In reply to: Buddypress on Multisite
What happens with your blog Themes? Do they do not work, or is the display messed up? BuddyPress and MultiSite should work fine and your WordPress themes on sub blogs should display fine with the addition of the Admin bar at the top.
If you want a theme that matches your main blog you can adept the default theme to become a regular WordPress Theme or look at themes that do this for you
In reply to: More of the Crop Problem!S2Member is not the problem.. Unless you do not use the regular BuddyPress signup option and only allow people to signup through a S2Member registration form.
The avatar upload step should always appear. You might have a jQuery conflict but even then you should SEE the upload process, you just would not be able to crop your avatar after upload.
In reply to: BP Member FilterBP Profile Search is indeed a very nice plugin and I’m using it on BP-Tricks as well.. looking forward to a new release!

In reply to: Buddyvents 1.2.2Really impressive to see how fast this plugin progresses! Buying it now

@Hnla: Thanks guys.. Especially that topic solved it
I did use the search functions and checked the conditional tags in the codex (have that bookmarked) but I could not get it to work as hoped. This should help get me started!Solved it.. I did need to create anew page template for my activity stream because that was not picked up for some reason. My code:

I agree with @hnla.. I’ve made a pretty nice pre-sales forum here: http://bp-tricks.com/themes/pre-sales-questions/forum/
I would gladly explain more about the features and tell you more.
@whitbyglennk: the demo you saw was from BP-Minimal, a FREE theme to be released soon. BP-Slick is a different Premium Theme and a feature overview can be viewed here: http://bp-tricks.com/purchase-bp-slick/. I can safely say that it’s the most feature rich premium BuddyPress theme too date, but you have to decide for yourself if you think it’s worth it. If you have any questions just let me know ok ? Also upgrades are indeed free and new styles and color variations can be submitted by the community in the support group. There will also be templates for popular 3rd Party Plugins. I do not believe in monthly subscriptions and the theme will be upgrade free for as long as BuddyPress keeps using the Parent-Child Theme structure (which will be forever I presume)
@Pisanojm: Check out BP-Tricks.com which runs on BP-Slick and check out the demo http://bp-tricks.com/demo and select the “BP-Slick Theme” in the sidebar to view the demo!
Yep.. Although it does not do everything straight out of the box.
You can create a Group where you can give support etc. The add the great “BuddyPress Group Documents” plugin to list your downloads. You can even let members of the group submit their own files (if you wish). You can extend your groups with Bug reporting and a task manager plugin named BP GTM System.
This should get you started!
In reply to: CSS mystery…edit: never mind. solve it yourself
In reply to: If Buddypress, then sidebar and css rulesWhat Roger says is right.. that’s the way to go.. you can also use the conditional tags to display certain sidebars on certain components only:
`
<?php /* GROUP SIDEBAR */ if(bp_is_group()){
if(!dynamic_sidebar(“Group Sidebar”)){
?>
`
It’s a great way to make your site more dynamic!There is a job posting plugin in the works by @travel-junkie.. check out http://test.jobboardr.com/
I think you need to pay a bit for the plugin but his work and support makes it worth it (imo).
Hi guys,
I would like to let everyone know that the demo is now available here: http://bp-tricks.com/demo/
If you have any pre-sale questions you can ask them here: http://bp-tricks.com/themes/pre-sales-questions/forum/,It’s what they call a soft launch, the actual Tips and Tricks community is launching as soon as possible
You can start submitting your Tricks if you want on http://bp-tricks.com/submit-a-trick.That’s it for now

@skolbloggense: BP-Slick uses the same BuddyPress translation strings so the theme should just work fine with your Translation. The only thing that is not yet translated is the menu navigation. But that can all be found in one file, which is organized and very easy to edit. I think it will take you about 10 mins to translate it!
I will add po/mo files to the theme pretty soon (to make upgrading easier, so you won’t lose changes) but right now it’s yet added
The Theme is now for sale btw.. It can be purchased with 20% discount until the end of the week: http://bp-tricks.com/purchase-bp-slick/.Here’s the sales page with it’s features: http://bp-tricks.com/pre-order-bp-slick/. And a short video on how to get it running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMb7tXXV6Rw&feature=player_embedded
In reply to: not able to change h2like hnla said
It’s probably being overwritten by a different selector.Looking at your page, you probably want to change the post title… try to put this in your custom.css file:
.pagetitle {
font-size: 22px;
}@PJnu: Yep so far I’ve tried a bunch of popular plugins and they work and look fine! BP-Slick is a Child Theme of the standard Theme and inherits a lot of it’s templates. The templates I’ve added are build with the same classes and template structure so this means that all plugins which are developed for BP-Default (I think all plugins are) are working fine.
Plugins that are really extensive (BP-Media, CourseWare etc) might require some additional styling, but these modifications can be shared in the support group. Everyone who has bought the plugin can upload/download new templates, styles and tweaks for the Theme. So if something does not behave as expected, chances are that me (or someone else) has fixed it and has put it up for grabs in the “goodies” section of the support group!

