    Well I have narrowed it down to my get_exclude_categories_loop function.

    Here is my new homepage loop code from the codex:

    <?php
    query_posts(array('category__not_in' => array(get_exclude_categories_loop))); ?>
    <?php if (have_posts()) : while (have_posts()) : the_post();
    ?>

    If I replace get_exclude_categories_loop with numbers like 4,6,52 then it works properly.

    This leads me to believe that my get_exclude_categories_loop function is not returning a list of numbers to insert.

    Here is what I do know:

    1. my database has the right information so the UI is working as expected

    zoo_cat_box_4 true

    zoo_cat_box_5 true

    zoo_cat_box_6 false

    2. Using the new query_posts statement above works when on the homepage using hardcoded cat id #s

    3. Leads me to believe that my get_exclude_categories_loop function is not returning numbers

    or

    I can’t call get_exclude_categories_loop in the query_posts like I am trying to do….

    Any ideas what to change to get this working?

    Well I am running 5.2.6 and still have the tweetstream activation issue.

    Did you get my pm with the login details?

    I had this one installed by Andrew over at the premium site some time ago:

    /*

    Plugin Name: WordPress MU Domain Mapping

    Plugin URI: http://ocaoimh.ie/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

    Description: Map any blog on a WordPress MU website to another domain.

    Version: 0.4.3

    Author: Donncha O Caoimh

    Author URI: http://ocaoimh.ie/

    */

    domain mapping works everywhere, just not on buddypress pages.

    Well.. it works, but the problem is that buddypress is picking up the subdomain instead of the mapped domain in all of the activity stream, profile, etc… links.

    If I am on any page not belonging to buddypress, then the url’s are correctly pointing to the mapped domain.

    I’m guessing someone here has to be using domain mapping on their wpmu/bp setup.

    Am I the only one with this issue?

    It pretty much makes it impossible to launch a bp site for a client if all the links in bp are going to point to the non-mapped domain name.

    Scenario:

    1. User uploads a video to their blog on my wpmu install. (could be subdomain blog or domain mapped blog)

    2. Another user sees the video on another users blog and wants to embed it into either their group/forum or activity stream.

    Brings up the question:

    How do you ‘whitelist’ the wpmu install so that any of my user blogs are ‘pre-approved’ for oembed so the above scenario works?

    I installed the group plugin, and then added another member to a public group. I even bumped the member to a moderator.

    That part worked perfectly, but there is one small issue.

    On the groups activity page, it says user ‘x’ joined the group. The ‘x’ is the proper name, however just to the left of the username is my avatar, and not his.

    example:

    http://shawngaffney.anointed.net/groups/public-test-group/

    first activity says ‘steve’ joined, yet the avatar is my avatar, not his, and the avatar also links to my account not his. That will make it a bit confusing to users?

    **cross posted this on the wordpress.org download page forum as well**

    @anointed

    no i have not resolved the issue yet. Still reading through all the code to find a solution so that I can roll this out to my clients.

    The site url I mentioned above shows a perfect example of what i am talking about.

    I would have tried it on the testbp.org site to confirm it’s not just me, but they do not allow domain mapping there for testing. That’s probably how this bug slipped by…..

    going to sound like a stupid question, but here goes.

    Where is the code in buddypress that is injecting the needed js/ajax etc?

    It’s definitely not in the bp-default header file.

    I managed to create a new child theme with no issues, even using my own header.php file, so it would be nice to know what code to modify once this is resolved so that I only load bp stuff where needed.

    Is there a place in buddypress where I can change the overall links within buddypress pages to point to the mapped domain name instead of the actual subdomain url?

    If my clients account is mapped to ‘xyz.com’ and my bp install is at ‘abc.com’ all links on the buddypress pages send my user to client.abc.com instead of their actual domain.

    kinda makes it impossible to roll buddypress out to my clients if the links on their sites are redirecting to a url that they don’t understand…..

    We really need a buddypress config file that has a list of ‘non-allowed’ group and blog names as this would really help to solve this issue at the core level. Maybe even an admin section where the site admin can add additional ‘non-allowed’ names so that buddypress plugins that create other names don’t conflict as well?

    @anointed

    Thanks Ray… the solution worked for now. I will continue to try and track down the ‘offending’ code that is inserting that part so we don’t have to use the important override.

    btw

    Using the woothemes Canvas framework is a fantastic addition to buddypress. It gives the admin capabilities to change all fonts, backgrounds, colors, layouts, etc… the list is endless really as it depends upon which functions you add in to the admin panel.

    I’m really hoping that someday a buddypress framework is going to be released, as most people have no idea the power behind adding in a control panel into the admin. It will make my life much easier as my clients will now be self sufficient in changing their sites appearance, and won’t have to call me every time they want to modify something in the theme.

