    1. Sounds good :)

    2. I personally didn’t really like this, but it would be incredibly simple to change – initially I’ll include details on how to make it work like this (basically to make it exactly the same as the WP backend) and perhaps in the future it could be something modifiable in the backend.

    3. Lots of people seem to like the idea of a directory. It should be looked into, definitely :)

    4. + 5. It’s likely that non-admin page creation would come before a ‘suggest a page’ feature…mostly because if I get the chance I want to look into non-admin created pages tonight :)

    @mercime

    Sorry if I’m being dense here but i’m still not 100% sure I follow. I think the second part of the behaviour is correct – each time you save, a revision should be created. I think the thing that is going wrong is that the activity stream is getting too many updates – i.e. if you change a page 10 times in 10 minutes, only the latest update should appear in the activity stream. Does that sound right?

    1. Glad that is working okay. It’s something that I only implemented on Friday so it may need some tweaking :)

    2. At the moment there is no facility to delete revisions. Something to look at in future I guess. For now, we want pretty much everything saved as it’s all student work. If we were to put something in there I’d imagine it would be an admin function to clear individual revisions/all revisions older than x amount of time or ‘all’ revisions.

    3. That sounds great :) Our project finishes in a week or so, so we can chat about this after that.

    4. (The alert) – I’m not sure what you mean here. Please can you explain further?

    @mikepratt

    1. Thanks :)

    2 + 3. I definitely see your point here. We have tried to make it as accessible as possible to people that are non-technical. I’m sure there are things that can be improved upon on that front though. One thing that might be quite nice (suggested by one of the other developers, Ryo) is to make it so that by default the wiki pages are created with some kind of basic instructions – perhaps an instructional video. Not something we’ll be doing now but having a backend admin function that lets you control that might be good.

    Thanks for the link. We originally looked at using mediawiki for this project but it turned out to be a big of a nightmare to integrate the systems nicely. See this post for a few more details: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/group-wiki-plugin-not-a-release-but-in-progress

    One we can get the plugin code into a decent state you’re more then welcome to it :) Unfortunately I can’t release WIP code early as I wouldn’t want to run any risks of breaking your site.

    It won’t belong now though, with luck.

    Do you mean something like the forum/users/groups directory? I would definitely like to add something like that but sadly it will have to wait until after the initial project release/deadline as we are pretty much out of time and need to concentrate on bug-fixing at the moment. I do plan to look at a few things asap in my own time (though that is sadly very limited) and that would probably be one of my priorities :)

    I also would recommend joining up to the site and creating your own group so you can see the admin functions for the group wiki. You have a fairly fine grain of control over the wiki pages…

    We have done literally zero testing in the classic theme for our groupwiki plugin. We just don’t have the extra dev time to go that route. The new theme is such a massive improvement over the classic one that it also feels a bit backwards using it ;) Though I’m sure people with established sites can’t very easily just pick up their bags and move over.

    Navigation was initially quite overwhelming so just a general introduction to the software from a user perspective and what you can do with it would be nice.

    Something showing how activity streams work would be great too. It’s a concept that is hard to explain to new people but once they do get it they love it.

    Hi everyone.

    Just thought I’d give people a heads-up (in the hope of getting some testers) and let you know that we should hopefully have a demo site for people to play with by Friday this week. I then hope to have a beta version of the plugin available to some people on here a week or two after that.

    I’ve posted a rather rambling update in reply to David Lewis here:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/message-all-group-members

    There’s a few images of how the site is working at the moment and some details on the state of development.

    Andy posted a quicker solution for this problem also – I don’t have the link to hand but it cuts down quite a lot of the code.

    We’re using BP_Group_Extension without things breaking in our groupwiki plugin development (WPMU 2.9.1). There’s an annoying issue where the subnav is echo’d twice but that’s been raised in BP trac.

    @aekeron

    Yeah, sorry, I was suggesting that you don’t use anything in the vain hope that we get a nice solution soon ;)

    If it doesn’t get put into core it will definitely be something that I’m looking at quite soon. Once we’ve got the groupwiki stuff out of the door.

    I think we need something a little more robust. For our purposes at least, we would like it so that all group members receive updates via email pretty much whenever anyone does anything. I’m sure that would be a nightmare for others though ;)

    Some pointers (check the other two threads in the forum directory 1st page for more info):

    1) BP supports single WP in the latest trunk – http://trac.buddypress.org. Currently still in development but is due out fairly soon.

    2) BP uses bbpress forums internally. If you don’t require the extra features of BP I’d suggest just using bbpress :)

    I’ve been playing with 2.9.1 MU (trunk) and BP 1.2 (trunk) and all seems well so far. Are there any gotchas that I’m not aware of?

    install vipers video quick tags I guess

    It’s not very obvious to be honest – the buttons appear above the tinymce editor box, not where all the usual rich editing buttons are.

    Plus, in WPMU 2.9.x you’ll be able to embed much easier by simply posting video links (for supported sites)

    Our upcoming simple wiki plugin will require WPMU if that makes any difference :)

    I’ll be interested in seeing your results as this is something that we also need to work on in January sometime :)

    I see your point but unfortunately having group page deletion/creation controlled by group admins is something that is a requirement for our project. Once we get the plugin code out there though, I’m sure that either myself (in my spare time) or another plugin developer will be able to quite quickly expand the capabilities of the plugin to suit more situations.

    Listening to it now. Good to be able to put a voice to the name :)

    Lol.. nice point regarding Joomla :) We’ve said similar things in the past too. The WP backend is just a bit overwhelming for new users, despite it being a million miles better than Joomla’s.

    For our courses the students are likely to only have 2-5 wiki pages so our design has been with that in mind to start with. I agree that to be practical for other uses we need to change that though. I’ll see what we can do.

    @aekeron

    Hi again,

    Everything is done through the frontend – our students and academics absolutely hated the backend (and I tend to agree – at least in regards to buddypress doing pretty much everything through the frontend aside from blogs).

    1. Wiki directory page is definitely on the cards but we’ve not started working on that yet. Probably something for the new year :)

    2. Tags would be nice but I suspect something that will come later too sorry…

    3. I’ll discuss the idea of a vertical page listing with people more next week. I suspect it’ll be put on the back-burner until we’ve got most of everything working properly though. (e.g. whatever the rest of the team have already partially completed will be the way we go for the next week or two).

    @aekeron

    We’ll have a sorting mechanism but some of the extra stuff is beyond the scope of this project (deadline is sometime in Jan/Feb). I’m probably going to continue working on the plugin in my spare time however…

    @aekeron

    Participant

    1. Lol, thank you :)

    2. Yeah, the pages list definitely needs work. In some ways a vertical list would be nice/better but I’m not sure of the best way to do this. We were considering an ‘index page’ but I have concerns about the users needing extra clicks to get to places…so..hm.

    I guess index + breadcrumb might work… Hmmmmmmm :)
