    What extra file? Are you referring to the loader.php? If that is the case then the example you provided above makes no sense. Why would I require private-community-for-bp-lite.php? Are you suggesting I do away with the loader.php and add the example you provided in the main plugins private-community-for-bp-lite.php file as well as the required plugin header info or am I missing something? This is different than my usual workflow so it seems strange to me. I guess you can require a file from within a file but doesn’t it seem redundant? I really do not see what difference it makes. The plugin works as expected either way. So the hold up with the review panel is kinda tedious. Is this some new way of streamlining plugins for consistency or am I missing something that is required? To me it seems any advantages to this approach you offered are negligible and it apparently still has not made any difference in the approval status. Keep in mind this is the first plugin I have released to the WP repo because I am still new to adding the admin settings but what I have works so far and saves the settings to the database so I don’t see what the problem is! Thanks again!

    Yeah it pretty much does the same thing in a simpler form, but hopefully they will approve it as I took your advice. I really don’t see why my plugin is being scrutinized because there is lots of simpler, and even more complex BP plugins on the repo that doesn’t check for BP, or give a notice that BP is required for it to work. Some of the plugins are basically just a function with an add action or filter hook with the required plugin header. Maybe the standards are being raised which I suppose is a good thing. Anyway thank you for the advice given.

    Just wondering if you could supply some feedback. You may want to download and install it again from the same link. I made some minor changes but it really doesn’t add anything more then what I had but they are using me as a test monkey I suppose with the wp plugin review panel. It works great on 4 different installations I have and I would appreciate your feedback. Keep in mind I intentionally did not block wordpress pages, just the BP ones, but you also have the option to unblock activity for instance. I may however make some changes depending on the feedback given.
    Thanks!

    So is this a new requirement to get a plugin approved to the repository? It would be nice to have this in the codex as a reference in the future if so. Thanks!

    I agree there needs sorting out and consistency in how to check for BP etc.
    I just got an email from Mika E one of the plugin reviewers and she says

    But … why?

    BuddyPress has loader actions you can hook into: https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/buddypress/trunk/bp-core/bp-core-actions.php#L34

    (I’m sitting next to JJJ right now and he pointed this out). So you don’t have to call loader.php, which is slower in the long run, and instead you hook into BP at the appropriate point.

    The whole thing it looks like you’re doing is adding this action:

    add_action( ‘admin_notices’, ‘private_community_for_bp_lite_install_buddypress_notice’ );

    And you want to only add that notice IF BuddyPress is loaded, right? So why not the smaller check? If you do that, you won’t have to call bp-loader, because you’re hooking in after it’s loaded.

    Why would I want my install buddypress notice to display if they have buddypress installed and the requirement for BP is met? That makes no sense. Right now it is setup to display only if someone using wordpress does not have BP installed and activated which is what it does and should do correct?
    I don’t get it! Any of you guys have advice?
    Thanks again!

    I just checked using the advice you have given and moved the check to the main loader file and for some reason it does make a difference because now the message is displayed as expected if BP is not installed so I’ll consider this the best practice in the future. I wonder if I should contact someone that does the plugin reviews so they can re-check it now that its up to par?
    Thanks again for your advice Hugo! Thank you as well @henrywright-1 !

    Sorry I posted in the wrong place, can you kindly move it to creating and extending.

    Please don’t troll your own thread and don’t take what @hnla said as an attack towards your intelligence.
    It was just a recommendation, not an attack. If your upset about him closing another thread that posed the same questions basically then don’t be. It is common for a forum with threads with duplicate content or support requests to lock duplicate posts. Sometimes duplicates happen by accident if you loose a wifi connection for instance and refresh after you reconnect because sometimes it will post the same topic twice.
    For future reference try not to take things to personally as all of the volunteers do the best we can at accommodating the requests.
    Have a good day!

    Just some friendly advice but I would open a new topic because the initial topic is going on four years old and some of that information may have been outdated. If you do not find the help you need then consider perhaps posting it on the jobs board.

    I submitted a plugin today to the repository that will do that. It has dashboard settings to exclude pages from protection but it is optional. So stay tuned!

    Sorry again for your frustration but maybe you should hire a developer that understands WP and BP. It may costs you some bucks but it will save you a ton of frustration.

    Sorry for your frustration. Sometimes you have to trace back your footsteps. The toolbar would not have just stop working out of the blue. You had to make some change that altered the behavior either by changing themes, adding plugins, or adding custom code. If you can think back to what you did before noticing that it was disappearing then you will find what caused the issue. Also just for future reference once your installation is set up how you like then always make a copy of your site and the database so if you decide to make more changes and things go awry then you have something to fallback on.

    Add the below code to your themes functions.php
    show_admin_bar(true);

    Try adding the below code to bp-custom.php if a logged out visitor tries to go to the activity page then they are redirected to login. For more info on bp-custom.php please see:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/customizing/bp-custom-php/

    /* Prevent logged out users from accessing bp activity page */
    function nonreg_visitor_redirect() {
    global $bp;
      if ( bp_is_activity_component() ) {
        if(!is_user_logged_in()) { //just a visitor and not logged in
            wp_redirect( get_option('siteurl') . '/wp-login.php' );
        }
      }
    }
    add_filter('get_header','nonreg_visitor_redirect',1);

    In your browsers address bar at the end of your sites name add /wp-login.php

    If your logged in then that is default behavior to go to the home page. Try logging out and go to the login page.

    It is hidden until a user clicks in the whats new text field then it should display. If not then you have a java-script issue with your theme. Please give more info regarding your install so we can assist you further.

    The link to my solution above is an alternative so it would not be in that plugin. If you had followed the link and read the instructions you would have have known it goes in bp-custom.php and has nothing to do with that plugin.

    Try this trick:
    BuddyPress Redirect To Profile Trick Using A Landing Page.
    To modify it to redirect to activity just change this line:
    bp_core_redirect( get_option('home') . '/members/' . bp_core_get_username( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) . '/profile' );
    To this if you want personal activity:
    bp_core_redirect( get_option('home') . '/members/' . bp_core_get_username( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) . '/activity' );
    Or to this if you want sitewide activity:
    bp_core_redirect( get_option('home') . '/activity');

    You just need a BuddyPress child theme. It would be awkward to have your main theme and then another one for bbpress especially since theme compatability came out. But there are themes for bbpress. I just believe in consistency or users may think they got redirected to a whole different site. You want every page to be identifiable to your brand or else people will get confused. At least that is my opinion. Imagine a theme based on Space, then one based on animals all on the same site. It would drive people nuts trying to figure out what happened! LOL!

    @monika
    As a temporary fix you could make a copy of “members-header.php” in your child theme and rename it to “original-members-header.php” then in the one named “members-header.php” you can delete lines 35-43 like in the below code and save it. If it causes issues just delete the members-header.php you modified and rename the one you copied “original-members-header.php” back to “members-header.php”

    <?php if ( bp_is_active( 'activity' ) ) : ?>

    	<div id="latest-update">

    		<?php bp_activity_latest_update( bp_displayed_user_id() ); ?>

    	</div>

    <?php endif; ?>
