any reason not to simply use the group blog plugin?
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-groupblog/home/I may be missing something, but from the requirements it seems like a perfect fit…
Wow, thanks for the primer!
I fully plan on digging into ajax this week and you have given me a great start. It actually looks a lot easier than I would have thought from the snippets you provided, it actually now makes sense to me. I can tell this is going to be fun.Love the ajax addition. Do you happen to have any code snippets you could share?
I’m only just beginning to work with ajax but have a lot of experience with bp.Nice site btw, very very clean layout, and easy to follow

This plugin sounds like a great idea. I would love to beta test when it becomes available.I would be interested to hear more about the project. I already run 123flashchat software, and absolutely love it. It is not currently integrated into bp, but it could be. I run a flash comm cluster in order to use the video chat and live video broadcasting. I would warn people first, that bandwidth is a huge issue with video.
What is the actual problem with subdomains?
Might help me to know what the issue is before trying to fix it.
thnx

My bad.. I knew about the plugins at wp, thought maybe you had an svn setup for nightly builds or something. For awhile there, I was downloading a new vs. almost every day from the gsoc svn. Sorry for the confusion@kunalb
Where are the plugin repos located?still working great for me.

worked for me just fine.
Nice little plugin there!
–how about using modals instead of full window pop ups?
I would absolutely love to hear how you solved this problem and built the multisite recipe component with global searching. I’m trying to do something similar where each site has a custom post-type ‘testimonials’. I want to pull them all into a ‘root page’ as well where they can also be searched.
I was going to use the sitewide tags plugin, but it does not seem to work at all with custom post-types yet. Not to mention it would be overkill for my needs.
Would you care to share a few code snippets?
thanks for your time
@kunalb
I have a semi-virgin wp 3.0.1 multisite subdomain install of bp 1.2branch if you need somewhere to do further testing. Primarily I am just using it for testing gsoc projects on, so damaging it won’t matter. It’s a dedicated server, so you have the resources needed. Simply get me your email address if your interested and I’ll send over ftp and login info. (it’s the least I can do to help out)Yes, eventpress is seriously a killer plugin. Having a lot of fun playing with it already. People are going to LOVE this one!
U Da man!
Look forward to chatting more about it some time.@JJJ
Isn’t this almost exactly what you proposed yourself a number of months ago? I seem to remember reading a track ticket or something on this exact same concept. Curious if anything ever happened with this idea.If you are on shared hosting accounts, you will need to check and make sure that your ip address is not blacklisted on the major email filter systems. The problem with almost all shared hosting setups is they share ip’s among many sites. It could be a completely separate site using the ip that is blacklisted, which will affect you. Many hosts like dreamhost have entire blocks of ip’s that are blacklisted, and just because the domain name on the ip changes, it does not remove the blacklisted ip. I can almost guarantee that is the root cause of most people’s problems as I had the same problem years back. It was only after I went dedicated and purchased ‘clean’ blocks of ip’s that all my problems went away.

If you need access let me know where to send a temp pass for you. I have activations turned off, so there is no real way for you to test it out publicly.Yes, I must have a conflict somewhere, it’s a new install so will remove the patches and start over to get bp-multi working. No big deal there as I have it working on my live sites already.
I really look forward to your plugin someday. When your ready let me know and I’ll help with the beta. Heck if it’s a small project, I would be willing to help pay for the development in some fashion. Anything to not have to keep maintaining so many separate wp installs would be a dream for me. I really wouldn’t mind even if I had to maintain my own vs. of bp until the patch is added. There are so few changes needed that updating would be no big deal.
thanks again
Yes I have enable multiblog set to true in the config file.
I’m guessing that I must have misunderstood the patch. I thought by installing bp with the patch included in all the files that it would allow each of my multisite blogs to have their own ‘instance’ of bp. After looking through the db though, I can see that a new ‘instance’ of bp tables are not spawned for each blog.
Still continuing in the quest to run a single install of wp-multi where each of my blogs can have their own ‘instance’ of bp, basically bp-mu. Thought at first glance that this patch did that.
Sorry for the confusion. Thank you so much for responding though, it’s greatly appreciated.
–praying for the day that I can finally get back to one install of wp for all my clients. Many of them want bp, so unfortunately I am back to having to manage a bunch of separate wp installs. Just makes updating and maintaining everything very time-consuming.
–curious if you are actually developing a plugin to implement the social network segregation or not. Spoke to JJJ a long time ago, but it has since dropped off his radar due to his workload.
Sometimes it can be funny to realize that the solution to a problem is right under your nose and you don’t see it..lol
We just went through a huge fundraising effort to send a group of kids in the church to a missions trip to Haiti. Of course we did it the old-fashioned way and that was more work than it ever should have been. I love the idea of using bp for this. It would have saved a ton of work on the admin end and would have given the children pages they could have sent to relatives etc.
Anyhow, great idea for extending bp! (if it ever becomes a plugin, I’d definitely be interested)
When I visit the page to edit the group css in any group I get the following js error:
(I am using a custom theme with a few plugins)jQuery(“.colourpalette li”).tooltip is not a function
[Break on this error] fade: 50thank you!

Love the events system, esp the widget!. I already own gravity and use it for ‘testimony’ submission. Is your events system something you are willing to share for those of us that already use gravity?Thank you for the plugin. It is a great start and will solve many issues I have also been facing.