    @blackphantom no I am using a standard buddypress default child template. So far there are no mods to the child template other than a couple of css tweaks.

    Beyond that everything is the standard setup. I can give you access to the site/db if you need for troubleshooting via pm. Just let me know what info you would need if you can’t replicate this issue on your end.

    @anointed

    @blackphantom nope, I am absolutely positive that I have both the key fields filled in on the admin page. I even created new apps with new keys to test it out, but it made no difference. I still get the error when clicking the profile tweetstream user link.

    Here is a screenshot of the admin area:

    running wp 2.9.1 with bp 1.2, tweetstream 1.1.5

    I am also getting the error that hnla is receiving above:

    Woah there!

    This page is no longer valid. It looks like someone already used the token information you provided. Please return to the site that sent you to this page and try again … it was probably an honest mistake.

    I have created the twitter app, and input both of the keys. I did set the callback url when creating the application.

    I get this error when I go into my profile/settings and try to click the twitter button to activate it for me.

    I can report the same problem of not being able to post an article after installing the plugin.

    Also:

    Is there an area within a users profile to see the items that they ‘like’?

    I was picturing a tab ‘my likes’ where I could see all the activity streams that I ‘liked’ and also have the ability to ‘unlike’ an item.

    Thank you Ray, that worked out just fine.

    bump: is there a different way to include secondary function files within a child theme?

    I’ve tried many different ways to include templatepath, but none are working…

    please advise.

    @anointed

    The reason I want to use includes is that I add a lot of functionality to the backend, and like to stay organized by using multiple included php functions files. I just find it much easier to maintain then putting everything into one huge functions.php file.

    In addition to what DJPaul said, BuddyPress no longer requires itself to be activated site wide. You can pick and choose which blogs BuddyPress is loaded on in each specific blogs' plugins screen.

    When I activate bp on one site, it shows up in the plugins folder as activated site wide. I do not see an option of only activating it on a given blog.

    I am running wpmu2.9.1 and bp 1.2beta using subdomains install.

    I have also set bp root blog to all sites…. maybe that is the problem?

    @anointed

    Right now the only way to really have it on some sites and not others is to simply give the sites that don’t want bp a theme that is not bp capable. Then for the sites you want to use bp, simply assign them a theme with the bp functionality in it.

    The problem comes into play in that if site ‘abc’ has bp enabled and so does site ‘xyz’ then site ‘abc’ will see not only their activity/groups/etc but the activity from ‘xyz’ as well. Kind of ruins it. That is why I am trying to figure out how to filter the data output to only data relevant to the site being displayed.

    Not sure what you mean by one template per site. Running bp requires a ton of templates just like the base bp theme has.

    @Headmine — JJJ had responded to some of my prior posts about this same thing, and he believed it is possible. So instead of just flooding him with a bunch of questions I spent the past few weeks reading through the codex and the bp code to see if I could figure it out on my own.

    At this point I am unsure which direction to go, but I’m confident it can be done. Honestly, once people realize what I am asking for I’m pretty certain it will become a highly requested feature.

    In a nutshell it would give us the ability to run our own social networks independent of each other.

    Just so it’s clear why I am trying to do this.

    I host a small amt of client sites on my server. In the past I used to use wordpress non-mu for each site. Frankly I got really tired of having to update 30-40 separate wordpress installs everytime there was a new vs of wp or plugins that were used. That is where wpmu really saved me time, one install one update for all clients.

    I know that I can simply create multiple wpmu/bp installs and give each client their own install, but then I’m in the same boat as before I started using mu.

    Having buddypress the way it is now, there is no way I can see to give each blog that wants their ‘own’ buddypress an install without having to install multiple copies of mu again.

    Having grown accustomed to only having to maintain one codebase has really spoiled me, and I’m willing to do just about anything not to have to go back to the old way of sep installs.

    Turns out nothing was wrong with my theme, I’m just plain stupid sometimes. After going through every troubleshooting step I could think of, it turned out I had simply set that blog to ‘private’ in the privacy settings. Makes perfect sense now that a private non-indexed blog should not show up in bp…. LOL

    @anointed

    Well I have spent the last couple of hours troubleshooting this issue. It turns out it is only one blog on my system that is not posting to the activity stream.

    About the only thing I can see different between that blog and others is that when I go to create an article, give it a title, the permalink is not being auto set before I publish the article. The last few times I saw that issue it was a problem with my theme itself, so I am going to have to dig further into my theme. The weird part is this does not effect any of the functionality of my theme itself. I’ll now go through turning off all plugins and changing themes to verify the issue.

    I know one issue I am having is tons of mod security errors in my log. I’m curious if there are any freelance ‘sysadmins’ here that may have the ability to lend a hand dealing with the mod security part. I know that I don’t want to turn it off, but rather need to come up with a ‘proper’ set of rules for bp itself.
