I wonder if @sbrajesh‘s http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-global-unified-search/ free plugin is any help?

If you click on the link I gave above, you will find the wordpress codex instructions for deactivating all plugins.
You can also rename individual plugin folders to de-activate them…. ( to re-enable, make sure you first rename them again to the exact original name )
To get back into your website you could deactivate all plugins?
bp-custom.php
It looks like one is for buddypress 1.5+ and the other for buddypress 1.2.9-

Sometimes the email gets stuck in spam or junk filters.
To get email working, some web hosts require an extra wordpress plugin, such as:

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/configure-smtp/
wp-mail-smtp and configure-smtp can send a test email which often provides useful debug information!
This is a frequently discussed issue here and people have found all three different plugins useful – there may be others.
Please check your host’s knowledge base or faq for further information….

https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-private-community/home/ is listed as incompatible with 1.5+ in Aug 2011 on https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/plugin-compatibility/ (although the error there is wrong) and doesn’t appear to have been recently upgraded
Pretty permalinks are required for buddypress to function properly.

A similar thing happened to me since 1.5 came out but I can’t remember the details.
What happens when you go back to the plugins list?

If if you go to ‘add new’ plugins and search for buddypress.
It should turn up in the list and be noted as installed etc…
