The bp-default theme that ships with BP is being retired so in the future there will not be a theme that ships with BP in favor of theme compatibility. There is no point in creating a BuddyPress theme any more since 1.7 see:

any theme that has standard WordPress template structure is compatible so basically all you have to do is create a standard WordPress theme.

Sounds cool if there was a box or something beside each field in the dashboard/profile fields for admins to choose to be linkable.

Have you perhaps tried several different browsers and see if the error persists?

If you followed the instructions you shouldn’t have an issue. I always translate on my local dev environment and then FTP it to the live server. If you feel uncomfortable doing this then you may want to consider hiring someone to do it for you. I would still like to see at least some basic BP site privacy built into the core so I can eventually retire some plugins I did because I don’t have as much time to support them as I used too. I guess I could put them up for adoption.

What do you mean member icon? Can you provide a screenshot? Please list what WP/BP versions, theme, and plugins you are using.

They would have to have activated and logged into the account for them to see BP content using my plugin so no, just registering would not unblock the BP content. There is really no way of differentiating who is a spammer and who is not once they are logged in so it would be up to you to moderate. Good luck!
