On that demouser01 profile page, you should see where the Achievements link is forced to a second line but it’s still following the CSS positioning. If you visit another member page, you don’t see that error. I’m assuming that’s because you don’t see the Notifications link on other members profiles.

I’m trying to remember how I did it on another Buddypress site where I was able to force all of the plugin links, like Achievements, into a second line so that the first line remains with all of the default links. I did that about 2-3 years ago and that since has since floated away into the aether. So dunno if it’s even possible anymore with recent changes to Buddypress.

Hope there’s a solution to be had. (But thinking about it, it would be awesome if there was a plugin that could me made for custom WP themes that would allow you to position links in the order and places you’d like.)

Apparently the Edit Post link at the bottom here doesn’t work, so I’ll just add more in a new post:

I know that editing the “float: left;” to “float: none;” in the CSS will put each link on a new line, but that’s really ugly. I’m looking to have like 5 links per line.

I haven’t updated because I use so many custom bits. But seeing as how so many things changed, I have to ask… why?

Didn’t 1.5 make significant changes to custom BuddyPress usernames, only to remove it in 1.6 to use the default WordPress naming scheme? So this means we’re back to lowercase names?

I can understand making changes to previously broken code, but when other thing aren’t broken, why fix them?

Your plugin was actually the first thing I tried when I noticed the problem. It’s still running on my site with the core links in the order I chose, however, it’s not seeming to put them in any order.

I was going to try and sleep on it then try to figure it out, but I can’t get to sleep knowing I have this problem. It’s my bit of OCD I suppose.

I think the main problem is that the Gantry for BuddyPress and RocketTheme template framework removes a lot of the WordPress code and replaces it with standard html in their own files. Not sure if that makes any sense… lack of sleep and all.

I didn’t know if there was any way to use a bp-custom.php to manually make the changes to the core or the additional plugin links?

I deleted the 6 folders, as I edited some files previously, then went into Appearance>BP Compatibility. I didn’t see an option to re-run it. There was an option to reset it so I clicked it but it brought me back to step 3 and the folders were not recreated.

Should I uninstall the plugin then reinstall it?

@mercime, I found something interesting…

So I created a page called “test”. While I was creating the page, I noticed in the Page Attributes that there are three options: Default Template, BuddyPress – Activity Directory, and Sidebar Template.

When I saved as Activity Directory, the page showed up like my members page with the sidebar under the content. When I saved as Sidebar Template, the sidebar showed up correctly like it does on the homepage. When I tried to save as Default Template, I got a 406 error.

Is my thinking wrong that when BuddyPress created the members pages, it saved them as Default Template as it had no way of knowing that there were options for the page saves?

The even more strange part is when I go into the BuddyPress created Members Page, I can save as Sidebar Template and BuddyPress – Activity Directory, but no matter what it’s saved at, it doesn’t change. The looks of the design stays the same. (Also, I think that the “default template” is just the Activity Directory template.)

So, I have no clue on what to do. I can’t seem to save/change the Page Attributes of the BuddyPress created pages.

Also, I’ve noticed that with the most recent WordPress update, I’ve been getting more and more 406 errors. Is this something I should contact my hosting company about?

@karmatosed, the issue is that, for me at least, the template pack instructions are too vague. It basically says that if you have issues with alignment, to look at your themes page.php and your activity/index.php (and all other buddypress created indexes) and figure it out.

The template pack instructions give you a second option: copy and rename your themes header.php, footer.php, and sidebar.php to header-buddypress.php, footer-buddypress.php, and sidebar-buddypress.php.

Well, then what? There are no files in buddypress to replace a header-buddypress.php. The instructions just end and don’t give the average user any idea of what needs to be replaced and where. Granted, every theme is different, but they don’t even give you a general idea. Just a vague description of a solution.

I tried editing what I thought the template pack asked to do wut it didn’t work. I tried other methods posted that worked for others. None worked. I’m not sure where to go.

ok, seriously stumped on this one. visited a bunch of sites that tell you how to change the admin bar, and looked at base BuddyPress files and have no idea how to add site-wide notifications to the BuddyBar. Anyone have any clues?

Thanks for the reply, @djpaul. The only thing I’ve seen recently was for something called BP Group-O-Matic but that seems only to assign groups to join for people that search for a topic.

