BTW you really need to assign a front page in Dashboard/Settings/Reading because landing on a page not found is not very enticing! In reply to: Gmail inviter@marathifacebook
Could be your server is useless at sending out the invites. Some are so you may want to check that out!In reply to: How Do I Hide Extended Profile Fileds from Users@nobodymove
Have you tried reverting to twenty twelve theme or bp-default theme to see if your issue persists?
If so then try bulk deactivating all those plugins other than BuddyPress and then reactivate each one individually and test if the issue you are having persists against each one of those plugins as you reactive them individually. I know it sounds tedious but this is pretty basic troubleshooting procedure to narrow down if it is a theme or plugin causing the issue. If you find that it is a theme or plugin then report it to the respective author so they may check and make any adjustments necessary. If the issue persists after this procedure and you have not been able to narrow down the culprit then please report back here.In reply to: How Do I Hide Extended Profile Fileds from Users@nobodymove
This is not default behavior. Please see:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/when-asking-for-support-2/
And supply all the info you can regarding your install! In reply to: [Resolved] Buddy Registration Link@disqusnow
If you add this code to the text widget it will work. I just noticed your register slug is different so I adjusted the code below. Tested and works!<?php if ( !is_user_logged_in() ) { ?><a href="<?php echo (bloginfo('url') . '/register-2');?> ">Register</a><?php } else { echo "Welcome Back"; } ?>In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
Makes sense to me. I had been doing that but as I have browsed through other plugins code I have noticed a number of them adding the add_actions near the bottom unless like you said they are within a function. I appreciate you letting me know the correct WP standards because it is cleaner and easier than scrolling up and down and searching for its function. I will make that change immediately and thank you again for the advice! In reply to: show header item when user not login in buddypress@maan18
I am not certain I understand your requirement but you can try:

This will fix you up as long as you added that code to enable php in widgets!<?php if ( !is_user_logged_in() ) { ?><a href="<?php echo (bloginfo('url') . '/register');?> ">Register</a><?php } else { echo "Welcome Back"; } ?>In reply to: Confusing members – Space in User Registration@marbler

This is what I am adding in the loader.php per your advice. I hope it looks good. I have tested it and I get the effect I want so thank you for the advice./*** Make sure BuddyPress is loaded ********************************/ function private_community_for_bp_lite_bp_check() { if ( !class_exists( 'BuddyPress' ) ) { add_action( 'admin_notices', 'private_community_for_bp_lite_install_buddypress_notice' ); } } function private_community_for_bp_lite_install_buddypress_notice() { echo '<div id="message" class="error fade"><p style="line-height: 150%">'; _e('<strong>Private Community For BP Lite</strong></a> requires the BuddyPress plugin to work. I can understand that. It is better for everyone. Once I downloaded a plugin that was supposed to let you have conditional profile fields or something to that effect and it did not even work at all so I can appreciate them taking a closer look before blindly allowing a useless plugin on the repository. Anyway I will be making the changes you suggested after I go out and get my lunch. Thanks again for the advice! In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
Actually I didn’t get rejected. They are just swamped at the moment with plugin reviews. I am not rejecting your examples either to the contrary I am actually going to take your advice. My point is that there really needs to be documentation to reflect that there is higher expectations
in place now in the codex and here:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/about/
because I have the requirements that it states. Please do no think I am being negative or unappreciative of you or the other volunteers on the review panel. I just think that everyone developing plugins need to be aware that the bar is being raised a bit so they can follow the advice as you have given before they submit the plugin for review. Thanks! In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
I don’t understand what the point of giving a notice is if my plugin has the requirement met.
Mika E. pretty much said the same thing, but that is not how I want it to work and these people reviewing need to understand that. I want that notice to only display if BP is NOT activated period and it already does. I don’t see other developers getting this much hassle and though your point is well taken it should still not be a requirement until steps are taken to convey this requirement in the codex! Thanks! In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
I probably will but this shouldn’t be a requirement especially when people fart out little dinky plugins and they don’t get half of the hassle I have gotten from the review panel. I don’t get why they are telling me how to code my plugin. It is my choice how to to code it and as long as it works and does not contain malicious code then it should be approved. I think I have made a valid point! Is there some high expectation of a plugin that does what mine does because conceptually it was pretty simple? In reply to: BuddyPress Lke Plugin Updated@darrenmeehan
Alright, then I will test it out and supply feedback. I have a plugin as well that has been submitted to the repo in the last 4 days that is yet to be approved but I could also use some others testing and supplying feedback. You can get it here: https://github.com/bphelp/private_community_for_bp_lite
Thanks! In reply to: BuddyPress Lke Plugin Updated@darrenmeehan
I would be glad to test it out and give feedback. Is the github repo the most current version you have?In reply to: BuddyPress Lke Plugin Updated@darrenmeehan
I think if an author abandoned a plugin for several years then they should give you commit access but that is just my opinion. I suppose the only way around it then is to fork it because it is GPL. Why not just call it BuddyPress Like Plus? Either way I think the improvements you made are pretty cool. So thank you for your hard work! 🙂In reply to: BuddyPress Lke Plugin Updated@darrenmeehan
I mean when are you going to fork it and have it on the WordPress repository, or have you gained permission from the original author to overtake the updates? I really would like to see this on the repository! Thanks! In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
I have tested the plugin:
https://github.com/bphelp/private_community_for_bp_lite
As is it works as expected. If BuddyPress is installed and activated then the notice does not appear, however if you try installing the plugin without BuddyPress installed and activated then the notice appears. Can you test it so you will see what I mean because it simply works! In reply to: BuddyPress Lke Plugin Updated@darrenmeehan
Any idea to the availability. Sounds cool and useful! In reply to: Creating New Plugins@bphelp
Note to myself:
Never dabble in building themes, because 10 fold sounds excruciating! LOL!In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
I see your point but I don’t really see the point of over-complicating this very simple plugin without a valid reason. The functionality is there so I think it should be left as is unless you have an argument with some valid points to make me understand it a little better. Either way I really do appreciate your input and I am not saying that method is not good, I just want to know how it really benefits the end user or the difference this would make? Thanks again! In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper
Yes I am familiar with wrapping everything in a class. I have used this method in a small plugin I have on github. I appreciate the advice again!
P.S. I have your site listed on my blog as a place to get awesome premium BP plugins so I hope you don’t mind. http://bphelpblog.wordpress.com/In reply to: Where Is The Settings For Registration@pewee123
Dashboard/Settings/General and beside Membership check the box that anyone can register.
Note:
This setting really should be checked before installing BuddyPress because if not it will not automatically create the register and activate pages upon activation. In reply to: Creating New Plugins@modemlooper @hnla
Thank you guys for pointing that out. I will start using this as a standard practice in the future. I still believe there needs to be concise documentation in the codex so other new developers can follow these practices and to be consistent and it should really come from someone with more experience when they have time to update it. I really appreciate all the invaluable advice you have given.
Thanks a million guys, you rock!
