@kipprsnak1 Can you give us a link to the plugin. Sounds like an interesting plugin, but if we can see it we can better understand what you’re trying to do I think. Seems like there should be a better way.
In reply to: Members only@Shnooka30 You really should use s2member. There’s quite a bit to it, but it’s all very well documented and it sounds like it will do exactly what you want it to do.
Just make a child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ The file you’ll want to edit in your child theme is in the default theme folder under registration/register.php
You may also want to look at this thread which will redirect people to the register page if they go to one of your other pages directly: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/miscellaneous/forum/topic/splash-start/
In reply to: I would like to disable Email activationM,
Yes, I thought of that. I installed the beta copy of WP 3.0 today and found that the users are still stored in the same places for a WP/BP install or a WPMU/BP install as they are separate. So, unless they’ve changed the core user signup calls, then we should be good, but I’ll be sure to test it.It’s just too bad that there’s not some BP functions that I could just call like bp_core_creat_user(some variables) and bp_core_activate_user(some variables) so we didn’t have to dig in to figure out the functions that BP is already calling at registration. Maybe there is and I just don’t know it?
In reply to: I would like to disable Email activationI’ve started looking into bypassing the activation email. It seems like the code @ wrote above only works for regular WP installs and not WPMU. WPMU uses the wp_signups table and then when they’re activated they’re moved to wp_users. I’m going to see if I can’t figure out the WPMU code to do this. I’d love to hear if people know more about this. Otherwise, I’ll ask in the WPMU forums.
Also, it seems like you could just use this function to disable the activation email from happening (once again that doesn’t work in WPMU though):
function disable_activation_email() {
return false;
}
add_filter( ‘bp_core_signup_send_activation_key’, ‘disable_activation_email’ );In reply to: Email Activation not being sent in upgraded BP 1.2.2You might also look at the solutions listed: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/email-notification-not-working/?topic_page=2&num=15
In reply to: Looking for good photo gallery“Brajesh is NOT selling his plugins, themes or brilliant coding help for a limited time, he’s simply offering premium download privileges and support to paid members of his website.”
If he’s not selling his plugins, then where can we download the plugins without having to pay? Is it somewhere on the repository? I can’t find it anywhere, but the paid site.
If it was as you describe and available to everyone and the site was just a premium download service with Brajesh’s premium support, then I think he’d get a whole group of people helping to support and test his plugin. Until then, many people will be reticent to support it imho.
Seems like Brajesh is focused on the short term gain versus the long term potential that releasing his plugin as open source could provide him.
In reply to: Groups Button TextShouldn’t you be able to just change these buttons text using a language file? It’s not a good idea to modify the core files since they’ll get overwritten when you upgrade.
In reply to: Blank pages after upgrading to 1.2.3Kailas,
You can change the main page under Settings–>Reading Then choose “static page” and select the page from the drop down that you want to be the home page. You might need to create a page you want to be the home page first.If you don’t want a home page, then you’ll need to create your own theme. This page will get you started: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ but will require some knowledge of coding.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionI’m really glad this is in the GSoC projects. I hope that group albums is near the top of the development list.
In reply to: Extending Groups NavigationDang, I’m not sure how I missed this. There are 2 functions that are available in the group API that handle the display and editing of the screen that’s added to the admin function.
function edit_screen() {
}
function edit_screen_save( ) {
}In reply to: Following vs. FriendingSoon™
lol…That’s a valuable trademark right there.
In reply to: HelpToni,
You won’t be able to offer your users blogs until BP 3.0 is released. Or you’d have to change your standard WP install to a WPMU install, but it will be much easier to just wait for BP 3.0. Once BP 3.0 comes out there will be an option where you can change a standard WP install into a Multi Blog one where your users can start blogging.In reply to: How To Aid Documentation ProjectIt’s at the very bottom left and is available as you scroll. You don’t see that?
In reply to: Looking for good photo gallerySymm,
Do either of those plugins support Group galleries?In reply to: Adsense on BuddyPress PagesYou probably should ask the plugin developer. They’ll need to make the plugin BuddyPress aware for it to appear on those pages and then it will work the way you want.
In reply to: Activity confusing group members?Go to your BuddyPress settings and set “Disable activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts?” to yes. That way they can comment on the activity stream, but not for forum posts where you want them to click through to the forum post and comment there.
Probably long term it would be cool to have the Reply button on forum/blog posts just go to the forum/blog post comment area. I know this bifurcation of commenting has been discussed a number of times.
You should use bp_core_redirect() instead of wp_redirect().
In reply to: Spamxspringe,
There is someone doing a Google Summer of Code project which is working on a plugin for BP that will report objectionable content. I expect spam will be part of the objectionable content that can/will be reported with that plugin. You can support his efforts: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-moderation/In reply to: Extending Groups NavigationIt looks like the Group API does automatically add the link on the Nav under the Group–>Admin page if you set this value:
var $enable_edit_item = true;
If I set it to false, then the link in the admin for the group doesn’t appear. So, the question is once I set that to true. How do I tell the Group API which function it should use to handle the display for that item?
Oh the irony.
In reply to: How do I make a new page the home page on BPGo to Settings->Reading and then you can switch from your latest posts to a static page. Lots of options with that. I’m not sure why you’d want to rename home as blogs. Not sure what you mean there, but it’s possible by changing the slug I think.
In reply to: Extending Groups NavigationI do have a display function, but it’s inside the Group API class that I extended. Is that a problem? Can I call that function inside of the Group API extension? Or do I just need to create a new function that replicates what’s already being done in the group API extension? Although, that doesn’t seem like it should be necessary since it performs the same function as what’s being done when the group is created essentially.
I’ll see if it’s BP-aware, but I think I did that. Is that why it could be throwing the error “Call to undefined function bp_core_add_subnav_item()”?
In reply to: Extending Groups NavigationI checked that out r-a-y. It looks like the bp_core_add_subnav_item is where I attach a screen function. However, it seems like the Group API might be doing this on its own already? Otherwise why would the nav appear there in the first place? Seems like when I do “class BP_Org_Info extends BP_Group_Extension {}” there’s something built in to add the nav and attach the screen function, but I can’t see where and how to change it so it links properly.
I did try like the skeleton component suggested and did the following which didn’t work for me. Maybe this is the way I have attach the screen function and I’m just calling it wrong? Here’s my code
function org_info_add_subnav() {
global $bp;
bp_core_add_subnav_item( array(
‘name’ => __(‘Organization Info’, ‘buddypress’),
‘slug’ => $bp->org_info->slug,
‘parent_slug’ => BP_GROUPS_SLUG,
‘parent_url’ => $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->group->slug . ‘/’,
‘position’ => 30,
‘screen_function’ => ‘display’ //Should this be a call to some part of the Group API?
));
}
add_action( ‘wp’, ‘org_info_add_subnav’, 2 );Maybe one of the options I’m passing into bp_core_add_subnav_item is wrong, but I also just noticed that I’m getting this in the error logs:
PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_core_add_subnav_item()Do I have to include some other file to use bp_core_add_subnav_item()
In reply to: Email Activation not being sent in upgraded BP 1.2.2You might want to join this group for part of what you’ve requested (the admin resend of activation emails/activating manually): https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/over-1000-not-activated-users-what-do-you-suggest-we-do-with-them/
Seems like he could add the redirect to the plugin as well. I don’t think it would be too hard.
