I haven’t been around enough in the past number of months to know exactly where BuddyPress stands now, however in the past there were a couple of areas that really effected my ability to use BP.

    1. Privacy – There were way to many holes in the privacy settings for users. Meaning that users were not able to define EXACTLY what was shown and to whom it was shown. Any public facing field ever entered by a user should have the ability to define who sees what is being posted.

    2. Speed – There were way to many ‘joins’ throughout the code and on a somewhat ‘large’ site it basically made using BP impossible for us. We had tied together using bbPress with BP via the group forums, and even with only a few million replies a fully dedicated server would consistently be brought to its knees. There have been tons of tickets with numerous ideas on patches and fixes for this, but overall I would say that anything which can be done to help optimize some of the more intensive queries would help a lot.

    bumping it up.

At the very least is there a way of tuning off the buddypress profile when on subdomain sites so that i can use the built in bbpress 2x profile template?

yeah I am using bbPress v2.0, I don’t want anything 1x related anywhere near my computer.

Part of the problem is there are so many different possible combinations that people can do, that it’s hard to tell what is a bug, what is expected, and what to report where….

Nope, I still have the error. It works about 20% of the time and only in safari, never works in FF 15x ever..
I’ll amend the ticket. thnx for trying though :)

Ok, I ran a test on another install.

If I network activate buddypress, then anything I post on group blogs shows up on the activity stream.

If I activate buddypress on a site by site basis, then only the sites I activate buddypress will send blog posts to the activity stream.

The downside to the second approach is that buddypress asks to have the pages setup on every blog I activate it on manually which is not what i want.

    Question:
What is the best way of installing buddypress, where I can control which blogs posts are sent to my primary buddypress activity stream?

    – network activate = all posts go to stream
    – blog by blog = only active blogs do, but it’s a nightmare having to add bp pages manually to active sites.

Is there a filter I can use if I activate network wide where I can exclude sites from activity stream?

I wanted to add a little more info to this post.

Checking the uploads folder, I see /group-avatars/1/group-1-avatar-name.jpg so the actual group avatars are indeed uploading to the server.

The avatars simply never show up in the normal ‘crop’ the avatar portion, nor do they show up on normal pages.

So, somewhere it is getting lost that there is actually an avatar uploaded.

*I’ve also noticed that there seems to be no way of deleting avatars that were uploaded prior. So if I keep uploading new avatars trying to get it to work, the old ones just stay on the server, orphaned, never to be deleted….

    Thanks Paul.
Yeah, I’m thinking all my problems are due to running trunk. Lesson learned

Yeah I’m quickly learning that the buddypress and bbpress trunk is nowhere near as stable as the WordPress trunk. I’ve always run the WordPress svn trunk updated nightly for years now and have never had a problem.

Posting from the backend, creating a post through wp-admin just like I normally would.
I am currently using the default buddypress theme from the plugin.

To add to my other thread, I am also using an svn of bbPress plugin nightly from yesterday. Basically everything is as new as it can be.

I am using bp 1.7bleeding with WordPress 3.5alpha.
Yes, I can upload themes, update plugins etc. Everything else works perfectly. This is the first problem I have come across with this install.

same problem as before, I can see page1 of my prior forum posts, but no link to reach older posts….

    thanks Paul.
I only planned on adding this to my local dev site, would never consider doing this in a public setting :)

Well I managed to import 30k members and 297k forum posts into the new bbpress plugin. Now we just need the plugin to work with buddypress and I’m set.

This should provide a good test prior to our updating the larger sites with 500k+ members and millions of posts…

thnx for the reminder… I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that bp screws with the registration of usernames with spaces/characters in the name…

    btw
love the site, esp the content, right up my alley.

totally sweet. figured there had to be an easy solution. I’m slowely getting excited about this transfer from vbulletin to bp/bbpress.

We have spent the last few weeks building a new importer for bbpress so that we can bring over some of our very large vbulletin/phpbb forums into bbpress. The task is virtually completed and I do have a test bbpress site up with 40k members and 300k posts.

Currently the forum imported has about 30 ‘forums’. (forums defined here mean ‘sub-forums’ etc)

    My question:
Down the road, when I create a new bp group, can I simply ‘attach’ an existing ‘sub-forum’ to that group?

    Nice job!

Having just migrated my 40k members over from vbulletin into the new bbpress plugin, my next step is to work with adding buddypress.

I would love to read a post someday about what you went through in getting the network setup correctly and any battles you are still fighting. (esp bp related as I have a strong grasp of wpmu already)

I am not on a shared host, but rather run clusters of dedicated servers so cpu/bw is not an issue.

what the hell….. i click the ‘edit’ my reply button above and get a page not found..>?

omg…. bp drives me absolutely nuts, this place is a wreck

anyhow, i was more thinking a link like:
    https://buddypress.org/community/members/anointed/activity/

should that not show me all of my activity on the network?

    @anointed

    Participant

No, I am actually trying to find a forum post in which I answered a question for a person to see if they responded back. I was not @mentioned.

Was there not a way to simply see my activity stream which would show my forum posts/replies?

    Hi Travel Junkie
I’ve actually got a bit of time available if you are still looking for beta testers. I went to your test site but did not find a download link anywhere.

If you need references, just ask JJJ about me. I’m a mod over at bbpress, did extensive beta testing prior to its release, and believe JJJ was more than satisfied with my reports. I’m also currently beta testing the events calendar pro plugin.

Either way, if you need testers let me know and I’ll do what I can to help out.

    p.s.
are there any specific system setup tests that you are looking for in particular?

Curious why wp is using jQuery 1.6.1 vs. 1.6.2 esp considering some of the bugs that were fixed.
This ticket alone was considered ‘serious’ and drove me absolutely nuts until upgrading:
