but they aren’t accessible for the backend. Sorry if this is considered to be spam by anyone, I do not intend to come accross as annoying.

“No option to choose the blog/activity on the front page. ”
+1
Pam said on February 14, 2010
The admin bar cannot be hidden to users who aren’t logged in RC3 – it worked okay in RC2
Diesel Laws said on February 14, 2010
@notbad – The option to choose whats on the front page has reverted to fit with the normal wordpress structure. You can now go to Settings > Reading and choose a static page of Activity or your latest blog posts. All works well, we just weren’t notified of the change.
rsqst said on February 14, 2010
fabulous work!
rsqst said on February 14, 2010
There’s a typo in the backwards compatibility plugin: in the directory bp-core, bp-core-wdigets.php should be bp-core-widgets.php
Jitto P.Jose said on February 15, 2010
yea… the theme option to select blog or activity stream at the front page is missing… any fix for it?
cargo said on February 15, 2010
@Diesel Laws,
thank you for answer =), but i cant find it in ‘Reading Settings’ =(

Thanks for the help.. Now its work well.. but the blog option go to the right end in top menu… Is there any way to bring int next to home?
cargo said on February 15, 2010
@Jitto P.Jose, sorry, i don’t know.
Question: where you find this option!? – (cos i can’t find it there) !?
Jitto P.Jose said on February 15, 2010
@notbad
I use standard wordpress 2.9.1 with BP 1.2 RC3
I created a page called Blog then went to Settings -> reading of wordpress dashboard
selected activity streaming as front page and “Blog” page as post pages.
I suppose you asked this…
