” but none of the widgets are pre-set. Member blogs come up, but each new member would have to configure their own widgets.
I’d like members to be able to join and have everything set up for them. “
Asked, answered and beat to death over in the MU forums. If it’s on the user *blogs* then it has nothing to do with Buddypress.
Do you really want widgets set up for the users (a little more work), or do you want a specific sidebar that they can’t fiddle with (dead easy). Or really, sheesh, just set up the sidebar for them buy hardcoding it consistently in the themes (if there’s only one theme for users, well, piece of cake here) and then let them add widgets if you want them to.
Which, really, is how the blogs work by default.
Tip: go over to the MU forums, explain what you want in detail in a new thread.
There are no longer any member themes, just a BP theme for the blog where BP is enabled. use a regualr WP theme on the user’s blogs.
In reply to: wp-admin/?c=1What about the other plugins you have?

In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default themeHigh fives all around then! Something for everyone!
Must be some end-of-year seasonal type holiday thing going on with all the PRESENTS!
In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress ‘mystique’ theme?@kimstipsen i’ll holler when it’s done. busy week tho.
In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default themeIt really depends on the improvements being rolled in, really. I can’t really say until I look at the code.
In reply to: Follow a BlogNot for buddypress, no. But there is an old plugin that did something like this in the backend of MU. look for xiando’s social networking pack.
In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress ‘mystique’ theme?I can never get the cool designs in my head to work out on the screen.
So I’m setting out to bp other themes.
In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress ‘mystique’ theme? In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default theme(darn stupid internet making me do a double post)
In reply to: New BuddyPress 1.2 default themeIf we have themes based on the current default (which I understood was still going to hang around as “classic”) would we really have to “re-do” a whole new theme? Really?
I don’t mean a child theme per se, because a child theme of the current default could just have it’s parent template name changed, if the original one is changed. That’s a simple fix.
So… if I built a new theme based on the current default’s elements, and it’s staying around, I don’t see yet how it;s not going to work, you know?
I can see maybe missing out on any new features, but that;’s a long way from needing to completely redo themes (like last time…).
In reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress ‘mystique’ theme?I’m working on this one in particular, but it’s in my free spare time.
In reply to: Themes in 1.3“First the buddy press plug ins don’t install correctly until you go and reset a value in the wp_sitemeta table in the database. “
If you had to do that, then something’s up with your install.
“could you not distribute a default theme with the plugin or at least mention it somewhere? “
uh, they did. There’s a parent theme in there, a default child theme and in the instructions both in the readme.txt and all over this site it explains how to use it.
In reply to: tumblr.com based on WPMU ?I’m betting they built it with Ruby on Rails.
Then you’re reinstalling, not upgrading.

I know it sounds like a semantic argument, but I’m hoping to head off future thread where someone has deleted all their content trying to upgrade.
In reply to: Themeing Best Practices (Question)You just need another theme for BP activated on the BP blog. That’s the terminology you’re looking for.
this thread might help:

That’s odd, cuz the last I was told – from someone using it on MU – was that is was not officially supported, but that it did actually work.
had you tried it and had issues you needed support with?
In reply to: 404 Page Not Found Issues – Mod RewritePossibly it might help to do a check, but during install people are urged to make sure their WPMU install works. The issue you described above woudl have been immediately apparent without BP. The main blogs’ post permalink’s woudl not have worked.
And despite how many warning given, people still miss it. (like the big huge wall of text on the MU install screen)
Just to clarify, the ecommerce plugins above all run off the blog portion of the site.
In reply to: Post your Twitter account@andrea_r – what else? I only have enough brain for one twitter account, so you’ll get all of my interests & family stuff.
And I am verbose, so you’ve been warned.
If you’re just *upgrading* you do not need to remove anything under wp-content, including blogs.dir. That will remove all the user’s uploads.
(just in case anyone else reading thinks they have to do this)
In reply to: BP could handle a huge number of members? And when you get too big for one server, get a second and put the db/mysql on one, everything else on the second box.
Then go from there.
The user blogs are handled by MU though, not buddypress.
It’s easy enough to strip out what you don’t need from a copy of the theme, or as suggested above, use a child theme for the blogs area. Also, you need to either move the folders to the default theme folder, so it gets correctly applied, or use a plugin to control this (I like new blog defaults).
I’m working on something.
It’s a little more involved with just moving stuff over.
In reply to: I\’ve got different themes on different pagesWhoa, yeah. The other pages are pulling from the bp-parent theme.
Are you sure you just have the bp default theme active?
