if someone could offer advice i would appreciate it.
You asked for advice and I gave it to you.
That was about the most useless response anyone could have provided.
Given your demeanor don’t expect anyone to spoon feed what you did wrong when you supplied little information to begin with and when someone offers friendly advice you make a rude comment. Search the forums for similar issues and study the codex.
In reply to: redirect to profile page?It works for me. I tested it myself. Maybe you have some function in your theme, or plugins that is interfering with it. Have you tried basic troubleshooting by deactivating all plugins other than BP and activating twenty twelve theme or bp-default theme?

I was just informing you of the release of the plugin which works perfectly in my test environment. If you can get your code working and integrated into the core great, if not there is a viable option already. In reply to: Remove profile links@modemlooper
Reason I asked is because bp_init and init both work fine with the plugin I made on my test environment. I did update the plugin I made to remove profile auto links on github with init for compatibility sake. BTW bp-include has been in the plugin since conception in the loader.php. If someone knows better then feel free to chime in. Maybe someone will find it a useful nugget. If anyone wants to use it, download the zip file from here, upload, and activate:

To redirect to profile add the following code courtesy of @sbrajesh at BuddyDev to your bp-custom.php :/*Make sure profile is default component*/ define('BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT','profile'); /*let us filter where to redirect */ add_filter("login_redirect","bpdev_redirect_to_profile",10,3); function bpdev_redirect_to_profile($redirect_to_calculated,$redirect_url_specified,$user) { if(empty($redirect_to_calculated)) $redirect_to_calculated=admin_url(); /*if the user is not site admin, redirect to his/her profile*/ if(!is_site_admin($user->user_login)) return bp_core_get_user_domain($user->ID ); else return $redirect_to_calculated; /*if site admin or not logged in,do not do anything much*/ }For logout use the following code also courtesy of @sbrajesh to redirect back to your home url:
add_filter('logout_url',"bpdev_logout_url",100,2); function bpdev_logout_url( $logout_url, $redirect) { //simply ignore the redirect and set it to the main domain //let us check for buddyopress,if yes,let us get the bp root domain right ? if(function_exists("bp_core_get_root_domain")) $redirect=bp_core_get_root_domain(); else $redirect = get_blog_option( SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE, 'siteurl' ); $args = array( 'action' => 'logout' ); if ( !empty($redirect) ) { $args['redirect_to'] = $redirect; } $logout_url = add_query_arg($args, site_url('wp-login.php', 'login')); $logout_url = wp_nonce_url( $logout_url, 'log-out' ); return $logout_url; }In reply to: Add Custom Setting to Buddypress Settings@patricksaad
There is now a premium plugin for activity stream throttling from BuddyDev:In reply to: How to deal with registration@ldjautobody
You can use the procedures from this tutorial:
http://wpmu.org/how-to-build-a-facebook-style-members-only-wordpress-buddypress-site/
You could have a different logged out menu in which you could include the register link.In reply to: [Resolved] buddypress and localhost@dmd54
If your a beginner you should have just used the register page and changed the name tile to “Sign Up” and changed the slug of that same page to “sign-up.” Learn a bit more and get versed in the codex before you start customizing and changing things so much since you are a beginner. Basically you need to learn to crawl before you walk. Don’t jump into the deep end until you have some basic strokes! After all your on localhost so that is where you perfect things before putting it on a live server so study the codex, and have fun!@dice2dice
Where is the link for the spam prevention page showing up on the home page? Is it in the menu, sidebar, etc.?In reply to: video plugin wp 3.5.1@jimahrens

