Just make a child theme it is really simple:
https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
If you make changes directly to your theme it will get overwritten upon updating.In reply to: New Private Community Plugin For BPI updated this so if your using an older version download, upload, and activate it. It fixes a bug but I don’t feel my skills or the plugin is polished enough yet to submit it to the WP Repo. Still works decent though.
https://github.com/bphelp/private_community_for_bpIn reply to: New Private Community Plugin For BP@halfdan87 I think your issue would be better suited by starting a new thread. I am fairly new at this myself and being that your issue seems to be more of a custom theme issue than to do with the plugin then it isn’t appropriate for this thread. In general I just think you would get more help by opening your own thread to see if more experienced folk can help sort your issue.
In reply to: Buddypress 1.7 style problem or something missing?Try adding this to your themes functions.php
http://pastebin.com/idRVTkAKMaybe you can get something out of this tutorial:
http://wpmu.org/how-to-create-a-custom-buddypress-members-directory/@hnla Okay I added this and it places the count under the title. Now all I need to do is:
1.) Add name of person sending friend request and messages beside the count as well as the greeting.
Example: You have 1 friend request from USER1, You have 2 messages from USER22.) Add avatar of person sending the friend request or message to to left in the drop-down notification.
If you or anyone else can help on that it will be great.
For anyone who would like to use this I packaged it as a plugin here:
https://github.com/bphelp/custom_toolbar
If you would like to help with the code I can add you as a contributor. Thanks everyone!I really could use some help on this so if you can please help! Thanks folks!
If anyone else out there can offer advice in how to do this it will be appreciated! Thanks everyone! 🙂
Grab it an do what? You haven’t explained what you wanna do after it is fetched.
You can try:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-block-activity-stream-types/In reply to: New Private Community Plugin For BP@halfdan87 Sounds like you may have introduced some white-space when you copied the code. Make sure there is no white-space lines before or after the opening and closing PHP tags.
@hnla Here is the link to it on github:

Thanks in advanced for any help or time you may be able to spare.Anyone who can help please? Thank you!
Just for clarification I decided to keep the toolbar and attempt to add the split up notifications to it. I just need help with display of the individual notifications in the drop-down menu.
Anyone who can help? Thanks!
I still would appreciate some help on this! Thanks everyone! 🙂
In reply to: HTML Showing on Profile Page@praisehim Sorry to butt in but the simplest answer is to just not use that theme and use the default buddypress theme. The moderators here are well versed in the default theme and some other ones. Anytime you use themes or plugins that are not included with BP then you have to rely on that theme or plugins author for support. Don’t get me wrong their will be people that will try to help but it seems to go a lot smoother when they know the theme and these moderators know their stuff on here really well. Their good people!
Is there anyone else that would not mind helping me out on this? Thank you everyone! 🙂
In reply to: Create private membership site with BuddyPress@skibler Line 24 in private-community-for-bp.php shows all that gets blocked. I can’t replicate your issue in explorer, firefox, chrome, and safari. Do you have other plugins installed? What theme are you using?

In reply to: Create private membership site with BuddyPress@ skibler I can’t replicate the issue. Try deleting the code used above and downloading the plugin zip here:
https://github.com/bphelp/private_community_for_bp
install like a plugin. Then change the line 27 in private-community-for-bp.php to where you wanna redirect too.@chouf1 No need in being nasty about it. I just thought you didn’t mind helping me since you had helped me before. I’m sorry! Anyway thanks for the other help you given it is appreciated.
🙂Hi @chouf1, just wondering if you could help me a little more with the above code. I don’t mean to bump this but with people not getting there @mentions notifications here I am afraid it will be overlooked. Thank you kindly!
In reply to: custom template for membersThis tutorial is decent but if your using different versions of WP, BP, and a different theme then expect to have to make some adjustments. It is a good starting point though!
http://wpmu.org/how-to-create-a-custom-buddypress-members-directory/In reply to: [Resolved] How to add images to a custom toolbar?@hnla since the topic name is “How to add images to a custom toolbar” then if you could kindly mark this as resolved. Thanks again for your help!
@chouf1 with your help and hnla’s I have this working but even with the above examples in how to get the counts in a drop down I am not certain how to do this. Where do I place:
echo bp_friend_get_total_requests_count( $user_id );
echo bp_get_total_unread_messages_count($name );
echo count($notifications);
In the code because it either fires off an error or it actually echo’s the code. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again for all your help! 🙂
