    Actually, if you “Mark as Spammer”, I believe BP suspends the spammer’s blog too. The problem is with Delete. To expand on what I wrote earlier today,

    When you “Delete User”:

    1. The user is deleted from the Members list, but the URL to the Member profile is still reachable (I filed this as a bug at trac.buddypress.org)

    2. The spam blog is NOT deleted.

    3. The entry in wp_signups is NOT deleted.

    4. The entry in wpmu-users.php page is NOT deleted.

    Just to start building this out as a how-to:

    To add a notification, you would call this function located in bp-core-notifications.php

    bp-core-notifications; function bp_core_add_notification( $item_id, $user_id, $component_name, $component_action, $secondary_item_id = false, $date_notified = false )

    So as a test, if you wanted to store a notification that the user had just visited the activity page, you could make up a new notification type ‘activity_viewed’ and use this code:

    bp_core_add_notification('100', (int)$bp->loggedin_user->id, 'activity', 'activity_viewed');

    Of course, that’s useless unless we ping the user. Next step: how do we add the little notification to the buddy bar? Any ideas?

    anyone? this looks like my starting point:

    function bp_core_add_notification

    Reporting bad behavior is listed as a potential future feature for BP 1+4+

    https://buddypress.org/about/roadmap/

    There is some potential overlap here, as I think one developer is planning on doing a plugin for Report/Ignore activity.

    I haven’t heard anything about a bad word filter for Buddypress, so I am not sure anyone is working on a BP-specific plugin for that. It would not be complicated to code if you can find a developer.

    DOH!

    There is a BuddyPress admin option called “Disable Account Deletion”, and it’s either set to “Yes” by default or my finger slipped and I changed it…

    DOH! DOH!

    I’m going to file a trac ticket for this because I want my hour back and I can’t have it… the error message needs to be more descriptive:

    “There was an error deleting (spam-username) from the system. Please try again, or check your BuddyPress settings to ensure that Account Deletion is enabled.”

    kris,

    add this to the forums-loop.php:

    <?php bp_the_topic_poster_avatar('width=20&height=20') ?>
    <?php bp_the_topic_poster_name() ?>

    To make the avatar bigger, change the width and height parameters.

    In your new role as API guru, is there any way to coordinate the efforts of plugin developers and core developers, in terms of letting plugin developers know what’s worth pursuing? How do you determine what goes in the core and what is plugin territory?

    For example, I just read that “Inappropriate content flagging” is a “Potential Future BuddyPress Feature” for 1.4+ (https://buddypress.org/about/roadmap/) and now I’m wondering how that jibes with Report/Ignore plugin that may be developed as part of GSoC.

    The need for an “advanced” BP search gets discussed frequently in the forums, so would that be a core function or should it be up to plugin developers?

    I’ve made two contributions of code that extends BP Forums – a “posts since last visit” tracker and now a “BP Forum Move Topic” function that I will expand to Forum Topic Split and Topic Merge – but before I start extending that, or start another project, how do I know if I am duplicating effort that eventually will be part of the BP core?

    This is now officially a “Potential Future BuddyPress Feature” for BP 1.4+ (ie, after BP 1.3, which looks to be essentially the WP 3.0 compatibility release). Here is the short list:

    A quick blog post form via the theme. (try plugin: BuddyPress QuickPress)

    Privacy controls (try plugin: bp-authz)

    Global content tagging

    Inappropriate content flagging

    Bulk accept/reject friendship requests

    Grouping of similar activity stream items

    Ability to block all communication from a user

    Option to receive forum post notifications via email

    Message file attachments

    Structured profile fields (templates for address / phone number)

    Profile field specific searching (try plugin: BP Member Filter)

    AJAX live updating of site wide activity stream

    Yes, this is a known issue:

    https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2191

    There is also the problem of notifications suddenly reappearing for no reason (like when you switch between your BP theme and the Admin screens)

    That sucks. There must be a way to work this out. We’ve come too far to let this experiment go!

    Also, can I put in a vote that this be extensible? Like that GSoC project for the Report/Ignore plugin, the Ratings system should really be content agnostic – whether you put the rating interface on the activity stream, forum post, blog post, or other BP “component” type.

    And speaking of that, there is a great “rating” system in MrMaz’s Links plugin. So not sure where all of this is going, but one would think your reputation as a BP user would be a combination of your forum posts, blog posts, and links, right?

    The spirit of open source is not that everyone works for free, rather it is that we share code freely.

    Nicely put! That this does seem like an appropriate venue to pull together strategies for getting plugins developed. Sometimes that is going to involve paying people money for their time, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

    In terms of getting this one done: What’s a reasonable amount of money to cover the development cost? How do we vouch for our pledges?

    Wow, happy birthday to you! I hope you took the day off.

    This is also a great opportunity to say THANK YOU for your tireless efforts to bring social networking to the masses of rank & file developers, and doing it in a way that makes such great logical sense.

    Yes, it simply creates a wp/bp account linked to that user’s facebook profile, so there is no difference in terms of the features users can access.

    Not to speak for Peter but I would guess he’s primarily interested in getting his “post to” plugins for facebook, twitter, and linkedin to the point where they are stable. Though he probably does know the facebook API well enough to say “you would need to do x y and z ” to modify the gigya code to pull over the avatar.

    This ultimately should be on gigya to fix – I don’t think their wp plugin has been updated in a long while.