Has this changed since 1.5 because the codex:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/customizing/bp-custom-php/
Uses bp_init in the examples?@dice2dice
Do you know how to go to dashboard/pages/all pages/register? At the top of that page the title says Register just change that to Sign Up. At the top right corner of that same page click screen options and click the box beside of Slug. Now scroll down below the page body and you will see a text field labelled Slug. Change that from register to sign-up and click the blue Update button. Done!Spam Killer is not in the WP Repo you need to download it from the github link I provided then go to dashboard/plugins/add new, and where it says Install Plugins you will see upload below that. Select upload and browse to where you saved the Spam Killer plugin on your hard drive. Click Install Now then activate it. There is no settings just activate it and forget it. If you search the HTML source after you activate the plugin you will see the hidden field the plugin created just like below:
<div style="display: none;"><input type="text" name="are_you_a_spammer" id="rejected" /></div>Private Community For BP basically makes all BP related pages private and redirects the user to the page you want. Read the instructions in the readme.txt You will have to follow the same procedure listed for Spam Killer for getting, installing, and activating the plugin.
I have tried to make these instructions as clear as possible. Make sure to read the readme.txt in the plugins because the instructions are for fairly novice users. Let me know if you need more assistance.
In reply to: Idea: Stopping Spammers with Sandbox@synaptic
BuddyPress Registration Options is similar to this idea but it only allows a user to fill out their profile and upload an avatar until the admin approves their account. It doesn’t allow posting to the activity stream however. IMHO if a user doesn’t take the time to fill out their profile then it is a good indicator that they are a spammer but I can see the value in your idea and would I would like to see this functionality in a plugin.

Thanks to the hard work of @sbrajesh at BuddyDev we now have a solution get it here:@dice2dice
You can change the register page name and slug to sign-up.
You can also try using Private Community For BP:
You will also need to change line 27 in private-community-for-bp.php from /register to /sign-up to reflect the change of the register slug.
If your not using it you can get it here:
https://github.com/bphelp/private_community_for_bp
Another thing you can try is this small plugin “Spam Killer” which creates a hidden field humans can’t see, spam-bots will see it and fill it out and get a message indicating spammy behavior and it rejects their registration. Get it here:
https://github.com/bphelp/bp-spam-killer
Please read the readme.txt for complete instructions for usage for both plugins. In reply to: Remove profile links@jimmmy
I made a small plugin that should remove those links:
https://github.com/bphelp/bp-remove-profile-links
Feel free to try it out and let me know if it works for you!In reply to: Add Custom Setting to Buddypress Settings@patricksaad
It would be a good plugin, from what I can see your method involves throttling for the activity stream correct? Not really projected towards friend request correct? I personally would like to see this feature towards both so hopefully it will come to fruition. Maybe you can create two plugins off this idea?In reply to: redirect to profile page? You can try this in bp-custom.php or your themes functions.php:
function bphelp_redirect_to_profile_on_login() { global $bp; if(!is_user_logged_in()) { wp_redirect( get_option('siteurl') . '/profile' ); } } add_filter('get_header','bphelp_redirect_to_profile_on_login',1);Let me know if it works for you!
If you dont want to try this then use the plugin:
https://github.com/bphelp/private_community_for_bp
And change line 27 accordingly in private-community-for-bp.php to the page you want folks redirected too upon login before you activate the plugin. In reply to: Best way to limit friend requests to avoid spam@sbrajesh
Your welcome sir!
I look forward to this new plugin you will release I think you are really closing a gap that needed to be closed. By the way BP User Profile Visibility plugin rocks. Thanks once again for the awesome plugins and all the hard work you put forth, I respect you immensely! In reply to: redirect to profile page?@famous
Redirect from what? It would help if you explained the criteria. Do you want logged in users redirected to their profile?@caming
If your using BuddyPress then it should login users to use forums as well. I think you may want to post this issue on the bbpress forums as well.In reply to: Best way to limit friend requests to avoid spamThere is a new premium plugin out by BuddyDev called BuddyPress Limit Frienship check it out here:
This should help you folks out @tim_marston @ubernaut @sooskriszta . Another great job @sbrajesh !In reply to: Best setup for this kind of site@biggerplay
Correct pre BP 1.7 it came bundled, and as of 1.7+ bbpress is separate. Yes you can have group forums, site-wide forums, or both. See the link @synaptic provided. In reply to: Best setup for this kind of site@biggerplay
Doesn’t matter if you read 100 articles or 1000 articles if the information is outdated. I would take @modemlooper ‘s and @synaptic ‘s advice. Most likely things have changed a lot since the articles you read. It pays to stay on top of things with BP and the best way to do that is reading as much info in the blog, documentation/codex section, and support forums of this very site.
