In reply to: The Register Button goes to Home page?
I don’t think it is a problem with email in either case so those plugins probably won’t help – The page itself is not loading correctly, as far as I can tell…
I was just suggesting that the problem he was describing was very similar to yours ( but I can’t see any other similarities at the moment, which might have been a clue ) ….
The .htaccess file should be in the same ( ‘root’ ) folder as your website’s wp-config.php file…
I don’t at the moment have any further ideas….
In reply to: The Register Button goes to Home page? There is something wrong with your register page as, I think, it should have Name ( at least ) as a required field under the profile details section.
If I click on ‘complete sign up’ without filling anything in then it redirects to the home page whearas I think it should stay on the same page but with error messages.
What plugins are your using? Single or multi-site? Any unusual permalink or .htaccess settings?
Have you altered the Name field in any way from the default:

This seems to be similar to @allentan‘s problem: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/registeration-doesnt-work/

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-multi-network/ is probably no longer compatible with the latest buddypress.
Did you try the patched version: http://alantait.net/2011/07/27/wp-multi-network-plugin-fix-for-wordpress/ ? In the comments of that page @johnjamesjacoby mentioned ( 12/02/2012 ) that he planned to update wp-multi-network soon…..
@boonebgorges recently wrote http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/45682/7401 which seems particularly relevant to your question. In the post he mentions Networks + as an alternative way to enable multiple networks but it is a premium plugin.

Is https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/page-links-to/ the plugin that you mentioned in the other topic?
I wonder if it is compatible with buddypress. Buddypress is quite particular about it’s permalinks….. If you disable page-links-to, do you get the profile details content on the register page then?
It could be something else to do with permalinks and the .htaccess file that should be in the same directory as the wp-config.php file.
The usual method for diagnosing issues is to disable all plugins and revert to bp-default. If it then works one can start to reactivate plugins and theme until something goes wrong – ie the last thing you reactivated would be the chief suspect!
In reply to: Better searchIn reply to: Can’t Register, Help!oops, i deleted it, so here it is again http://sumtips.com/2011/01/enable-multisite-feature-wordpress-3-1.html
I think the `ErrorDocument 404 /index.php?error=404` line might be complicating things, so I would suggest removing it ( or putting `#` in front ) until the site is working properly again….
In reply to: Can’t Register, Help! What is in your .htaccess file? The one in the same directory as wp-config.php….
In reply to: Can’t Register, Help!I tried, and it doesn’t seem to work…..
In reply to: Can’t Register, Help!I don’t know what is going on….
Some pages are not found, some pages look like bp-default and some pages are what appears to be parallelus-mingle ….In reply to: Can’t Register, Help!still not found in ie9 even with cleared cache via developer tools (f12)
What is weird is that it works in firefox
In reply to: Can’t Register, Help! The link that you gave in the first post gives an HTTP 404 Not Found error.
Have you checked your permalinks? It might be an idea to save them again and check that the .htaccess file looks correct.
Have you deleted any buddypress page at any time? Make sure that the trash is deleted permanently and the permalinks are saved again ( just visiting the page should do that but it is as well to make sure )
In reply to: Registeration doesn’t workIn reply to: Buddypress Activation Email@allentan What debug info does a wp-mail-smtp test email give you.
Does that email actually leave your host’s servers?
The functions.php file would be found in the ( child ) theme directory. If it doesn’t exist you can create one.
Were you logged out when you filled in the registration form?
I wonder if this even is an email problem as I can’t reach normal buddypress pages such as http://learningdigitalphotography.net/activate/ I get `(HTTP 404 Not Found)`….
In reply to: Registeration doesn’t workIn reply to: Internet Exploreer issue and Create Account issueThere is a confusing amount of stuff about ie quirks mode on the internet.
It could be that a previous page put that ie tab into quirks mode.
On this page for instance, on a pc without this issue, if you click f12 in internet explorer ( Developer Tools is built into ie version 8 & 9 ) and from the developer tools dropdown bar’s Document Mode select quirks mode then put http://islandstitcheryguild.org/ in the address bar it will also be in quirks mode…
If this is actually the problem, then on the computers where this happens what is the consequence of manually switching to Document Mode ie9 standards – does it ‘stick’?
In reply to: Internet Exploreer issue and Create Account issue@crystal-phoenix I don’t see any problem with internet explorer 9 in ‘normal’ Browser / Document mode
But if I switch (using F12 Developer Tools) to ( Document Mode: ) Quirks then the menu ( Home Activity Groups Members ) is aligned vertically…. on the left etc. ( I haven’t seen your screenshot )
Maybe something is making those ie9 browsers switch to quirks mode – but it didn’t happen to me automatically….
Although I can’t see what on your page would have caused it…

That is taken from @modemlooper‘s bp-columns which is a child theme of bp-default but with a second sidebar…

@boonebgorges wrote the following recently http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/45682/7401 which seems relevant to your question…..
The article only mentions Networks + to enable multiple networks which is a premium plugin.
There is also a free plugin, by @johnjamesjacoby, to enable multiple networks https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-multi-network/ but that apparently is no longer compatible.
It has been patched ( http://alantait.net/2011/07/27/wp-multi-network-plugin-fix-for-wordpress/ ) and @johnjamesjacoby mentioned in the comments of that page ( 12/02/2012 ) that he planned to update it soon…
