thanks for your complete explanation. but there is not such a file members/single/settings/general.php in my socialchef theme.
and yes, i do have a buddypress folder in my socialchef theme.
so i created the path. and copied the general.php from buddypress plugin files to the destination folder.
and did the changes as i want.

The theme itself wasn’t so much custom as just tweaked for purpose, it is a child theme of the Reverie theme (http://themefortress.com/reverie/) which is a foundation and WordPress framework. @ldesherl You do not need to install BuddyPress in order to get a forum. You only need to install bbPress forums plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress/ which works perfectly without BuddyPress.

Actually if you check the box beside membership in dashboard/settings before activating bp it will create those pages automatically. However once you activate bp even once without the box beside membership checked then you will need create those pages manually.
