In reply to: Userblogs also with buddypress?
It’s not really possible to have multiple BuddyPress networks running from the same WordPress installation (though it might be possible some day down the road). Your users will have to be satisfied with their own groups, or they’ll have to install BuddyPress on their own WP installation.
In reply to: Send invites for groupOut of the box, BuddyPress only lets you send group invitations to people you’re friends with. It’s a spam prevention measure. If you want to bypass it, install Invite Anyone https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invite-anyone/.
Try renaming your wp-content/plugins directory (to something like plugins-backup) in order to get your dashboard back. Once you do, visit Dashboard > Plugins so that WP automatically deactivates your plugins. Then name plugins-backup back to plugins in order to see your plugins again. Reactivate them one at a time, making sure to activate BuddyPress *before* any BP-dependent plugins
The problem is being caused by the default filters that BP applies to ‘xprofile_get_field_data’. If you put the following lines in your bp-custom.php or functions.php, it will allow you to print_r the array properly:
`remove_filter( ‘xprofile_get_field_data’, ‘wp_filter_kses’, 1 );
remove_filter( ‘xprofile_get_field_data’, ‘force_balance_tags’ );
remove_filter( ‘xprofile_get_field_data’, ‘stripslashes’ );`I’m not sure what the root issue is, though. I assume the problem is that wp_filter_kses etc don’t know what to do with an array. If that’s true, we’re going to have to figure out a way to sanitize profile data selectively (or at least smartly). I’ll look more deeply at the problem to see if I can come up with a better solution for BP core.
In reply to: Plugin DependenciesWow, this is awesome, @scribu. Thanks for posting about it here. I’ll give it a test this week.
In reply to: Invite members to a hidden groupConsider using a plugin like Invite Anyone wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invite-anyone to get around this restriction.
If everyone’s going to be friends with everyone else, I’d suggest just turning the Friends component off since it won’t be doing anything interesting. Dashboard > BuddyPress > Component Setup
As for groups, you have a few options. If you make all groups public, then everyone will have access to everything. And if you hide all of the “my groups” and “join this group” buttons in the theme, people will never know (or care!) whether they’re a part of groups. They’ll just be auto-joined if they choose to post on the forums. A different method is to modify something like this: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/auto-join-groups/
In reply to: Add Author Bio to PostMight be a bit more straightforward to do something like this:
displayed_user->id ); echo $bio; Before echoing the bio, you could try doing something like http://phpsense.com/php/php-word-splitter.html to truncate.
Good luck!
In reply to: I cannot post forum topics?I have been trying to help you!
Try Dashboard > BuddyPress > Forum Setup and then reinstall and set up a new bbPress installation. It sounds like something is wrong with your bb-config.php.
If nothing else works, and you don’t yet have any content in your installation anyway, you should consider wiping your database and starting from scratch. Clearly something has happened that is keeping BP from communicating with your bbPress database tables.
In reply to: I cannot post forum topics?Try toggling the ‘Enable discussion forum’ option on the group settings to see what happens. Group > Admin > Group Settings. Uncheck the discussion forum option, save settings. Then re-check, and save again.
In theory, that should kickstart the process of setting a forum that corresponds to your group.
In reply to: I cannot post forum topics?OK, at least that narrows down the issue.
What other plugins are you using? What theme? Try creating a new group with all plugins other than BP deactivated, and using the bp-default theme, and then try to post in that new group’s forum.
In reply to: is bp-dev.org dead?Yeah, and most of the plugins would take a pretty fair amount of overhauling to bring back up to snuff with modern versions of BP.
That said, some of them would be really nice. The AJAX search/autosuggest was very slick, for instance. I heartily encourage some kind-hearted soul to upgrade the lot of them
In reply to: Remove Sitewide ActivityAs @rogercoathup suggested, you should open up header.php in your child theme, find the code that creates the Activity tab, and delete it.
If you don’t yet have header.php in your child theme, you’ll have to copy it here. More on BP child themes: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: I cannot post forum topics?@holisticmama Given what you’ve described, it sounds like the forum_id for your groups hasn’t been saved correctly. In PHPMyAdmin, look inside wp_bp_groups_groupmeta to see if there are any items with the meta_key ‘forum_id’.
In reply to: Creating different types of usersAt the moment, I don’t know a plugin that can do it. A plugin *could* do it, though, by following something like the following setup:
– Modify the registration templates to include Player/Team/Sponsor dropdown
– Hook a function to `bp_core_signup_user` that gets that information out of the $_POST global and saves it with update_user_meta()
– Hook into some of the profile display load_template functions (such as `xprofile_template_display_profile`) to swap out the templates based on the usermeta, which you’d load with get_user_meta()Such a plugin would take some time to build well, but would be really useful to a lot of people. Good luck!
In reply to: I cannot post forum topics?Just to be clear: Did you click “Set up a new bbPress installation” at Dashboard > BuddyPress > Forum Setup?
Is there a bb-config.php file in the root of your WP installation? (It should have been created automatically when you did the initial setup.) If so, does it contain the correct database connection information? Do you have access to the database so that you can check whether the tables exist (they should start with wp_bb_)? Is this problem occurring with newly created groups as well as older groups?
Thanks guys! We’re both very excited.
In reply to: Group invitations to members who aren’t friendsSearch the WordPress plugin repository for Invite Anyone. That’ll let you do it.
In reply to: How to invite? probably stupidBuddyPress doesn’t do this out of the box. That’s why the plugin Invite Anyone exists. Why don’t you want to use it?
@hnla Of course, it would have to be optional. Generally I think this points to a larger issue of BP data portability – but that’s probably a collection of tickets

It’s not possible (without doing some fancy MySQL work), but it’s a really nice idea (kinda like how WP handles user content when the user is deleted). Maybe you could file an enhancement ticket on http://trac.buddypress.org?
In reply to: User BlogsIs the blog set to be fully public at Dashboard > Settings > Privacy?
In reply to: Admin bar login redirects to 404What plugins are you using? Does the problem persist when you enable bp-default instead of your custom theme?
In reply to: New Buddypress Theme: Custom Community – 1.0I like it. Thanks for sharing.
In reply to: User BlogsHm. It almost sounds like the blog isn’t being created completely. Are you running any plugins aside from BuddyPress? Are you able to create new blogs through the Dashboard > Super Admin > Sites interface?
