In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move Topic
Alright, first alpha bugs quashed!
I submitted this to the WP plugin repo about 24-36 hours ago – any idea how long it takes to get approved?
In reply to: Plugin Ideas ThreadStwc, I actually rewrote Posts Since Last Visit to use the database instead of cookies. I haven’t turned it into a plugin yet but I have code and it does seem to work. Let me know if you want to test.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicTry this:
Version 0.0.4 – 2010 04 18
Download: http://bpanswers.com/buddypress-forums-move-topic.zip
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicAh, I know why. The code only generates the drop down if my-forums.php does not exist. I’ll have to figure out another way to trigger the drop-down generation.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicIt would be great for the site admin to move topics in whatever forum he chooses, whether he’s the group admin/moderator or not.
I think it should be set up to work this way, actually – is it not working for your site admin user?
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move Topichmm,… the script is supposed to generate a “my-forums.php” file. I may need to include a prepackaged “my-forums.php” with the right permissions set.
Can you look in the plugin directory and tell me if there is a my-forums.php file there, and if so, what are its permissions? Can you try setting it to 666 and see if it works? If it does not exist, could you manually create a file with that name in the plugin directory and set its permissions to 666?
If this is all greek, I can put up an updated version. Just let me know if the file is there or not, if you can.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move Topic^^^ This is now fixed and the download link is updated to version 0.0.3.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicOK, some weird behavior right out of the gate. When you delete a BuddyPress Group, the Forum doesn’t get deleted. Not sure I want to file this as a bug on trac… as it seems like a good fallback for admins who accidentally hit the prominently placed “Delete Group” drop-down.
In any case, if you delete a Group called “Widgets”, it will leave a zombie Forum item called “Widgets” in the drop down that you can’t get rid of through manually rebuilding the drop-down file.
So it seems like the only way around this is to compare wp_bb_forums to wp_bp_groups and only add an option item where there is a corresponding id/forum_id.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicWish List/Future Plans (continued)
- “Stick it anywhere” function – so you can customize it to your theme. I couldn’t figure out how to say “if the user has already stuck this code in their theme, don’t load the default drop-down.” If anyone has done something like that before, let me know the best way to code that.
- take out “hard coding” of database tables, such as “wp_bb_forums”
In reply to: BuddyPress Forum Move Topic 0.0.1I “officially” released Move Topic 0.0.2 as a PLUGIN and started a new thread for it. Suggest we continue the discussion there https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/new-plugin-buddypress-group-forums-move-topic
In reply to: Buddypress Feedback from my Members: 4 Problem AreasIt would be nice to at least know if there is a roadmap on search? Is there a desire to put an actual site search in the core at some point in the future, or is Google Custom Search going to be the way to go?
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasI think rich is a little busy right now. I’ll try turning this into a plugin now. Wish me luck.
In reply to: Looking to hire Buddypress developerswhat are you trying to get done?
In reply to: Trying to alter layout of bp_activity_action()You can alter the action variable using php string manipulation functions. I would start with trim(), which might be all you need to get rid of the boilerplate text.
In reply to: Trying to alter layout of bp_activity_action()Huh, $activities_template is a cool variable. It gets you part of the way there (or all the way there, if you are willing to get complicated).
For example, to get “Admin said:” , you can use $activities_template->activities[0]->display_name (for the first activity item; to get the whole list you would have to do a “foreach” loop).
You can get Content of Forum Post the same way. View Full is already in /entry.php, and Delete is an admin option that comes up as part of <?php bp_activity_action() ?>
It is more problematic when it comes to TOPIC NAME and GROUP NAME, since you would have to reverse engineer the pre-baked $activities_template->activities[0]->action string. I would probably do something like:
1. check $activities_template to see if the current item is a forum post
2. if so, run php string functions to strip out the hyperlinked TOPIC NAME
3. and also run php string functions again on the same string to strip out the hyperlinked GROUP name
Would that solve it?
In reply to: Trying to alter layout of bp_activity_action()That’s interesting. Try var_dump of $activities_template and see what’s in it? I’m curious myself.
echo '<pre>'; var_dump($activities_template); echo '</pre>';(Side note You can do a rough hack of your /entry.php file, for example, flip it so
<?php bp_activity_content_body() ?> is on top of <?php bp_activity_action() ?>, which puts more emphasis on the message content. This doesn’t achieve the high level of control you want, though.)
In reply to: bp-events plugin ported to 1.2.x ?Got it! Thanks Bowe.
In reply to: bp-events plugin ported to 1.2.x ?1: Before activating the plugin, comment out in the bp-events.php (plugin directory):
* 21-24 row (require..)
2: Activate the plugin
3: You receive the error message You receive the error message
4: Uncomment the lines of paragraph 1, and refresh the page
OK, something is ‘lost in translation’ for me… I commented out rows 21-24, tried to activate the plugin and got this message:
Fatal error: Class 'BP_Events_Event' not found in /home/website22/public_html/bp/wp-content/plugins/bp-events/bp-events.php on line 215Bowe, what did you do at this point?
UPDATE: OK, they mean uncomment row 21 so BP can see the classes file. I then got a “function not found” error, so I uncommented the rest of the includes, and it seems to work now.
Wow! Very cool.
You need to create a new WordPress page before this will work. Create a wordpress page, then the option will appear.
In reply to: How to overwrite a function?OK, I think I have a lead for you.
The function you want to replace may be groups_setup_nav() which is located in bp-groups.php
I believe this is the function that decides (among other things) what the default subnav display item is.
I would first edit groups_setup_nav() to see if it works the way you think it will. If so, then undo your edit, copy the function to bp-custom.php, and rename it my_groups_setup_nav, redo the edit, and then unregister/reregister the function by adding this code to bp-custom.php:
remove_action(‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘groups_setup_nav’);
add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘my_groups_setup_nav’ );
The remove_ and add_action SHOULD work but I may be wrong that you can simply drop the remove_action and add_action in bp-custom.php and expect it to work. This BP tutorial might explain the remove/add process better: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/modifying-the-buddypress-admin-bar/
In reply to: How to overwrite a function?I am not a professional programmer but I don’t think you have created the function properly? The usual format of a function is
bp_function_name () {
Insert code here
}
sorry if I am misunderstanding.
In reply to: Codex page spammed?I also found a spam link in the codex and deleted it.
Spammers ruin everything.
In reply to: BuddyPress Forum Move Topic 0.0.1thanks guys, I’m happy to help, but I’m an amateur coder and I’ve never done a plugin before. I’ve seen the wp codex entry on creating plugins but am just trying to get my own site up and running at the moment. If any of you can suggest a “how to write a plugin” shortcut that would be great.
I just had a revelation tonight that it would be relatively trivial to extend this to topic merge and topic split, completing the “holy trinity” of forum manipulation.
It also seems that wp hacks are becoming a lost art – I tried to make the code paste-able, and simple as possible, so you could just grab it immediately and run with it? Is it not working for you?
In reply to: Replies in Activity Stream post to Forumyou can shut off the ability to post activity stream replies to forum topics in the admin panel. If you do want to maintain separate lists of comments, one in the forum and one on the activity stream, for each post, and then have them appear in the forum post, then I think the Forum Extras plugin has this feature in a proof-of-concept (or better) stage.
In reply to: How to overwrite a function?You can create a file called /plugins/bp-custom.php and BP will automatically be “aware” of it. You can put custom functions there.
