    By default bbpress forums are integrated into the groups. So, a new forum is created for each group. If you want the bbpress install to be separate, do a search for separate bbpress install and you’ll see lots of instructions on how to have a bbpress forum separate from a group.

    Wow. 30 minutes with no reply and you’re already bumping the thread?

    wp_create_user ($username, $password, $email) is the right direction. Take a look at the wp-fb-autoconnect to see the calls to create new users. Then, do a search for having the BP top bar appear on external sites. I’m not 100% sure, but it seems like the same way you can get the BP bar to appear on other pages you could tie into other WP functions like the wp_create_user () function. Basically requires you to include/require some WordPress files on your external page that’s making the calls. I can’t remember which.

    Try this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/email-notification-not-working/ It offers a couple solutions (especially on the second page).

    Of course, now the problem is figuring out how the license will let you distribute the changes you made. Unless you did a nice job separating the BP mods for Thesis. No doubt Thesis would be a nice theme to offer for BP.

    You don’t want to just activate random accounts. You might be activating a bunch of spam accounts for emails that don’t exist.

    Seems like these are the functions you’d need:
    -Resend activation email (possibly customize the email to admin’s desires)
    -Manual activation for individual users (for those that contact you directly about activation)
    -Clear users that haven’t activated (filtered by date)

    Good information. Looks like there’s a number of classes available. Like I just saw a BP_Friends_Friendship () one that could be used for friends. Is there any reason not to use these classes?

    This problem is so host specific it’s hard to say. However, if you’re on bluehost, a few solutions have been posted in this thread (read both pages): https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/email-notification-not-working/?topic_page=1&num=15

    How about people’s names missing (like the comment 2 above this). I’m guessing they are users that have been around a while before you were required to add some profile field?

    I forgot, you could just change the filter login_redirect(). Although, you can’t do the same processing with that one as you can with the one I show above.

    Have you tried dumping the $bp variable to see that $bp->loggedin_user->domain is available at that point in time?

    You can also do the following to see if the URL that you’re storing in $user_domain is being created correctly:
    echo ‘URL for Redirect: ‘ . $user_domain;
    die;

    Run the script and this will display that variable and then stop anything else from running so you can see that variable.

    Thanks for the information and explanation. Little by little I’m figuring out all the various options for customizing and extending BP. The great part is that there are lots of options.

    Do you know of any existing plugins that use the Groups API really well that I could look at for an example?

    You can even pass in variables like the userid. A simple if then statement will accomplish the various redirects. That’s what I’ve done also.

    There’s a few plugins that do this if you search for redirect login (or something like that).

    Otherwise, you could do your own with some code like this:
    function bp_redirect_to_page()
    {
    $redirect_url_cc = ‘URL to redirect to’;
    bp_core_redirect($redirect_url_cc);

    }
    /*Add an action to redirect user after login*/
    add_action(“wp_login”,”bp_redirect_to_page”,100,0);

    You can add a lot more functionality to that too. I’m also playing with this redirect at registration. Very nice little function.

    Thanks Paul. That works perfect.

    Lots of good information there. Is there a place where it lists all of those objects that can be called like this? I found this function page: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/functions/ but BP_Groups_Group() wasn’t on that and doesn’t specify any variables that can be passed in.

    I haven’t been able to test this completely, but it seems like the automatic group adding isn’t working if the group isn’t set to a public group. If it’s set to private then it seems like it tries to make the request maybe, but isn’t finishing the process of adding the person to the group. I’ll look into this more as I have time unless you get a chance to look first.

    r-a-y,
    WP 3.0 will have all the same sitewide features as MU. That is if in WP 3.0 you click the option to allow multiple blogs on the same install. However if you don’t turn that on, then WP 3.0 will act like a single install of WP. I think that’s what Andrea_r meant.

    If you’re on WPMU and want to move to the standard WP, you should wait for WP 3.0 to make that transition. With the merging of the code bases, it should be easier.

    “I think the redesign is O.K., but the most noticeable issue is the light blue text on the white background. It is REALLY hard to read. Definitely not something I would do on my own sites.”

    In Firefox (and I think other browsers) you can override the stylesheet using an add-on to make it the color you like.

    Try downloading it. If you find a way, then report it as a bug. Although, I’m sure you’ll see nothing.

    One other idea. In the link to sign up, why not include the group number (or list of numbers) so that the registration theme page could be customized with a special welcome based on the group that invited them without having to do an extra query to the database to see which group they’ve been invited to join.

    Something like: http://domain.com/register/accept-invitation/test2%40test.com/groupid=12

    Sorry Boone. Yep, it has leading slashes. Seems like end of line/carriage return stuff.

    I also had some other ideas:
    -Send again button (a bit controversial maybe)
    -Link the email address so they could send their own personal email with a link to subscribe (just a simple mailto link with the subject and message defined)
    -I tried the disabling the access to send invites to existing users, but then there’s no way to access the send by email. Not sure how hard it is to make invite by email available but not the other part of the invite functionality (ie. my users will mostly invite non-users by email so it should be default instead of inviting existing users)
    -HTML emails Not sure if this would be better as a hook or something else. I tried adding some HTML into the message body and it stripped out the HTML. Would be nice to be able to send some HTML in the email. The challenge of course is displaying that HTML to the end user.

    Sadly. I wasn’t quite able to swing all the details for this trip. Let’s hope they have an online stream of the event like many other WordCamps.

    What about a BPCamp? Is there enough people yet? Or I could convince the people at WordCamp LV to have BP one at the same time probably.

    You should be able to edit the wp-config.php file with the new password. That file should be in the public_html folder.

    You might also need to change the password in bb-config.php in the same place if you use the forums. I think it probably stores the password there too.

    I had this same problem on one of my Bluehost domains. However, I was a little disturbed because I had 2 other Bluehost domains with BP that worked perfectly fine. In fact, one WPMU and one WP install as well. However, the emails wouldn’t deliver. I almost used the mail from plugin, but decided to redirect the MX record for my “broken” domain first.

    So, I redirected the MX (mail record) from Bluehost’s crappy email service to Google Apps free (and fantastic) email service. Once I finished redirecting the MX record from Bluehost to Google Apps I tried the registration again on BP and the email went through with no problems.

    Just thought I’d offer another solution for those on Bluehost.

    Now I’m interested to see if the single WP install with BP will be a resource hog or if it’s just the WPMU that was/is the resource hog on a shared host like Bluehost.

    The default message text includes “nrnr” which likely won’t appear in the email, but shouldn’t appear in the text box either. This was on a fresh install of BP and IA.

    “Works fine for me in Chrome. Might be browser caching.”

    Cleared the cache and it’s good in Google Chrome now. Interesting that it did that. My bad.