1: No you can keep the same membership page! Just fill in the ID of that page on the S2Member Theme Options page. By using a very simple plugin (included with your purchase) this page will then be added to a person’s profile. So basically it’s a nice wrapper to show the membership page inside someone’s profile. I did not want to mess with the brilliant S2Member plugin, and this is a nice solution.
2: See answer one.. Since S2Member can be used for so many different things I focused on adding:
– an extra template for the welcome page with some nice tabs (shown on the bp-tricks homepage right now)
– a sidebar for that page
– Profile integration
– Some nice shortcodes to create cool looking buttons
– A welcome page template to get people startedSo the changes are mostly aimed at making your sales/welcome page look awesome, add a nice membership section to profiles and allow you to quickly set everything up. S2Member remains intact and is not “messed” with.
3: Nope! Although most question you might have should be answered in the docs

Hope this answers your questions!
In reply to: Blog section isn’t workingHave you enable Multisite on your wordpress install? Blogs are only enabled if you use multisite:
Sorry for the double post guys!
@skolbloggense: I’ve been looking into CourseWare and it seems to behave great under BP-Slick. There are a few css styling hickups and I will look into them on a later date, but it is certainly usable straight away without any major problems. I did add a new option to the theme options panel which allows you to make Theme fluid. This means it will expand on higher screen resolutions (like the standard theme does as well) and communities who use courseware should benefit from this, because it looks less crammed. A screenshot:

In reply to: BP site painfully slow….I really don’t know.. I’m a complete server n00b to be honest.. With my limited knowledge nothing really sticks out as a problem.. that’s why I gave up.. maybe an expert has an idea?
In reply to: BP site painfully slow….It’s a weird problem indeed.. Looking at your site in firebug (using the “net” tab) I see one certain element popping out which seems to be the cause of the problem. This are the details:

I’ve seen this on my site as well (the very long response time on initial page load) and I have almost exactly the same setup as yours. I “solved” the problem by adding more Ram to my server, and could not find the problem (if there actually is one).Good luck
In reply to: Get non-activated usersI think we can continue this “debate” through our profile stream, no problem hnla, you can leave your moderator hat off for today. If you REALLY want to act tough and show your power, I could write another post and throw around some abuse towards some BP.org mods (Be ready Paul).
ontopic: It is an awesome snippet.. Like so many of Boris his snippets are pretty much awesome (which reminds me that I still need to hire him for awesome stuff
)In reply to: Get non-activated usersHi @rogercoathup,
Woow you almost make me feel guilty now! You make a few valid points, and I think the “problem” is that bp-tricks.com currently shows a big homepage offering my theme, while the actual community is not yet online. This might give you the impression it’s purely about business and making profit, and that is certainly not the case. It’s hard to defend myself when I only have a pre-order page to show, but if you read my reply here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/bp-slick-probably-the-best-bp-theme-ive-ever-seen/#post-73078 you hopefully have a better idea of what I’m trying to do.
I’ve been on this forums for a long time, and I’ve come across so many awesome tips and tricks which are only seen by a few, and lost for so many. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked for a tricks which I KNOW is here somewhere, but impossible to find back. That’s how BP-Tricks was born, and it will hopefully become a very nice resource for buddypress users. No ads, only BuddyPress related content, and no subscription models or anything like that. If you want to purchase a premium theme you can, and you’ll receive support for that, but it will not be promoted with ads or constant posts about why you should buy a Premium Theme or anything.
I hope that BP-Tricks becomes something like WooThemes or NetTuts.. have a huge bunch of cool resources and free stuff, while at the same time providing good support and nice designs/themes for people who wish to use that service. I personally have no problems with these kinds of services as long as you strike a balance between offering awesome stuff for free, and asking some money for certain services (in my case a Theme).
This has become quite a long reply
sorry for that