That seems like it would be my next choice to use if I can’t find something exactly like Extended Profiles. While that allows the creation of more custom fields, it leaves the types of fields up to the user. I’m looking to be able to, as the admin, create the custom fields that are available to all groups, in the same fashion as the Extended Profiles custom fields.

I’ll look into this one a bit more.

This is exactly what I’m looking for! While it would be nice to add an @tag to the Wire, I’m not savy enough to know how to do that. So this should suffice.

Now to figure out how to rename Wire to “Member Comments”. I’ve seen in the readme.txt :

`Changing label for wire, either use language file or use the following code in bp-custom.php
define(“BP_WIRE_LABEL,”Your wire label”);`

That doesn’t seem to work for me. Might be due to my RocketTheme theme. Tried changing the language file but that was a no-go as well.

Are you using the default WP theme or a custom theme?

I had the same issue (https://buddypress.org/community/groups/requests-feedback/forum/topic/feature-requset-global-rename-abilty-for-the-word-group/) and I was given a number of solutions. A few replies down, Paul Gibbs showed how to change/make a new language file. That should work.

My problem was that I was using a custom theme and the theme files had to be edited. Hopefully you’ll find what you need at the link I posted. Good luck!

Anyone? This is kind of a big issue, not just with my site but anyone that has extended profiles activated. If you can delete a Primary/Required field, that’s big in itself. But if it can be automatically re-added by disabling/enabling XProfiles, and it doesn’t sync up when it’s re-enabled, then most people will not know there is an issue till it’s too late.

Since I disabled Extended Profiles then Re-enabled it, numerous times, I now have 8 (eight) Name (Primary)(Required) fields in the extended profiles area that do not sync up nor can they be deleted.

@DJPaul, I’m still having this problem described in my previous post. While the Name (Primary) (Required) returned after I re-enabled Extended Profiles, it’s not correctly linked to the actual WordPress naming system.

If a user registers with the username “william” and they put “Bill” as the Name (Primary) (Required) their username and nicename both show as “william.” Then if the user goes into the settings to change their name to, say Toby, they get this on the BuddyPress profile page:

If I’m not mistaken, the Name and Nicename should automatically be changed to display the same name, just with the @ before the nicename?

Is there any way to re-add the original files without reinstalling BuddyPress so that it correctly links up?

I’m looking at this bit from the Gantry-BuddyPress plugin and it shows this:

bp_group_member_count();

What BuddyPress files would I find those in?

Well, after hours and hours, I’ve gone through and find/replaced what I needed. Seems that RocketTheme’s Gantry-BuddyPress plugin doesn’t use the exact code to call for the language files. It was all written in html.

I’ve also changed the language files incase they left some of the original BuddyPress code in.

I am stumped on one thing, and this should be the last I need changed in regards to the design of my site.

I’ve been able to change the Groups Directory to Guilds Directory as well the majority of Groups to Guilds. The only things that I haven’t found are what the search box on the groups page lists and the part that lists “Public Group / *** member” listed to the right of the group info.

I’ve gone though every file in Gantry-BuddyPress plugin, and the theme files as well as the BuddyPress plugin folder and I can’t find anything that lists “Search Groups…”, I’ve found “Public Group” in a lot of files and changed them, but after uploading the files the site does not reflect the change.

Oh nice. So if I copy my original language file, I can edit the word “Groups” and change it to “Guilds” and it will replace them all? I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Need some sleep so trying now probably isn’t the best idea.

I tried the find/replace before and it made the changes I needed, just that when I updated buddypress it replaced all the files I edited.

While that changed the Slug name for me, it didn’t change the “name” name.

I dunno what the actual word for what I’m trying to describe is, so here’s an example:

When I go to mysite.com/guilds (the slug name I chose for groups), I get the following text:
“Groups Directory”, “Create a Group” and “Search Groups.” Then there are the other bits of text like “Viewing Group” “Public Group” “My Groups” and “All Groups.”

I tried addding, in the cp-custom.php, define ( ‘BP_GROUPS_NAME”, ‘Guilds’ ); just in the chance that it would change the name Groups to Guilds. Well, it didn’t work.

I don’t know if there is a code for that. I looked on the link you provided and it didn’t mention what I’m looking for.
