BuddyPress 1.6 Beta 1 is now available.ย Download BuddyPress 1.6 Beta 1 (zip) from wordpress.org, or check out the milestone onย Trac.
Beta time means that we think 1.6 is almost ready to be released. But first, we’d like some feedback from BuddyPress plugin authors, theme designers, or those who manage BuddyPress sites. Now is your chance to help us help you, and check out all the work that’s gone into making the next version of BuddyPress more efficient and more powerful.
If you think you’ve found a bug, or have feedback, please leave a message on the support forums or report a bug on our bugtracker.
As always, please DO NOT run BuddyPress Beta software on your live production site. There may be quirks with existing plugins and we will be updating code rapidly as bug reports come in. Install BuddyPress 1.6 Beta 1 on a local installation or a test site, and let us know if you find anything that isn’t working the way it should. We’re shooting for a release in the next few weeks – and the more testers we get, the quicker it’ll be. So get testing!
Woohoo! Thanks for all the hard work in getting this out the door guys.
Very impressive! I’m loving averything in this new version.
Starting test!, congrats to you all for the great work! ๐
Thanks for all the great work BuddyPress team. I’ll start some testing tonight and see how it goes. ๐ Hopefully I’ll also have some feedback to put into the process. Cheers.
Sounds good. Is there a feature list anywhere for the update?
Not yet, but we’ll post one up in the next couple of days.
Do you have to uninstall your current buddypress to install the beta?
If you’re asking can you run the stable version alongside the beta version, no. It’s just the same as if you had upgraded from BP 1.5.5 to 1.5.6. All your settings and data will remain intact, but testing that kind of assumption is what this beta period is about. If you don’t have a test server, it’s best to wait for the 1.6 final release.

looking forward to testing the update ! way to go guys !
I can’t find the release notes on the Codex. Can someone point me to them? I’m in the middle of planning our upgrade and want to know what new features are available.
We haven’t finished putting together a list yet (there’s a lot). Hope to do it sometime this week, maybe after another Beta release goes out.
Hey Team,
Got 1 bug to report in the new Beta. It seems that the “Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts” checkbox in the settings panel is backwards. It allows commenting on blogposts when unchecked.
On another note, I’m wondering what one has to do to get any comments to show up in the activity feed when selecting “Comments” from the filtering dropdown menu. It seems that I can not get anything to show up there (activity feed comments or post comments). This is the case for me on both BuddyPress 1.6 and 1.5.6 using the default theme on WordPress 3.4.
Thanks again for all your hard work on this great WordPress add-on!
Thanks — https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4301
On your second point, Comments filter should return blog comments. It’s working on testbp.org, and if you have the same issue on 1.5.6, open a topic on our support forums and we’ll try to figure it out with you.
The Topbar is new for 1.6 right?
Any chance the new privacy settings for profile fields will include member and admin only? There’s info I’d like my members to share with me, but that they wouldn’t want to make public.
Jen, this is what the options look like: http://cl.ly/3i0m3b1g3q1u0o0m2V24
Ok, thanks. I was just hoping that under visibility there would be an option for “admin only”
Maybe the next update?
I would really love this option too.
Is it a big thing to add in, or is it possible to do with a little hack?
