If you put the mo file into bp-languages folder, it will be erased at the next BP update. This folder only exist to provide the release pot file needed to update your existing buddypress- xx_XX.mo after an update.
So, there is no need to add something into /plugins/bp-custom.php. Aside, this file will only exist if you create it, it’s not shipped with BP (MS nor single WP)
Bp language file goes to /wp-content/languages/buddypress-xx_XX.mo
xx_XX is the wp_lang setting you have in wp-config.php of your main site.

But a private message explaining me your decision would have been appreciated, but it isn’t the case.Also, who is responsible of the Codex ? Didn’t know that Ryan is the codex chief editor !

The tips & tricks page is still nested with 1 tuto page, despite the tech explanation above.And with this on the customize page, i’m very doubtfull too

I thought I was right by adding my tips, even if not on the same page as “Tips – Tricks – Code Snippets” by misunderstanding the existing nesting which is not to use finally ! Sorry for my ignorance of this detail.
Support users are not code snippets, but real humans. Your method and reaction are simply unbelievable !
Be sure i’m discouraged and that i don’t add anything to the codex in the 100 next years. 🙁Dan

If you’re super-admin you can adjust any profile of any of your user, so far i know.

But if it’s not that important, can i suggest to remove the whole tips, tricks and code snippet page from the Codex ?
Even if i’m sure most of the user prefer to go to the Codex first, because it’s the naturally “my issue answer place to be” !Or create a dedicated, moderated and well categorized blog for such stuff, because at least it’s annoying to get the same daily issues querying answers on the support forum.
Issues, as you know, are rarely accompanied with the user’s configuration information. So it’s anyway difficult to help in such case. With or without official, uptodated informations, tips or whatever.

I just tried with a profile avatar. The background goes black on the image to crop and is transparent on the preview image. As soon as saved, it goes black and to jpg !

on what type of host are you ? Shared, VPS ? How many memory_limit do you have on your server ?
On cheap host, using WP+BP is already to much. If you add 1 or 2 plugins and a cache plugin, it comes to quickly to disaster….But also you can’t ask for help if you don’t play with the common rules. You are using latest WP & BP and a outdated plugin. Don’t be surprised that it doesn’t work ! Or very wobbly…
Private BuddyPress
Requires: 3.0, BuddyPress 1.2 or higher
Compatible up to: 3.1, BuddyPress 1.3Deactivate it and you will certainly see a difference.
You also use WP Super Cache. Don’t forget to clear the cache and to deactivate this plugin while testing BP.I got this site after my predecessor, so I wasn’t involved in the decision process.

Latest stable BP is version 1.6.3 and yes combining slightly different things is not the best practice.
Recommandation is to use it on WP 3.5

Passwword management is done by WPAnyway, you need to fix WP registering first on twenty10, than together with BP on the bp-default theme

Or you can make it private or hidden.You can also when on site admin go to settings > buddypress > settings tab and uncheck Enable group creation for all users.
This allows to keep group creation open. Now, if a user want a group, he had to ask you to do that for him, so you will have better control what people do on your site.
